What seems to be the general consensus for the fanbase around LFL compared to Lana's other albums?

I used to love this album when it came out, but I have such negative feelings now. When I think of LFL, I have bad feelings regarding it. It feels juvenile and almost like a parody of LDR to me. It feels inauthentic. There's a good chunk of the songs where I'm like "wow this is both pretty bad and good at the same time." There are songs I like individually a LOT (White Mustang, Cherry, Change) and a good chunk of songs that I don't skip if they come on, but as a whole, I just don't like the album. It feels like such a weird album to me, like something about it just doesn't work for me.

The best analogy I have of how I feel when I think of LFL is like an embarrassing high school memory that you try to repress and pretend it never happened to avoid the cringe. But idk why or what made me feel this way about LFL. I feel bad writing this because I'd feel horrible if Lana ever read this, and the album is way better than anything I could ever write, it just feels like a stain on her discography to me compared to everything else she's released (or even not released) so far.

Does anyone else feel this way? :crai:

There are multiple songs from LFL that I simply don't ever listen to... which can't be said for any of her other albums. What saves LFL for me is the heart behind it. I could tell that Lana was proud of it, even though it is the most least appreciated album by the fanbase. There are also some great songs on it, particularly Heroin. I just wish she trimmed the filler songs off of it.

I wonder where the album was at in 2016 and how many songs Lana scrapped to replace them with all the songs she recorded in 2017. In 2016, she had Love, Lust For Life (most likely without The Weeknd), Something Real, TBAR, Yosemite, Beautiful People, Heroin and Malibu. Then in 2017 she decided to feature other artists on her songs and that’s how we ended up with the final LFL and BPBP (or did she ask Stevie in 2016? Can’t remember). I guess she recorded Summer Bummer and Groupie Love in the spring of 2017. Coachella (and probably Cherry) are from April of 2017. In My Feelings was probably recorded in early 2017 after she broke up with G-Eazy, and GBAAATBWII was apparently recorded in January of 2017 (I guess WTWWAWWKD was also recorded around that time, after Trump officially became president in December of 2016). Tomorrow Never Came was recorded in March of 2017, and White Mustang is early June or something like that. Change was recorded in June too.

10 songs out of 16 were recorded in 2017, 2 that we knew of got scrapped (Yosemite and TNBAR), 2 became collaborations (LFL and BPBP). Malibu became Get Free (and I think the lyrics were changed a bit) and Something Real became 13 Beaches (the lyrics were unchanged if I remember correctly, but the production was a lot darker when it was SR). Heroin was one of the first songs recorded in 2015 and probably the only song that didn’t really change throughout the making of the album.

Hot take: I'm not mad at LFL as a trap influenced album specifically however I AM mad at Rick for making these trap-ish arrangements so uninspired and unimaginative. If she worked with someone else instead of Rick it wouldn't have been twice as flat in delivery

it makes sense to me that heroin is one of the oldest songs– it could easily fit in on honeymoon and carries a lot of HM's melodic landmarks imo. sonically it's the one song that doesn't seem to quite fit with the rest of LFL as it embodies so many of swooping melancholy of HM (it's my fav song off LFL tho).

The album grew on me in the way that I appreciate it as an incohesive, messy collection of songs - some of them are among my least favourites from her official discography ever (Lust For Life, Coachella, BPBP), others are among my favourite Lana-songs (Cherry, 13 Beaches, Heroin)

In this context I'd have to say that I think that LFL is definitly more exciting than CoCC.
CoCC is cohesive and I generally like it more as an album, however LFL has much more "highs", a lot more ineresting and fun songs. The trade off is that it has much lower lows aswell and does not really flow as a cohesive piece of art.

If I' have to cut LFL down to the tracks I enjoy, it's tracklist would be:

13 Beaches
Cherry
White Dress
Summer Bummer
In My Feelings
When The World Was At War
Tomorrow Never Came
Heroin
Change
Get Free

Just do it. Just do it - don't wait!

I don't know why I have the feeling that it is just the album we got plus Best American Record and Yosemite. In the end, both were sister tracks and both were scrapped. And, interestingly and luckily, both were repurposed for further albums.

Maybe it was like a very final draft until they cut both songs out.
