These lyrics aren't even that bad though? Detention is a well-written metaphor about the music industry and its treatment of artists, similarly to Show & Tell.

s&t actually has good lyrics (except for the second verse)

detention is a rhymezone mess with no correlation in the lyrics (the bridge makes me cringe)

portals is miles ahead, even songs with similar themes (strawberry shortcake - sirens/tunnel vision) are much more tastefully written

Fair enough you're entitled to not liking it, I don't understand your complaint about no correlation in the lyrics though. The entire meaning is pretty clear, and the bridge also matches with what Melanie was singing about— how she wanted to go home and stop touring but the label/team wouldn't let her.

Then again I'm also biased cause it's one of my favourites from the album. The production is just chef's kiss… MK actually snapped!

When the first snippet of Detention was released I though she was talking about meeting with some guy in Detention to make out, after listening to the song I think It should have been that way. She already had another industry/Hollywood themed song in the same album (S&T) and the metaphor in Detention doesnt work as well eitheir… that said the beat and instrumental are great!! Some sexy lyrics would have been Perfect
