It's so hard to follow any sort of Lana news on this forum anymore if you're not constantly following. She released 2 new songs and there aren't even threads about it that I can find. Now everyone's talking about the poetry book again and I can't figure out why.

Actually turned out to be a pretty insightful interview in revealing her process and intentions. Unsurprisingly it confirms that she is the one that is holding up the album, which will no doubt annoy a lot of fans but it's whatever. It feels like this is the way she has always been if you look back to her myspace accounts, her youtube channel and overall very scattered online presence. We know she had 100s of songs but only directly shared a handful she liked. I think she is really enjoying living a simple life and she has always said she writes the best when she is happy, Video Games came out of "giving up" trying to make it happen. She has put out albums so rapidly since she became famous and it has been of a really consistent quality, she doesn't owe us anything. I personally think Mariners Apartment Complex, Venice Bitch and Sylvia are some of her best songs so I'm sure the album is going to be like interchangeably in her top 3 albums.

I understand it's the fact that it is literally done and has been for a while and she has no intention of putting it out that is annoying people but for whatever reason right now doesn't "feel" like the right time for her. I will say that I am typically very opposed to artists releasing a string of tracks that aren't really "singles" before an album because it just lessens the impact of hearing an entire body of work in one serving and kind of diminishes the status of it as an album, so I'm not a fan of her choosing that route.

I'm now just wondering what the Steven Klein shoot was for because her tweet was ambiguous enough for it to be either the album cover or a V mag story. Her not having a plan would prob negate it being for V.

Ok I haven't been keeping up at all. Is Lana still planning on releasing this album? Has there been any news about it in the past couple months? Anyone know why it's taking so long?

Anyone that thinks Lana is a chart artist needs to evaluate that way of thinking tbh just sayin’...

I see Lana/Lizzy/Elizabeth (whoever she is) as a story writer using her life. I honestly see her more as the quiet, weird, quirky girl who kept to herself and kinda lived in her own fantasy world growing up. I think she grew interested in the themes we see during the Lizzy Grant period (crazy, wild, Lolita, white trash, etc.) and she created a persona out of that and tried to do her best to live that out of pure interest in those themes. Then, when that wasn't gaining enough popularity and after pressure from her label, she had to try to reinvent herself again, which led to the creation of the Lana that was formed in Born to Die. Some of the themes from the Lizzy era continued or evolved, but instead of being the wild, quirky, white trash Lolita, she became the dark, dramatic, desperate, high-class, vintage depressed girl in Born to Die. The LDR persona has evolved since then (less Lolita references, less high-class, less depressing), and now she seems to be bouncing around between jazz, rock, vintage, and hip hop-inspired, while dark, dramatic, and vintage remain the recurring themes. Since LDR was the persona she got famous for, she's stuck with it. Who knows how much of that persona is her true personality, but she herself has admitted to writing about things she never experienced and admitted BTD Lana was a persona if i recall correctly.

Who thought it was a good idea to release the first single for the album 8 months, at the absolute minimum, before its release?

I'd like to see some pure, fun pop songs on NFR (or whatever it turns out to be), like 'Radio,' 'National Anthem,' 'Making Out,' 'Go Go Dancer' and 'Meet Me In The Pale Moonlight.' I miss her lightness and humor, the clever lines like those in 'Hollywood's Dead,' which seemed to be full of brief but accurate commentaries on what was going on around her.

I've really come to appreciate the Lizzy Grant persona over the past year or so. The AKA album is so good, but so incredibly unique and quirky. There is no other music close to it. Lana also has a shitload of unreleased songs that were written (I'm assuming) when she saw herself more as Lizzy Grant. The songs were so batshit crazy (in lyrics and how she sang them), and they were a lot more pop and rough around the edges, but that's what made them so fun and unique. I love Lana and how she's matured both musically and personally, and I like that we're getting bits of a Lizzy sound in some of her newer songs nowadays, but I really do miss the Lizzy persona. I miss the quirky, wild, crazy, immature, upbeat, badass, arrogant white trash version of Lana. Lana still never fails to impress me musically (I'm absolutely in love with Venice Bitch), but I would love to see what she would come up with channeling Lizzy nowadays. I don't think she's released an upbeat song since AKA, except maybe Florida Kilos.

Born to Die- Born to Die, Off to the Races, Blue Jeans, Video Games, National Anthem, Summertime Sadness... sorry, there's no other Lana production that comes close to these.

tbh the music we're getting this era are so good.
Hope is the strongest one of the three.
MAC and VB feel so much like Ying and Yang and I like the contrast.
Looking forward for NFR already to see what it's all about.
