Thats why they call me Dita 9,753 Posted September 14, 2023 Like, singing about real experiences that real women live through and how it makes the feel whether that be good or bad. Like wtf was going on 10 year ago, like those experiences shouldn’t be discussed and women couldn’t support each other because the media was pushing us to tear eachother down you could say it still does, but my god, things have gotten sooooo much better 4 Quote like a dream, you glide on the water and like a star, I shine from the shore
Mer 61,223 Posted September 14, 2023 "Candy for my eyes, in my veins you run citrus" is the perfect quintessential Lana line--you could tell me it's from any album and i'd believe you. 7 Quote ⊹ (:̲̅:̲̅:̲̅[̲̅:♡:]̲̅:̲̅:̲̅:̲̅) ⊹ 𓊔 I took the miracle move on drug 𓊔 ⚕️ The effects were temporary ⚕️ ⊹ (:̲̅:̲̅:̲̅[̲̅:♡:]̲̅:̲̅:̲̅:̲̅) ⊹

Which is good for her but... I've been wondering, why the media hated Lana so much back then when she started? I know it's different times but.... It feels weird and now I understand why Lana is/was upset about it. Like, she was bringing something completely new and fresh and fucking cool to the table and they screwed her over so much. Meanwhile, Olivia gets flowers thrown at her when her music is just generic and average. No hate to her tho I like some of her songs, she’s cute and her songs are very catchy but Lana is just so unique in every aspect… from her voice to her lyrics to her sound. No one was and no one is ever going to do it like her. Idc what the critics or the media says cuz they always a joke but i’m genuinely curious why they hated her so much lol maybe because she’s gorgeous and smart af they couldn’t handle it? Or because she was so diferente from what was popular in 2012 that they just didn’t understand it ¿? Idk it’s something I’ll never understand. If Olivia's breakthrough was in the early 2010s too, believe me the media would have shit on her too, they apparently did this to every young woman in the industry and they liked doing that, they liked seeing them vulnerable...which is fucked up. I think it's better for her and any other female artist (including Lana) to receive their flowers now, not after when they're dead or some shit like that Also Lana got a lot of shit early in her career because of that conspiracy theory that Rob bought her career and Lana had to change her persona for this because she "flopped" as Lizzy Grant and imo this conspiracy theory was ridiculous as fuck.

Her image also stood out and people wanted to tear it apart. 1 hour ago, Embach said: If Olivia's breakthrough was in the early 2010s too, believe me the media would have shit on her too, they apparently did this to every young woman in the industry and they liked doing that, they liked seeing them vulnerable...which is fucked up. Olivia is slightly different to the early 2000s Disney stars in the way that she gets more vulnerable with her songs, spilling about her relationships etc. People would have hated that even in the 2010s, like all the shit Taylor swift got.

Olivia still would have been fine tbh but she probably wouldn’t be as big- Taylor didn’t have any backlash in the early 10s- she only started getting backlash during 1989 when she became popular(she wasn’t that popular in the UK with one hit only-Love story) and then she had more focus placed on her and the usage of high profile relationships which she does use to sell her music-atleast back then. Lanas debut came out in a time when women like Beyoncé were labelled as false feminists by jamelia etc for acting like “pornstars appeasing the male gaze”- add on Lanas submissive lyricism and most people saw her as a tradwife trying to revive unhealthy stereotypes.

And Lana straight up said she wasn't a feminist which was iconic but gave a lot of people ammunition to deride her. Combine all of these things and you get a liability waiting to happen, easier to distance themselves from Lana and use her for negative attention than to embrace her and use her for positive attention which is what Olivia is for - she is someone who plays by the rules
Unidentified Major Tom 2,135 Posted September 16, 2023 Not quite important, but in a recent interview for Rolling Stone France L'Hebdo n°128, Jonathan Wilson briefly mentioned Lana, stating her as one of his close friends : Me trying to translate it in English : RS : "However, with your musician friends (Weyes Blood, FJM, Lana Del Rey), you share a similar conception of music: accessible but without compromise." JW : "Yes, and that's a blessing ! We see each other often, we share our emotions linked to our profession. We advise each other subtly, without intrusion. Together we have the feeling of holding the flame of a certain artistic vision. Having friends you can be proud of means everything in life, right ? They are there, a few steps from my house, this studio where so many songs flow. But, unlike Lana, who I am close to, at the local grocery store, no one notices my presence. Because I remain an outsider. To have this role of musical catalyst, and to be able to have peace of mind in my grocery store, what more could you ask for ?" Personnaly, I'm glad to hear they're still friends. I would appreciate another collab.

Ultra Violet 18,853 Posted September 18, 2023 I'm not sure Lana knows how much of a legend she is for writing Angels Forever Forever Angels and Madly. They're such classic rock songs that are timeless and I really think they would hit gen x-z in a certain way. At least she got Ride out there, but AFFA and Madly are the same energy (and maybe easier to listen with your family )
Make me your Dream Life 87,459 Posted September 18, 2023 what i really love the most about this era is that at least imo, she seems real happy to be touring and performing her songs. she grew from being misunderstood and being someone that frontier'd/ brought forth a new wave of music and sound, to now being able to enjoy her artistry and work.
