Galilee, Israel @ Meteor Festival - Sep 7, 2018 (CANCELLED)

Recommended Posts

This is a letter that an Israeli politician sent to Lana (and also posted it on FB), I think some of you will find it interesting:

"Dear Lana Del Rey,

You’re sitting in New York after canceling your performance in Israel because of pressure from Roger Waters and other vocal BDS activists. It’s a shame, because you were lied to. You became another one in a series of people being used by Palestinian terrorist organizations without knowing the facts. Seeing as you’ve got some free time now maybe you should use it to learn about what’s really happening here in Israel. Here is a list of facts they kept from you:

• Israel was founded as a shelter for Jews from across the world after hundreds of years of persecution and the murder of six million of our people.

• Since the day Israel was founded we have offered peace to our neighbors time and again, we offered coexistence and compromise with the Arabs who live here. Our offers were declined.

• Israel has made two peace treaties –with Jordan and with Egypt – and both times proved that for the sake of peace we are willing to pay a heavy price.

• Twice, in the year 2000 and 2008, Israel offered the Palestinians the opportunity to build a country of their own on over 90% of the land. Both times the Palestinians said no.

• In 2005, as part of the disengagement plan, Israel left Gaza with no demands. We took down the settlements and the army withdrew. Instead of using the opportunity to build a better life for themselves, the Palestinians used Gaza as a launching pad to fire over 15,000 rockets and mortars at Israel.

• Hamas, the terror organization which rules the Gaza Strip, governs it under strict Islamic law. The LGBT community are threatened with hanging (did Roger Waters tell you that? Maybe it’s worth asking him?).

• We are the only country in the Middle East that genuinely protects the rights of women and the LGBT community.

• We have Arabs who serve as Supreme Court Justices, senior military officers, senior police officers, senior government officials and as doctors and professors. There are no positions that aren’t open to them in Israel.

• In Israel we had a female Prime Minister, a female President of the Supreme Court and a female Maj. Gen in the military.

• In Israel you can sing what you want, say what you want and dress how you want. Just across the border, women don’t even have the freedom to run a marathon or ride a motorbike.

• Israel is the start-up nation but doesn’t keep its knowledge to itself. We share it with others to improve the world: From cyber capabilities to clean water to the fight against hunger.

• Israel’s hospitals provide treatment to whoever needs, including Palestinians and refugees from the brutal war in Syria.

Lana, isn’t it a shame to let the lies of others decide for you? You gave up on the opportunity to see the reality for yourself and to use music as a tool to connect and spread love.

Israel is a country under threat. Although we are strong and can protect our citizens from our enemies, the boycott movement spreads an incomprehensible amount of lies to disparage Israel in the world. They are trying to isolate us, to turn Israel into an illegitimate state. They don’t seek peace, and despite what they might have told you, they don’t support a two-state solution. Their aim is the destruction of the State of Israel. The naivety of people like you amuses them. They are using you to harm Israel but do their best to hide behind the language of peace and love. The only way to fight their lies is to learn the truth.

Sincerely,

MK Yair Lapid"

I agree 100% with this.

Palestine and Hammas the terrorist group (spelling wrong because I don't want it googled) want Israel and Jews to disappear

(not to mention Fundamental Christians also don't give a shit about Jews, but need them for the biggest conspiracy theory of all time they believe in

Palestine has many times refused peace including when Arafat himself wanted peace during Bill Clinton's time, yet his people refused it

The tunnels built were to bring in weapons to kill Jews and not used in peace like an underground railroad in the US

Hammas doesn't want rights for LGBT, doesn't want rights for Women, etc.

(and neither does the fundamentalists that trump in the US forces to act the way they do, including the (of hundreds) impeachable moment just this weekend

saying justice should not be looking into any Republican.

So I agree with this piece 100%.

Jews do not wish the death of Palestine, but the reverse is sadly not the case. Hammas and the old PLO indeed do, as does Syria, as does some in other nations

in the Mid-East.

And never to forget- the land itself historically was theirs. The Palestine people came later.

Lana is our modern day Edith Piaf. Totally unique. a mixture of Brian WIlson Roy Orbison, Leonard Cohen, Gram Parsons, Elton & Bernie. Born to Die/Paradise is comparable to Elton's Captain Fantastic. All the records need to be listened whole. Waiting for a box set vinyl of all 400 songs not on any lp

RT. I can't believe Lana backed down after standing up for it twice

How do you figure that?

The Jewish people lived their for milennia until diasparas

forgot to add-

I do believe Lana was threatened with harm by some one or some faction and that indeed it was not safe to perform at this time.

again, the peace is not wanted by one side specifically who wants to get rid of entirely the other side

I do believe Israel would not have threatened Lana with bodily harm had she appeared in concert in a different place.

Regardless of one loving or hating the far right leader Bibi (and I am not a fan, I would prefer a Rabin)

Some people just don't want peace.  (Witness the assassination of John Lennon as an example).(glad his killer was not paroled)

If I understand LDR's current position on pulling out of Meteor, it's because she can't treat her Israeli and Palestinian fans equally on a "tour" to the Mideast. The Palestinians are already on record for saying they'd welcome her if she cancelled Meteor, which, in fact, she did. So the question I have is whether the Israelis have a counter restriction, saying they'll disallow performing in Israel if she performs in Palestine, which isn't even a nationality in my mind, so I wonder where the heck she's thinking of performing. If you Wikipedia State of Palestine it's the West Bank and Gaza strip, which is occupied--in an Apartheid fashion-- by Israel; however, it is Apartheid with a distinct purpose of keeping terrorism out of Israel and/or weaponization out of the occupied regions. She could perform in both Israel proper and in occupied Palestine, but only with the close coordination of the Israelis (for security reasons at least), which I wish the Israelis would actually attempt, as a gesture of good will. However this would have to be with blessing of the Palestinian "government", which quite frankly I don't see them giving. Still if Israelis made the attempt (and failed), that would be on record, or they might even succeed and we'd learn something about the univocality of the Palestinian position with regard to the BDS.
BTW- this is what I'm taking to be the explicit BDS goals, or what the "picket line" is all about:

It seems pretty one-sided to me as the Palestinians are asking for stuff but not conceding anything to the Israelis. But that's just my opinion.

Finally, as an alternative to all my weird-ass speculations, perhaps LDR's just waiting for the Kushner initiative to solve all the problems in the Mideast. A miracle on Trump's watch is, at least, not logically impossible, although come to think of it anything good happening on Trump's watch would be a miracle.

Remember politicians' statements don't automatically everything they say is true. Polish politicians keep on throwing social programs at people just so they shut up about the state of our court so whenever someone stands up they have a backup plan as to what they did right, i.e. social programs. Musicians protest in our country too, Mick Jagger and Roger Waters included. "Czarny Protest" also included artists standing up to women's rights for abortion in Poland. Israel uses shit they did right to confuse you too, but it doesn't make everything else right.

Whitewashing the state of the country by a local manipulator should be familiar to all of you.

I suggest taking everything out in the world with a grain of salt and checking your sources multiple times AND STILL having an open mind. There's two sides of every coin.

The region of Palestine doesn't even have a single government that can control all of its unoccupied area so how can some random BDSM movement organisation speak about whether or not she's welcome to come to Palestine, that's as if the Royal Parks Foundation tried to speak for the government or people of the United Kingdom and grant someone citizenship/a visa or whatever.

And ofc is the whole thing completely one sided just like 70% of the stuff u find on twitter or other social networks regarding this issue which is much more than about the occupied territories, military wrongdoings on israel's side and something that can never be solved by a movement that wants pop singers to "boycott a country" by not performing there. But by seeing the sheer amount of people who don't want Israel to exist at all, i guess one could say these movements and propaganda is working wonders in the age of social media, just as much as the one-sided trump or brexit campaigns did but this time with a sjw and leftist themed blanket put over it.

if people don't listen to an artist then they don't listen

plenty of people in the world

plenty of artists for people to listen to

on the other hand, any publicity is good publicity as someone once said, perhaps Lana should do like Dua did and right now release an updated Born to Die

and get it back on the top part of the charts.

btw- Lana should get rid of all negative comments from her social media, and only allow positive comments

more than anything negativity kills just about as much as guns do

I mean, I'm probably the biggest Born To Die stan there is, so I wouldn't complain, but like...

Lana-Del-Rey-Born-To-Die-Paradise-Editio

She kinda did that already.

time for the Deluxe 2018 edition add a few cuts, add a Holiday song (to keep with this thread, make it an international Holiday song) and have a new reason

for new listeners to purchase each year, keeping it active...no need to wait for the 10 year anniversary

So it's not like I'm some posturing bandwagoner here or whatever you're trying to insinuate. I have genuine long-running convictions about this issue and her playing this festival genuinely bothers me.

I'd forgotten about this and stumbled on it while looking for an old tweet of mine about Taylor Swift, but to even my surprise asking Lana to cancel this performance wasn't even the first time I'd asked Lana to care about pro-Palestine activism:
