Sportscruiser 10,653 Posted March 10 I really didn’t connect with this album on my first listen but something drew me in to keep listening to it… I love it now. There’s a feeling of muted sadness permeating through the record that’s really appealing coming from a pop star of her status - generally (pop) artists go big or go broke with their breakup/divorce albums but this one is quiet, adult heartbreak. The one that doesn’t destroy you completely but lingers indefinitely. The title itself tricks you into thinking the album conveys a different message but once you realize it was inspired on the Eternal Sunshine film, the whole thing clicks. And sonically? She does Aaliyah, TLC, Mariah Carey, Robyn, Missy Elliott… all in a very cohesive package that sounds undoubtedly hers. Very very good record and a mature overview of one’s life crumbling.
