Las Vegas Shooting

Recommended Posts

A gunman (perhaps multiple) opened fire with what is believed to be an automatic weapon at Route 91 Harvest country music festival at Mandalay Bay Casino on the Las Vegas strip about 2 hours ago. The shooting began during Jason Aldean's performance. So far, 2 confirmed dead (some reports saying 20), 24 injured, 12 in critical condition. The Las Vegas airport was temporarily shut down & flights were being diverted.

Reports are saying the gunman has been shot by police in a room on the 32nd floor of Mandalay Bay hotel, from where he had been shooting.

Update: ~59 dead, ~527 injured.

Gunman was 64 year old white male Stephen Paddock from Mesquite, Nevada.

Paddock died from a self-inflected gunshot wound just as police entered the room.

17 guns were found in the hotel room from which he was shooting. He had been staying in the room for 4 days.

Paddock bought guns from local gun shop "Guns & Guitars" where all necessary background checks were completed.

More guns, ammunition, and explosives were found at Paddock's home.

Here is some of the horrifying footage from the scene. Gunshots can be heard, people running/screaming...

This is just terrible -- I can't believe it. It's absolutely sickening that somebody would do this.

I get so uneasy when I'm at the gas station or grocery store and I see people walking around with a gun on their hip --- after all of these terror attacks / mass violence happening in the last few years, it's hard not to be frightened.

1 gunman  64 year old white male Stephen Paddock, local using a weapon of mass destruction
WMD

A few years back he sued a Vegas casino.

My heart goes out to all the children and all the parents and all the friends and all

Just another day in trump's and the NRA America.

Meanwhile trump dedicates a trophy to Puerto Rico while thousands are in dire need there

and the Republicans in congress forgot to renew the CHIP (Children's health)

that Republican lobby group that doesn't allow talk about guns and bullets can go f'..k themselves. They are complicit in all the gun murders and injuries.

Now being called the #1 worst shooting in American history

Lana is our modern day Edith Piaf. Totally unique. a mixture of Brian WIlson Roy Orbison, Leonard Cohen, Gram Parsons, Elton & Bernie. Born to Die/Paradise is comparable to Elton's Captain Fantastic. All the records need to be listened whole. Waiting for a box set vinyl of all 400 songs not on any lp

Rest in peace to all those innocent people who lost their lives. This is just fucking crazy. Seeing this makes me worried about this world tour Lana is about to go on. Everybody please pray that she and everyone that attends stays safe the entire tour! My prayers go out to the families of the victims. Crazy man.

I don't even know what to say, this is terrifying and it saddens me to think about all the people who just lost a family member or a good friend that they will never see again due to someone believing that an act like this will prove something- but prove what exactly? They just wasted their own life and the lives of others those of which they don't even know, what is there to prove? It just doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

And personally, I am already paranoid enough as it is. I suppose the fact that death can come so easily by the hands of another person scares me the most, but the fact that guns are so easy to get to worsens it.

I don’t know what to say, nothing can change what has already happened but I am deeply saddened for the families of lost ones. It’s literally so disgusting how ignorant our president, our people are when it comes to gun control (and climate change). I’m about ready to go insane with the amount of people that are being hurt by everything in the world recently.

Wouldn't be surprised if all these terrorist attacks were set up by the US government as a tactic for manifesting even more fear into people's minds, because it's the easiest way to control the public. For example, look at relgion... a creation to divide the masses and pit different cultures against one another. Sorry i'm rambling

This kind of news is so sad to hear, i hate thinking about it. It's such a disgusting world we live in..

Agreed. This is awful. I had two trips to Vegas planned over the next 6 months, including Lana. Not sure if I feel comfortable going now, even just for the memory of these poor people.

But as someone who lives with one of those people with a sidearm, don't be afraid of them... they are the ones who would most likely take down the person shooting in one of these situations and protect you. Many are ex military, police, or private citizens who want to keep themselves and their loved ones safe. I also have my gun license and own several guns myself. It is smart to learn to protect yourself, and I encourage everyone here to find something to help keep you and others safe, whether it is learning how to safely use and take care of a gun, learning martial arts, CPR training, or even just participating in those mudhero type fun-runs... Take classes and always keep learning. You never know when you will need a lifesaving skill.

I know it's hard, I am struggling with this too but don't let fear consume you...

"If I could tell the world just one thing

It would be that we're all ok

And not to worry because worry is wasteful

And useless in times like these

I will not be made useless

I won't be idled with despair

I will gather myself around my faith

For light does the darkness most fear"

I know I don't know many of you, but I love you. Take care today ❤️

I read the rest of your comments and I want to edit my message to clarify that I am from up North and our gun laws are a bit more strict up here, so I can't say I know anything about what is going on down in America in terms of gun control... However I am all for stricter gun laws and vetting for mental health prior to licensing as that is something that would certainly help prevent incidents like this.

Fuck off. Seriously. There's no logic in that statement. None. There's no prior precedent for that. None.

This is an act of gun violence, an epidemic rampant in the U.S. as a result of the fetishization of weaponry and the ease of access to it. The debate on gun violence ended when Americans decided they cared about their guns more than their children. This is not a government conspiracy. This is America. This is its citizens.

Okay but do we actually know wether or not the shooter was a regular citizen or some crazy politician or? Do we really know anything? (And information coming from the news doesn't count as they manipulate everything). Also what i said wasn't heartless, i wasn't trying to be insensitive. Of course i am deeply saddened by what happened, but i'd still like to know the truth behind all of this

If you don't get information from the news where else would you get it? The news showed the press conferences with city officials who knew details of the case. The news had experts who knew how to dissect a tragedy like this and analyze it. The news had policy experts who gave facts on why the gunman even had that military-styled weapon.

Sorry to tell you, but the U.S. was founded on multiple things, one of which being the press. Journalists do an incredible job in the US. Sure, there are a few bad journalists and media outlets that withhold information and disseminate lies, but the majority is good. Learn to trust the news and it'll make you a smarter person and a better citizen (if you're from the US).

So, if you were watching the news or maybe reading from a media outlet, you would know who the shooter was and where he was from. Go look it up. We live in the fucking generation of technology and information. Not trusting "the news" is going to stunt your intellectual growth while your peers are taking advantage of this wonderful era of information.

Edit: I take your point though, and I kind of understand where you're coming from. We do, still, live in an era of "fake news." But it's so easy to point that BS out. Get your news from a reliable source like the New Yorker, The New York Times, the Washington Post, CNN or another trusted outlet. They aren't fake news.

I watch the news, but wether or not i'm believing or trusting in it is a different story. I still have that information gathered in my mind that everyone else is hearing though, i just prefer to figure things out for myself rather than blindly following what is shoved down my throat on TV or social media. I'm not saying all news is fake, of course not. The things you suggested, like the eye witnesses etc is all a good reliable source of information, but still i always keep an open mind

I could hardly watch the videos, this is so sickening and all my thoughts and sincere condolences are with those who were there who have been victims of the shooting or had to witness these kind of attacks

it is really hard to get the courage of continuing to live life like you did before, unless people come together and encourage and empower each other to not succumb to terror. i'm always torn between being paranoidly afraid of going anywhere and pretending to be brave and go outside and have fun and do all the things terrorists (and the like) want to make you afraid of. and las vegas *is* a (or maybe THE) place for having fun and letting go, i pray for the people to heal, and that in the future, governments might show to be more willing to protect its citizens with the right legislation

3 years ago, i was with my friends drinking hot wine in paper goblets until a truck driver crashed into the christmas market in front of us and run over 11 people and it took us a moment to go up some stairs to a store, and some hours later we were supposed to get to a bus to go to belgium and enjoy a lighthearted weekend before the real shit began at prep school. i'm glad we went with our plans and stuck together and i don't know if it counts as fighting against terrorism but despite all my fears i didn't want to stop living because of people like these

i'm sorry if i'm telling you about this, it might be rude to write about this (kinda personal) accident when the topic is about las vegas

i don't want to offend anyone, trying to live and enjoy life despite all kinds of shitstorms is something i'm working on and i hope people everywhere to enjoy just the best of things life and art have to offer

if you live in/near Vegas, they REALLY need you to donate blood

__

United Blood Services is set to start taking donations at 7 a.m. local time at 6930 West Charleston Boulevard in Las Vegas or 601 Whitney Ranch Drive in Henderson

The University Medical Center of Southern Nevada is also preparing to launch a blood drive Monday at the Delta Point Building, though the exact time of that event has not yet been announced

There are also prescheduled American Red Cross blood drives taking place at the SpringHill Suites Las Vegas Convention Center at 2989 Paradise Road and Ernest May Elementary School at 6350 West Washburn Road

__

i'm not sure where to donate money right now if you can't donate blood, but don't give any to the red cross, that's the quickest way to lose your money & it will not be going directly to those who need it

but yall, if you can, PLEASE donate blood. the hospitals are literally running out. there's over 400 victims in need

you can also call your representatives and talk to them about gun regulations within your state and nationwide. the HOR switchboard line is (202) 224-3121 (idk if that's toll free though), you can also find the number you need directly by entering your location here
