you do have a good point, her and her label were in such a terrible place with each other it was WILD
however iirc, her getting a new manager was responsible for a lot of them getting on better terms, just due to better communication and compromise

but also if she just released another mixtape that summer i don’t really see why the label would’ve cared that much, they obviously saw how much critical acclaim and attention it brought her with n1a/pop2 and they obviously weren’t gonna let her release those tracks on an album so

but yeah like @the ocean said, even though i don’t like self titled as a cohesive body of work and i do question their way of release that entire time period, i don’t think i’d want to go back and change anything, ultimately she’s ended up in a really good place and has made incredible music and had a lot of freedom since then so it’s like, whatever, slay

Charli’s new single “Cross You Out” is likely not dedicated to a lover, but to her “toxic" former manager David Bianchi.

Let's go over the dossier: his wide track record includes musical acts such as Seasick Steve, The Enemy, The Libertines, Boy Kill Boy and many others; the most successful of his current proteges is La Roux. All David’s artists are united by the fact that the music they record is far from mainstream, however they all somehow manage to achieve minimal and very short-term commercial success.

So, what exactly makes us think that Charli’s new track is connected with this particular person? On the eve of the song’s release, Charli shared with fans interesting details about the track: “This is a song about someone who at first was very caring and kind to me, but ultimately changed, and began to try to suppress my will and manipulate me. During the time that I knew him, I grew up, maybe also changed. However, from my point of view, he turned from my defender, into my executioner. "

Bianchi is known for breaking up his artists. For example he broke up the band The Enemy with a scandal, because after a commercial failure and catastrophically low ratings of their third album Streets in The Sky he prevented the recording of their fourth album; he also insisted that the group’s work be more like the music of "The Libertines," another band under his management. Interestingly, in 2016 Charli also collaborated with "The Libertines" to write joint music, and the group's lead singer Karl Barat was in her video for the song "Boys," Charli's last single under the previous manager.

David Bianchi was one of the first people in Charli's professional team, he was responsible for the release and distribution of her material from 2011 to 2017, after which he was fired by the Atlantic label. The reasons for the dismissal are not known, but most likely it was due to the drain of the original XCX3 into the network. He was also the head of Vroom Vroom Recordings, as well as the manager of RIVRS and Cuckoolander, artists from Charli's label, whose careers literally hung in the air when the label almost stopped its work. The last time Bianchi publicly mentioned Charli was in August 2017.

Charli's best friend, everyone's favourite Mademoiselle CooCoo recently shared the following statement on her Instagram: "Girlfriend, we know that David Bianchi pumped you up with drugs and fucked you up at 14." Do we need to comment on this?

And of course, who better than Sky Ferreira to become Charli's partner in a duet about toxic management? What do you think? Do you believe that the song is really dedicated to Bianchi? Maybe you trust the words of Azealia? We are interested in your thoughts.

    right
Like there were SO many incredible songs she wrote during that time period, leaked or not, that deserved a spot on that album SO much more than tracks like shake it/bioyl/etc.

but at the end of the day i’m glad the entire xcx3 era is over because it’s been such smooth sailing ever since. like i’m so glad her and her label worked things out. the fact she was able to do hifn? incredible. the fact that she was able to then pivot to something as produced and big as crash? also incredible

It was boys and girls and girls and boys
The Southern Comfort from your comforter got destroyed
It was shady eyes with the violent noise
We on the graveyard digging where the love is void
    We had a meltdown underground
Just a cemetery chick, I'm sober now
But I still taste your bones when I'm all alone
You're the best I ever had, but you've got to go
And now I'm on my own
    I said, "Please don't go"
    Please don't go

Do people think Angry All the Time is an album outtake? I thought a long time ago, we established that that song (like many of the others registered around that time) was one of the many she did with all those random producers, when her label was having her write with people from all over the place just to find something that clicked. That's where the song(s) with Kool Kojack, MachoPsycho, and Matt Squire (along with many others) came from. That must've been a weird time for her, writing dozens and dozens of songs she didn't actually like that much.

Pssh, those Rick Nowels songs might've even been done around this time. does anyone still have a screen cap of the tweets where she went off about them leaking? She said quite clearly that they were written solely for the purpose of being sold, i.i.r.c.

Any way, Supernova was registered with Matt Squire as well, so it is most likely recorded in that weird limbo period between her MySpace days and all those crazy punk performances and her meeting Ariel Rechtshaid. Does anyone else remember that interview wherein she said that when they met, she basically wrote Stay Away in one take, and from that moment just knew they clicked? And that that was the first song (i guess excepting Feel My Pain) she wrote for the album?

Seeing as people were talking about album rankings and I'm bored AF and not doing my day job, I'll chime in  and submit myself to the pitchforks.

For me, I can't give it a definitive 1/2/3 etc. numbering on everything. It's more clusters of like A-Tier, B-Tier, C-Tier, etc. There's also a LOT of unreleased and leaked shit that I put on a pedestal as well - not going to list each individual track, but some of it I've organized into my own albums based on similar sound/production, or based on when it was recorded.

    A Tier/Top Faves
N1A (& some of the unreleaseds from those sessions) XCX World Heartbreak High EP Heartbreaks & Earthquakes EP Super Ultra EP Électronique (My own fan-grouping of some unreleaseds) B Tier/Much Love
TR Sucker Crash (& the outtakes/unreleaseds) Sucker Pt 2/Sucker Punch (My own grouping of the unreleaseds from near/around that time) Charli: Side B (My own grouping of the unreleaseds from near/around that time) C Tier/I Enjoy A Lot
24hr Album Vroom Vroom (& the suspected outtakes/unreleaseds from that time) "Summer Love EP"  (my own fan-grouping of some songs with a similar vibe) D Tier/It's Alright In Places
Charli (Silver Cross is GOAT though)
F Tier/I Pretend I Do Not See It

This is all just *my* preference/ranking and what my ears like. I have no actual judgements or flames on what others vibe to the best.

Same. One this Miss Xbox has is a good amount of range. Her voice on Sucker and on a lot of the unreleased stuff pre-TR and around TR/Sucker is so different than what we get with hyperpop Charli, and both are so different than what we got with Crash. Definitely not a typecast/pigeon-holed artist.

Sucker solidified Charli for me as something different than the pop norm… which is exciting in and of itself… (I hadn’t heard True Romance yet).

Then the shift to the PC Music sound, solidified her as a legend in my mind.

I just remember feeling like “THIS is all coming from a major label pop star?? …who just came off 2 or 3 huge songs the year prior??”  👀👀

Sucker was the first Charli tour I went to and the show was INCREDIBLE, for that I’ll always have a special place in my heart for that album (and need ur love one of her all time best). That said I wish it had managed to keep the punk energy of the live performances  that happened before the record released, the recordings really pale in comparison.

    Looks were definitely given-
I like that no one else dressed anything like this at the time-crash has some amazing looks but it’s very stylist driven which is why some looks were seen on other celebs a lot.

sucker reminds me of being sixteen (it was the best of times, it was the worst of times etc) but it always holds a special place in my heart

also charli's aesthetic/fits were showstopping back then, i'm too lazy to make a post but sooooo many gorgeous gowns, still my fave fashion from her

lastly, i rly wish she would revisit this sound one day, seeing as how much the label fucked w/ it. SUCKER (Charli's Version) pls!!
