Paradise is an album. Yes or no?

Recommended Posts

Songs for this project started as songs for the next album as insider once said and Lana herself called it a separate thing in some 2012 interviews so you can say that especially that Young & Beautiful and I Don’t Wanna Go fit the album so well I’ve always considered them kind of part of it

I consider it an album but I also consider Ultraviolence as her second album so I guess I don’t consider it an album lol? Maybe the best answer is it is an EP but it’s such a cohesive and high quality project that it feels like an album.

9 tracks and over the 30 minutes mark register as an album to me :typewriter:

if we take robyn's honey for example, everyone considers that an album and it's also 9 tracks long and runs for 40 minutes, only 3-ish minutes longer than paradise :oprah3:

but it doesn't really matter to me, i view lana's career divided by "installments" or "eras" instead of specifically albums, and paradise was definitely it's own thing with it's own moment

It's only two songs less then chemtrails so it's definitely not an EP even though it is imo

In fact it's only one less since burning desire is on the special edition and Young and beautiful would make it the same amount

I think this is an EP if we consider the 2012 standards (released a year after the first album, 8-9 songs; it was an easy way to make more money and packaging it with the first one before having a second album. Gaga did the same with Monster).

But by today’s standards, it would be an album. Paradise has its own sound, it’s not a mixtape with lots of collabs or instrumental tracks and the songs provide a cohesive landscape. Interscope now counts it as the second Lana album.

in the end though, it’s not that important I think

I see Paradise as an EP but a completely separate project from BTD with its own vibe, era, tour, etc. Honestly it is anything but an extension/deluxe edition of BTD.

Yeah i have never really seen it as an extension of BTD. Thats why even on spotify i insist on listening to the BTD deluxe on its own and the Paradise EP on its own.

stop because i do this too. spotify even labels paradise as an album rather than an ep as well. i just wish lana included burning desire and y&b on the paradise so that it could be long enough for people to consider it a full album.

It's an EP for me because it was meant to be an extension to Born To Die after all (like they're in the same universe) and its length is like around 30 minutes and has 8 tracks (it has a one bonus track as well), which is usually a standard for an EP but as an era I count it separately because it had its own tour and movie (Tropico).

I think if another project has like 8 tracks but its length is like 1 hour where each track is like 5 minutes (but Paradise has only one 5 minute songs and that's Yayo) then it can the counted as an album. But Paradise is shorter than that.

This discussion reminded me then I made a thread some while ago where we discussed the orders of Lana's albums and the opinions were really different...

Spotify is known to be wrong a lot, And AKA is her first studio album, Even if she pulled it - You can’t change history.

To be honest I consider BTD to debut of Lana Del Rey and AKA as the debut of Lizzy Grant. Like they're separate projects, like a different band.

Lana actually considered "violet Bent backwards over the Grass" as her official studio album let me tell you....

not counting it as an album is selling it short. it is it’s own body of work and everything about it is stunning. it’s far longer and more involved than most artists ep's, and the amount of effort that went into the (as lana likes to put it) 'world building' is not lost on me

it is it’s own album

BTD

PARADISE

UV

HM

ETC..

I guess it’s technically an EP but I do consider it a different era from BTD even though I can see some of BTD’s influence on Paradise.
But if we’re talking about Lana’s discography it would feel so weird to just not recognize Paradise as its own thing. :whatever2:

even if Aka isn't considered as first album, they could count the audiobook of Violet (spoken word album) as one...

I don’t think anyone would count an audiobook as an album tbh

also considering Ocean Blvd said it was her 9th album on the cover and if Violets was an album then Ocean Blvd would say 10th on the cover so…

And then proceeded to name Ocean Blvd her 9th album 😭 but if Violets was an album then Ocean Blvd would have been 10th

Lana does, I think she said that.

To be honest, I think like most people, I count Violet audiobook as a side project. If she released the unreleased album or cover album, I would count it as a side project as well.
