for whatever reason charli ai doesn't seem to know how to pronounce "ends" so i have no idea what to do actually 🤷‍♀️
i think imma give the ai raw vocals and then add autotune instead of giving it autotuned vocals like in the snippet it might sound better idk
inst. cred goes to @LMAlejandro ofc

Oh this is sooo true. I probably can sometimes even suffer from it. I be thought about this, though I’ve never really called it anything. I’ve thought, listening to some of her low quality songs, that if this was released people wouldn’t be so obsessed.

Why is so strange for you to understand that some people prefer the demos for various reasons( better lyrics , better production ) and you have to call it a bias?
EDIT after reading many posts : Yes there is clearly an unreleased syndrome because most people are always thinking of what if and what they could get but that does not change the fact that the majority of the leaked demos are superior to released songs  (at least for me ):
    Summer Time
    Pink Champaign
    I Talk To Jesus
    Sad Girl Demo
    Architecture
    Lust For Life
    Madly
    If I Die Young
    Valley Of The Dolls
    Lolita Demo
    Nation Anthem Demo
And the list goes on .
The songs I have mentioned here, I prefer them over other released songs because of many reasons . It's not always about shoes , trust me  .

I feel like you are using the false equivalence fallacy to make this argument, especially with the shoes. The shoe prank definitely has some arguments of bias since there’s name brand and we live in a largely capitalist world. However, applying this to unreleased v released music it loses its meaning because there’s no name brand per se, especially with deeper Lana fans. This implies that lipsters see the unreleased music as better and more exclusive which I don’t think is a bias in the traditional sense, it’s more conditioning and human nature. And I don’t even think it’s true overall. Also I don’t get the Soviet nostalgia mention because sooo much of USSR discussion is rooted in anti communist propaganda which is obviously biased? Ofc many Russians are going to be nostalgic for the USSR when compared the more extreme social injustice that Russians face today. It’s also not like every Soviet wanted the fall of the USSR so. But anyways

I feel like if anything you could make the argument that individuals prefer unreleased music because of the exclusiveness of it- the average fan doesn’t have access to it unless they know. But I would argue that this is another side effect of capitalism.

also I was a psych major. Not that it means anything at all lol a degree is a piece of paper

What a strange response. But now that I think about it, Kim kind of is in a Boom Clap situation. She does have to play her cards right to continue this ride of fame. But the way Charli types is like a gossip blogger responding.

This is essentially what I have been trying to say. It's puzzling why some fans are having a hard time resonating with this. Thanks for this post syrup armor. I am going to send you a "follow".

Again, this isn't a thread about how fans prefer her unreleased music or listen to it. It is about my personal theory and ideas as to how biases and impression may form this tendency. Also another user syrup armor and other users have expressed that they agree with me, and they don't dislike people who listen to unreleased music.

I enjoy her unreleased music. I prefer Melancholia to Ultraviolence myself.

  13. TRENCH liked a post in a topic by Strangelove in Fans suffering from "Unreleased Syndrome"
I didn't know what to name the thread but recently online on YouTube and IG I have noticed what I call 'Unreleased Syndrome'. It is similar to the placebo effect or other behaviors that examine people reacting to false information.

My first example would be Architecture. When it leaked the reception from fans online was very positive and had people looking forward to the album. Now that it is released in its final format, fans say they like the unreleased version better.

Another example is the Venice Bitch demo she released. I have noticed the same attitude toward the demo version being better than final. A lot of times I read on YouTube and here "this should've replaced the released version." When Black Beauty was released I remember many fans expressing their disappointment with the released version.

So now at this point, I think a lot of the sentiment toward unreleased music being "better" is because of what I'm calling Unreleased Syndrome. Essentially because fans see that a song is unreleased, they become under the impression any variant of the song afterward is inferior. In reality the released version is better or would've been actually more liked among fans if she kept it unreleased in favor of the released version.

A contemporary example is this prank. Basically the prank had low quality shoes masked as high end, designer shoes. Because people assigned a certain quality to the items they can be heard calling the shoes "high quality" when in reality they were from Payless. Below is the video.

The funny thing about this experiment is that the opposite placements would have had the same effect. If people walked into a designer store masked as a off-brand store, they would probably not notice the higher quality of the designer garments. Similarly fans can dismiss (mistake) the high quality released music for lower quality music as they can hear the unreleased versions.

I would be interested for there to be some kind of study where 100 Lana fans listened to two versions of a song (unreleased then released) and picked which one they liked better versus 100 Lana non-fans. I honestly believe the non-fan group would choose the released versions each time, or it would be 50/50, because they are unbiased.

I think there are so many factors as to why this happens. I think the driving factor is the human instinct to go "What if...?" in many situations when it is unreasonable. I think there is something else called Impression Bias where people are less likely to identify a positive choice when surrounded by other negative choices. But maybe some users here can better explain some of the elements at play. This is not exclusive to Lana fans... I think it very common in a lot of media whether it be film, video games or other musicians.

Have you ever suffered from Unreleased Syndrome? What do you think on this phenomenon?

I would have to log on my computer later today and really expand into what I am trying to say because I think the shoes were not a digestible example. I think you are bringing up some great points that I would love to expand on but I would need to research a bit and have a computer keyboard to really type out what I want.

Disconnect shoe from this conversation and replace it with impression. The impression of the shoe being high quality is the same way fans get an impression of a song being unreleased.

Similarly, if the shoes are just presented normally, it would be Lana presenting her music normally as she would release it. There is a label attached to a song being "unreleased" the same way garments have a certain label whether figuratively or literally.
I am not judging anyone. Sorry if you are getting that vibe. This is just a discussion about how fans perceive her unreleased music... I respect everyone who likes her unreleased music and if they like it more than her unreleased. Some users here are offering their insight which is helping me understand.
  16. wilting daisy liked a post in a topic by Strangelove in Fans suffering from "Unreleased Syndrome"
I would argue the "branding" aspect is the song being released or unreleased. There is a certain label attached to the song similarly to the shoes that people are drawn to both literally and figuratively.

Again, a study done with non-fans who are completely unaware of which songs are unreleased or released would remove the bias fans have and paint a better picture of what I am talking about.

the only demo that’s better than the released is freak, all the other demo’s genuinely sound super empty rough drafts - lfl demo’s scrapped verses are really good but with that production it’s simply boring and i prefer the released.

i feel like that towards a lot of said demos that are “better” than the released songs, they just are not that good…

  19. wilting daisy liked a post in a topic by Strangelove in Fans suffering from "Unreleased Syndrome"
The placebo effect, the video and the Soviet nostalgia example are examples of how bias people are when it comes to quality. I gave the example of the controlled study so you can better understand me but I will expand, so maybe I get my point across better.

If you take 100 fans who are familiar with her unreleased music and play ten released and ten unreleased songs variants, it is likely demos will be chosen as their favorite versions versus the 100 non-fans, who will probably choose the finished songs or show no preference. These types of studies are used to determine if drugs are effective against placebo drugs (whoops, typo). You're not supposed to be aware of this bias so naturally as fans we can think 'I just like this more.'

Ultimately a study would need to happen to truly verify the Unreleased Syndrome. But I like to discuss it anyway. Anyone got a laboratory and a ton of money I can borrow?
Hi, I do not think it is a real issue. Sorry if I am coming off that way. By troubling I mean I wish to better understand it. Really I don't care if people like her unreleased more than her unreleased or whatever the case is.

I am very convinced if she released a song like Say Yes To Heaven or Your Girl, fan favorites, on Ultraviolence it would've replaced a track like Pretty When You Cry or Sad Girl. Then either those two unreleased songs would've been fan favorites. Imagine snippets of Pretty When You Cry leaking, fans would be begging for the full. The psychology is so weird, brains are fantastically incorrect so often.
Pink Champagne is troubling for me because I truly believe if it was the other way around fans would've been upset the Let Me Love You Like A Woman version wasn't released. Also that's a part I missed. The rawness of the songs has some appeal, but at the very same time I have seen more cooked songs that are different versions get more fan love than the raw versions. Honeymoon is what I am talking about.
  21. wilting daisy liked a post in a topic by Strangelove in Fans suffering from "Unreleased Syndrome"
Your comment is reflective of the bias people have I am talking about. Similar to a placebo or the fake luxury shoes, people are not aware of their impressions and preferences. In your example someone can take a sugar pill and say "The pill made my headache go away, there is nothing to it." But of course this is a psychological effect and not reality. That's also why I mentioned the controlled study. Human bias is very real and has scientific backing.
