I think given the ‘culture’ (if you will) at the time with cancel culture being at its peak and the blm movement dominating the US things definitely did get taken out of context by the media, but I do wish she would stop beating a dead horse by bringing this up again after everything that happened last time

I get why she does it, but I’m so sick of her constantly defending herself.

people are NEVER going to understand her/her art, and continuing to comment on these issues FOUR YEARS later is just not the move. I think the people who knew what she meant knew what she meant, and the people who didn’t never will, no matter how many follow up videos/posts/comments she makes.

one of the CRAZIEST things i've heard reddit "lipsters" say

"one for the money, two for the show" -Million Dollar Man
"one for the money, two for the show" - champagne problems

    it's literally a common expression

I love how she buys dresses from the mall and second-hand jackets but also flaunts $400k watches. Relatable queen as I would too if I had the money

different insight but I started attending churchome with my friends from my church during covid when things went online (I was not a big enough fan of Lana yet to know that she went there... I'm not a weirdo) and they were all lovely, kind, and supportive. I did not get a single weird vibe from anyone there and never heard anything discriminatory, strict, or brainwashy, and I attended for a year. I know it's hard to wrap your head around a megachurch but the  Churchome leadership is very different from Hillsong lol. They are super chill there, though Judah is definitely eccentric. Just wanted to share this anecdote because I know ppl r worried about/ weirded out by Lana going there

I like those pics but I kinda don’t need them to be for lasso because they really have no personality other than being classic Neil Krug photos so it would be nice if the booklet and shoot was a little more original than those

I went last night and it was SO special...
the crowd went INSANE when she came out with the Veil,
girls were crying and screaming !!!
and to "My My, Hey Hey" Neil young out of the blue into the black rock and roll is here to stay song.. it was SO iconic...
also from a crowd view, the backup singers were FANTASTIC they helped bring so much beauty to her performance
Camillo was cringe to me but the crowd seemed pleased, especially those that aren't LDR Stans.
The leather men carrying her off during Hope was SO SEXY AND HOT.. and then she came out in the leather "lasso" looking type dress and veil, we were gagged.
Her and Jon Batiste were MAGICAL AF. and her going to the stripper pole during Candy Necklace was ICONIC AFFFF the crowd was screaming so hard and it kinda low-key is like "yes she can go back to stripping and singing about how she wants or wanted to be loved without being criticized as feigning fragility or glamor" so as a die hard fan since 2014 it really is impressive how far she has come in confidence
As far as the without you lyrics, I didn't notice her leaving the "your love is deadly" out but she was overcome with nerves before, she stood for like a 30 seconds - minute meditating almost on stage
anyways, 10/10 might be her best performance ever

God so much more was happening than on the weekend 1, I teared up once or twice
The Hunter S. Thompson book, the Hope dance, the spoken interlude between Hope and AW about womanhood, THE VOCALS OVERALL, the My My Hey Hey intro...
What a moment in her artistry

Ok in get free she says “out of the black into the blue” like it’s a positive thing. Like she’s becoming happier. But during Coachella she literally goes from blue to black in outfit changes meaning a return to her darker mindset. The intro song (My My, Hey Hey-Neil Diamond) also says “out of the blue into the black” and talks about basically going hard instead of fizzling out. The hologram cage interlude talked about women being mothers or virgins and how those are the only acceptable choices in society. But then goes on to talk about sensuality and creativity and not being caged by just the two choices of virgin or mother. She’s mused a lot about motherhood especially in Ocean Blvd and I think this could all point to her giving up having kids and just focusing on her career, her art. Also the ending where she’s carried out felt like a funeral instead of the usual psych ward vibe, then she’s almost reborn into a new era that is just for her. Of course this could all just me being tired af and unhinged.

Someone else that’s better an analyzing this stuff chime in! Lol

The only thing is that sometimes (not often) I was confused as to whether it was her voice or the playback, like the voice was still there but her lips weren't moving. I think she shouldn't use her voice so much for the playback, unless it's just accompanying background elements.

I just finished Wide Sargasso Sea, a post colonial, post modernism feminist response to Jane Eyre. Loved it personally although I can see why it has mixed reactions.

I also recently read my first James Joyce, A Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man. There were moments of brilliant prose but overall it dragged too much for me. I'll try more Joyce though.

Before that, I read The Dispossessed by Ursula K Le Guin, a great exploration of anarchism, capitalism, etc in a science fiction setting.

I Who Have Never Known Men, a dystopian by Jacqueline Harpman, was also excellent. It will probably stay with me for a long time.

The Crying of Lot 49 was my first time reading Pynchon and I thoroughly enjoyed it. What a trip! I'll re-read it later for sure. It's also such fun seeing how many people are inspired by it, including Radiohead, one of my favourite bands! I am now seeing W.A.S.T.E everywhere.

Giovanni's Room was also my first James Baldwin, and I fell in love with his minimalist prose. What a great tragic story and so far ahead of its time. I will absolutely be reading more Baldwin.

I could go on and on but ...

I'm now reading The Word for World is Forest, a short story by Ursula Le Guin, and will then be moving onto The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea, my first Mishima, which I bought recently.

I'm reading Joan Didion for the first time, specifically Slouching Towards Bethlehem which I've almost finished.. her writing is truly exquisite, I keep pausing and wondering how one can even construct sentences like that. I really want to read The White Album and Play It As It Lays next.

And the subject matter of the essays in this collection (and as far as I understand Joan Didion's work in general) is sooo interesting as a Lana fan;  California, Los Angeles,  Hollywood, the state of "The American Dream"...

I was curious to see if Lana has ever mentioned Joan Didion and it seems like she hasn't but when I searched the forums I found an old post from @Trash Magic about this photoshoot of Joan Didion maybe having inspired the Ultraviolence cover and I can really see it tbh

People grow and change overtime, it’s a natural part of everyone’s evolution as they progress through life. You can’t expect everyone to stay the same forever without being altered by their experiences. I think this particular sentiment is about not changing the core of who you are, but little elements of people are bound to to change such as their interests, their priorities, etc.

For Lana, I feel like every 3 years there’s a new evolutionary “version” of her that shifts slightly from the previous and they continue to build. For example:
    2011-2013
    2014-2016
    2017-2019
    2020-2022
    2023-present
I feel that each of those sections have brought a new “version” of Lana, but she’s always been who she is at her core. Certain things about her will change, but who she is in her heart and soul will always stay the same. I also feel that this is very much reflected in her music, fashion, personality, etc.

I feel like I’m the same way and it seems like it’s also about every 3 years that there’s some sort of shift within my own self. This is an interesting thought though, I’m actually going to reach out to my friends about this and see if they relate too x

Saw the Mcdonalds cup and knew immediately the comment section would be like “so disappointing😔”. Jesus christ these people need to go outdoors so many lives were saved because you bitched at a celebrity for drinking a diet coke

I’m not religious but I used to kinda feel like you do. But the more I thought about it, the more the Satan concept aligned with my strong belief that there always exists a sort of balance in the world. Good and evil, light and dark. I would think that Satan would be as powerful as God, just in a different way. If I actually believed in these things I would be fully convinced that the societal trends are way off-balance and leaning into Satan, with pornography and fuck apps having a grasp on people, causing them to give into fleshly desires, abandoning their morals and darkening their souls. I don’t actually believe in those characters in a literal sense, though. But as a person who practices witchcraft and worships nature, I do think the ultra-Christian people have it all wrong about people like me. Witches aren’t the people you gotta worry about.
