It already feels like America is in slow collapse and I'm curious to see if this event could spark something. At the least it could get the conversation on class wars going. I personally think Luigi will go down as an American folk hero but that's just me.

honestly the conversations around ethics of the shooting and it being an actual murder has been completely shadowed by the horny jail posts (honestly this thread being living proof) and it makes me wonder what the conversations would be like if he wasn't conventionally attractive

i know alot of people do not feel strongly about it anyway because you know... insurance company ceo... but seeing the entire conversation dominates by rail me posts is interesting (me lowk joining in)

i do not condone murder in any way shape or form but it does open up the class discussion in a good way. insurance companies are evil corporations and it’s about time people discussed it more

I don’t know… murder is always wrong. But I understand why people aren’t mad, the access to healthcare in the US seems to be… a joke sometimes. I saw a lady on social media yesterday describe how her mom had to visit Iran, a country she had fled from and is under heavy sanctions, to be able to afford cancer treatment… that’s insane.

I think he’s awesome tbh. I hope this sparks some sort of change in the USA but I honestly doubt it will.

If the Democratic Party is smart (they aren’t ❤️) they will take note of the class temperature in the country and use it to actually run on POLICIES like Medicare for all, a single payer option.

and if they are too weak to do that, at least talk about how we are the only superpower on earth who has over 10 million Americans suffering MEDICAL DEBT. unheard of in other countries

Like the Republicans are any better… 🙄

As in what I think about all of this, I’m not surprised at all. The healthcare in the US is HORRIBLE. You have to basically pay for air, while you get free care almost anywhere else like Canada and the UK.

The conversation before yesterday was almost universally the same, which was mostly that we all thought it was deserved and something we celebrated.

The conversation about murder is... grey. For example, let's say during the American slave era, a slave killed a slave "owner" (that term irks me.) Is that wrong? I don't think so, I'd think he got what he deserved. A lot of slave "owners" were rapists and murderers (at times directly, at other times, indirectly.) I think it comes down to intention and oppression. I think this type of murder is for the greater good, so it's justifiable the same way the French beheaded Marie Antionette. A burglar murdering a home owner is different because the home owner was minding their own business and not oppressing other people. In this case, the CEO was oppressing its own customers by denying claims that should've been cleared. Clearly, these aren't all exactly comparable, but it has similarities that I think help.

Healthcare is a human right and nothing about that statement to me is political. It really saddens me that still today in the US free health care can be deemed by some as a "taboo" issue to talk about.

His online presence signals something very alt-right to me...yes, this increases class consciousness but it's also interesting to see someone as radicalized as him be the messenger. The irony, however, is that he's very pro-Elon.

If someone left-leaning did this, I don't think the current reception would be as widespread as it is. My takeaway is that certain conservatives needed someone on the right to be the mouthpiece for what is, frankly, a non-partisan issue (but gets treated as partisan). Hopefully this minimizes the scapegoating that certain conservatives do of BIPOC and trans communities. I imagine it's going to take this for people to realize what the true "enemy" is.
