ilovetati 15,299 Posted August 11, 2019 This is a hard one for me. I'll have to go with Ultraviolence because of it's ability to conjure mood, paint pictures of moments, and the biting sarcasm throughout the record. The repetition in the choruses works in this album because of the hazy, 4am swing of the production. Lust for Life had very high highs in terms of lyrics, but also some of her very worst...UV is more consistent. I think NFR may surpass it, though. Some faves: "Shared my body and my mind with you That's all over now Did what I had to do 'Cause you're so far past me now You get a little bit of Bourbon in 'ya You get a little bit suburban and go crazy Because you're young, you're wild, you're free You dance in circles around me You're fucking crazy" "I could have died right there ‘Cause he was right beside me Jim raised me up, he hurt me but it felt like true love Jim taught me that, loving him was never enough With his Ultraviolence" "But I can't fix him, can't make him better And I can't do nothing about his strange weather But you are invincible I can't break through your world 'Cause you live in shades of cool Your heart is unbreakable" "They say I'm too young to love you They say I'm too dumb to sing They judge me like a picture book By the colors, like they forgot to read I think we're like fire and water I think we're like the wind and sea You're burning up, I'm cooling down You're up, I'm down You're blind, I see" "Down on the West coast, they got a sayin' "If you're not drinkin', then you're not playin'" But you've got the music You've got the music in you, don't you?" ^this especially speaks to me as a fellow sober individual. One of her very best, IMO. "He's got the fire and he walks with it" ^Seamless David Lynch reference "You say that you wanna go To a land that's far away How are we supposed to get there With the way that we're living today?" "The power of youth is on my mind Sunsets, small town, I'm out of time Will you still love me when I shine? From words but not from beauty My father's love was always strong My mother's glamour lives on and on Yet still inside, I felt alone For reasons unknown to me" And - although simple - the lethal sardonicism of FMWUTTT is underappreciated. HM to Born to Die, though. I know a lot of people focused on the Lolita theme, but it's a pretty incredible blend of Americana imagery, satire, and a personal narrative.

PARADIXO 33,127 Posted August 11, 2019 Honeymoon for me, especially when you think of them collectively with the production. One thing leads to the other. I am extremely metaphoric myself, so Honeymoon is slightly better than Ultraviolence's pure rawness. Norman will most likely top it though. I'm just very attracted to the 'whatever' attitude of the lyrics.
ArtDecoDelRey 15,284 Posted August 11, 2019 Although Honeymoon and Ultraviolence are my favorite albums of hers (atm, NFR is coming), I chose to vote for Born To Die. The album just has this some of the best storytelling through lyrics and it really takes me to another world, full of americana glamour and bad boys, but the lyrics also paints the picture of such an unfulfilling lifestyle, which has became apparent to me as the years go on.
Cacciatore 19,347 Posted August 11, 2019 It's almost a tie for me. Honeymoon has the best bridges by far, but Ultraviolence has awesome verses. I chose Ultrav because of songs like Brooklyn Baby, Black Beauty, Old Money, Ultraviolence and Flipside, they're lyrical masterpieces 3 Quote into your eyes my face remains

mkultraviolence 5,832 Posted August 11, 2019 I think Born To Die creates very vivid imagery with lyrics and the instrumentation so it has to be mentioned, but AKA seems more genuine to me I guess. There are always strong lyrics in all her albums, though not every song. This is so difficult

Fingertips 72,053 Posted August 11, 2019 Honeymoon. It's pure poetry to me. 0 Quote "You can't be a muse and be happy, too. You can't blacken the pages with Russian poetry and be happy." - Blue Banisters Quote I asked Asmodeus (the demon of lust) to make Miley Cyrus suffer. I am not happy with these new developments. After Miley rips off Lana's aesthetic, she bullies Lana into changing her release date. It is infuriating.
dead account 323 Posted August 11, 2019 Each album has something special about each lyric, but to me Ultraviolence is the most powerful. Even if I don't directly relate to something, the lyrics make me feel the emotion and it seems like I'm practically in the relationship 3 Quote I DON'T LIKE LANA ANYMORE PLS DELETE MY ACCOUNT
cherryblossoms 10,433 Posted August 11, 2019 I feel like Born to Die has the most character (Diet Mountain Dew, National Anthem, etc.), Ultraviolence is the most poetic (Shades of Cool, Black Beauty, etc.), Honeymoon uses a lot of imagery (God Knows I Tried, 24, etc.), Lust for Life is a bit loose and fun (Lust for Life, Summer Bummer, etc.), while NFR is going to be more confessional.

baddisease 17,960 Posted August 12, 2019 I voted for Paradise, but Ultraviolence and Lana Del Ray are also good.
drowning mermaid 1,706 Posted August 12, 2019 weeell, maybe it’s because I’ve never been in love (heartless bitch that I am) and AKA has the least songs directly about love or heartbreak compared to the rest of her albums, but I love how fun and out-there the lyricism of that album is. Plus, it injects so much magic and mystery in normal places you pass everyday, like motels and gas stations 7 Quote all my wounds are due to love, to love, love, love
SparkleJumpropeNoose 8,750 Posted August 12, 2019 kinda wanna say AKA since that album has such standout lyrics for me but 0 Quote CAUSE BACK IN SCHOOL WE ARE THE LEADERS OF IT ALL
creditcardromancer 780 Posted August 12, 2019 AKA, there are no skips for me and the lyrics are so different from what anyone else could ever do. Pawn Shop Blues and Yayo are two of her most beautiful songs.
Beautiful Loser 49,827 Posted August 12, 2019 I'll wait until I've heard NFR! before I lay my vote, but BTD has this great storytelling and way of words that I sometimes miss. 3 Quote LB DEMOGRAPHICS SURVEY 2024 | SECRET SANTA 2024
SlowGinFizzzz 15,355 Posted August 12, 2019 Y'all are ugly and fat for doing Paradise dirty and not acknowledging what a masterpiece it actually is. Lyrics-wise, I would say it's Paradise > Born To Die and Ultraviolence > LDR and Honeymoon > Lust For Life We'll see where NFR fits in this.
