so, a historical fact about that, the origin of the n-word, as well as other racial slurs in english, stems from latin languages, and not the other way around. the thing is, most of them don't mean anything harmful originally. "negro", for example, is the only way to say black in spanish. another racial slur in english, p*ckaninny, derives from brazilian portuguese (i think) word "pequenino", which means little ones. this has nothing to do with the charli xcx thread but i thought sharing this might be educational for the american audience, especially for the dumb woke teens that be saying shit like "cancel spanish".

 

anyway, here's my 2 cents on caroline's situation from my black latino pov: i don't think she's racist for quoting the n-word from jay-z & kanye, she's just dumb and stupid. she was obviously wrong for saying it but does that make her racist? i don't think so. americans seems to have this weird obsession with that word that i don't get it, but what i think is, if it is bad, no one should say it. and if you don't want other people to say it, definitely don't put in songs. but that's just me.

If only a small amount of these efforts in calling out missteps were given to fight the real racists, homophobes, transphobes... The thing is racism is systemic, nobody's morally superior, we all got the stink on us and this has become a race in moral superiority. And I just don't understand why most of these cancelings are directed towards allies who are clearly in good faith. One thing is to educate someone, Who May have perpetuated a bad behaviour out of sheer ignorance or stupidity and teaching them the errors of their way. The other is canceling people Who are clearly not racist and isolate the community more and more. Look what they did to Lindsay Ellis or EVEN Contrapoints.

I could see Baby being played on the radio/streaming/becoming a TikTok. The problem with New Shapes is how it’s off beat and it’s too hard for the locals to casually follow. So I guess my point is, we’re getting the whole album in 2.5 months so I’m hoping for the best commercial success.
