You are entitled to your opinion. You have every right to post it. But by now, pretty much everything has been said, you are just sticking around posting how awful you think this album is on EVERY fucking page of this thread and I don't really get why you just can't let it go. The album has already been out for 4 months by now. You posted your criticism, most of it very well worded, but by now it's a safe bet that when ANYTHING about this album happens, like an interview or a nomination or whatever, you'll be here to tell us how awful the album truely is.

I did not like Marinas last album at all. I was pretty vocal about it on the MATD thread and people got triggered cause they can't handle someone criticising something they like. However, after I made my points I LEFT the MATD thread and did not come back every day, for every music video or interview, to reinforce my opinion. Why invest my energy into something I don't like that much and annoy people who might like it?

And pls, making a freedom of speach issue out of this ... just don't. Really.

I normally don't @ people but I'm kinda annoyed at how incredibly boring and stale this got

@Jared, we all already know you adore Jack's production and all, but we don't need to hear about it 3 times on every single page
@MXDH, we all understand where you're coming from and I know it's just criticism (although highly nit-picky I feel like), but we don't need to see it on every other page

We get it guys, move on. We know it's your right to express your opinions but you guys have expressed the same goddamn opinions back and forth for the last who knows how many pages
Or I guess you guys can continue, I'm not that mad at the end of the day, do your thing lol

Also, NFR is an amazing album that still deserves it's praise. It's not her very best of course, but still

    this is awkward. hm ok.

but sometimes orchestrated looseness and stripped back-ness(?) is still very much valid. in fact it's what we've got. there's an honesty in it too. Sundance and art films are films too. maybe it's really less about focusing on how the production limits, but urges the listener to focus more on the tones of her voice (something she's also quite known for, her emotions coming thru) than anything else.
like, why limit ur thinking when u can b flexible, b more open into listening to things in a different manner, gen question.

Can you get over it then? Gawd you are on every page of this thread acting up as the negative nancy, posting why you hate the album and Jaxk so much. We got it. It's getting annoying by now.

I've got to agree. Ultraviolence is an incredible album, and back then it was like goddamn, her best ever... I still think Honeymoon is slightly her very best record, but Norman is just another league. It's simply better than most of her discography. It has the 'classic' feeling only Born to Die had, while her other projects felt more like 'cult' albums.

It's not a coincidence that Norman is already a 21st century classique... it's not only that the industry finally accepted and understood her. The album itself is grand. Right album, right time...

I thought UV and HM would never be beaten but I actually do think NFR is her best, the more I listen to it the more I like all the songs everything just sounds too good.

I've been defending Lana online and sharing her music with friends and family for years, changing many people's opinion about her.

Not trying to be rude but it seems like you may be the one who needs to get out of the LanaBoards bubble, or rather the online bubble in general. Who cares that you've spoken with lots of people on Reddit and Twitter who think the album is just okay? We get it, you don't love the album, and there are other people that don't either. That's fine, but that says nothing about the longevity of an album. There are a lot more people who think it's a great album. Either way, Lana has nothing to worry about in terms of longevity. She's one of the defining artists of the decade and has clearly made a substantial mark on the music industry, and she's way past the point of being forgotten one day. I really don't get what you're trying to accomplish or convince people.

the mental breakdowns i had to read 10 pages ago because the album is being praised and admired

Lol @ people complaining that the same publications praising Lana now are the ones who hated on her at the beginning of her career. It's been 10 years. The same people aren't writing the reviews anymore. Opinions change, and staff does too. Stop pretending that the acclaim she's getting now is invalidated by the fact that the same site once hated on her. Honestly, haters can hate as much as they want, but please get over the fact that you're in the minority. At this point the only thing to really say is sucks to be you.

I’ve been saying this since the day it dropped but How to disappear’s so ahead of its time. People aren’t ready to recognize its excellence yet.

Just realised I said BTD aged like wine when I meant like milk, my previous post doesn't mean anything lol

BTD aged like wine, and though I cannot deny the impact that it had, it wasn't THAT good. It was surely something new and fresh back then, but looking at it now, it feels so overproduced compared to UV and HM. But again, I cannot deny the fact that it's iconic. I too find it iconic. It's just simply not the best thing she's done and Paradise is the worst.

And Emile Haynie is such an amazing producer. Wait For Life is one of the weirdest and yet most ethereal tracks Lana has ever sung on. He also worked with Lykke Li, he does nice things with her too.

I see the praise she is receiving these days as « the critics finally caught up to what we already know », in most cases. The tide began shifting for some with UV, but mostly with HM and LFL. They were finally « getting her ». I get the criticisms she received when she first came out, with BTD: she was an alien and one that was so different from the others that they questioned if she was legit (harshly so). The acclaim for NFR just makes me happy that they finally recognize her talent.

I get that we all have our own taste and prefer certain albums over others, and I certainly don't always agree with critics, but to see NFR as boring and badly produced, I mean... The critical acclaim has just exploded, with the end-of-year reviews. It truly is her magnum opus, at least in the public sphere.

I took a short break from it, over the last weeks, but came back to it this week. And man! What an album to come back to!
The high notes of the title track just haunt me. Venice Bitch still transcends me when I drive (that progression!!!). I am tired as fuck, so The Greatest is just the most empowering song about depression ever. And California?!? It's the prayer I'm singing myself and my BF, who is just as tired as I am. Bartender just calms me down so much. Hope is just so heartbreaking in the winter. And when she sings «My baby used to dance underneath my architecture», I just can't help but fall in love with this song all over again.

If you submitted references from the daily mail in any debate you’d be laughed at sis. It’s not a legitimate source of evidence they make up stories to get attention. Cite something from a legitimate medical study or from a university. I’m shocked how people don’t know how to validate amd fact-check infomation these days.

Who could blame her for wanting more money and recognition though? Sure one could say NFR sounded "safe" (and not in every way), but it is still 100% herself, artistically speaking. It's not like she released an album full of Don't Call Me Angel type of sound.
She may be talented as hell, famous, etc., she's still a human being like the rest of us, I guess. I can't even see how all this could be a bad thing for her.
