Norman Fucking Rockwell - Pre-Release Thread

Recommended Posts

So, I'm back from hearing the full album and I'm blown away. I had never felt so many intense emotions listening to one of Lana's albums for the first time. The production is out of this world, her vocals are so damn crystal clear on most of the tracks, her high notes sound amazing and her lows are strong and warm. The title track is her best imo, with Honeymoon. I wasn't ready for the vocals at the end, chills all over my body. MAC, VB, FIILY still sound amazing, love them. FIILY is not the single one btw. Love DT too but doesn't fit the record, I'm sorry.

But now, let's talk about Love song. Call me sensitive, but I had never cried so much on a song before. Seriously. It made me feel things in places I didn't even know existed, it tore me apart. The line "you know that I just die to make you proud" transformed my eyes into rivers. I cannot understand the people who find it boring. But maybe it's a song you can only understand if you've been through something strong.

Cinnamon Girl is outstanding, HTD is really cute and I don't think it's messed up at all.

California was my second big crying momemt but I was expecting that. I just relate to the lyrics to a point that it made me ache. That one was painful but absolutely gorgeous.

I think TNBAR would've been way better in LFL but I've always loved the song and I'm glad she kept the same bridge. I love when her voice cracks on "all the roads lead to you".

TG is an amazing track, MAC's sister. Bartender is captivating. Definitely weird in its own way. The chords are so original and I'm in love with the verses.

HIAB is spectacular. Don't really know what else to say, it's so pretty and calming, very touching.

Finally, Hope is my favourite for so many reasons.

If I had to make a top 5, I'd go with Hope, Love song, Cinnamon Girl, California and NFR (followed by HIAB and Bartender, the order will most likely change)

Overall, this album is pretty much what I've always wanted from Lana.

NOW THIS IS TASTE Y’ALL!!! take that NFR! haters!!!!

Wait.

@Fallingcherry.

Someone here said that FIILY is same as the single version on some vinyls. Where are you from ? Maybe its region exclusive.

I'm from France but I got the CD, not the vinyl. I think the version on the CD might be the same everywhere in the world but I cannot confirm for sure. I don't even know yet if the FNAC exclusive album also has an alternative FIILY and the extended version of Hope. I'll find out on Friday when I'll go buy it with the exclusive FNAC vinyl too

I'll do it for the right reasons

Withstanding all the time, changes and seasons

All these stans making it sound like this is her Magum Opus while I'm over here enjoying just a few tracks and thinking that the production and mixing of the album falls flat and sounds downright terrible at times...

After we got the extended version of Hope from the leak and it was noted already on the German store, I think that might be for all physical releases. Probably the same with FIILY (although I hope I'm wrong)

Completely agree. I hope Jack won't produce her next album or at least put as much effort in to it as he did with Melodrama etc

No honey if it sounds lazy and muddled it's Lana's fault. We all know how much creative control she has over her music. I for once actually like the muddled sound

Yet her creative control didn't impact the production of her previous albums?

But technical things like the changes of mic in the middle of the song and the lines with different volume gains are not on her. It's Jack's and that audio engineer's whose name I forgot lol

Cinnamon is still such a bop but just imagine if the production and mastering of the song was done better, it would slap even harder

so we’re ignoring how she sang through paper and her vocals had weird filters on lfl?

true, but somehow it just created a nice voice "filter" on NFR she sounds muffled and drowned in hazy instrumentals.

Edit: there are parts where the her voice sounds like it was recorded with the cheapest microphones too.

Vocal filters are a creative choice, microphone quality switch mid-song, all-round bad mastering and demo-like production isn't (in my opinion).

Still not saying NFR is a bad album at all. But the production is 100% the worst out of all her albums.

Also link me to that paper thing cuz that's quite funny honestly lol

I'd say the opposite
