I’m surprised at how many people don’t like the doin time cover, because for me it’s such a highlight of the album. All of the songs are so introspective and wordy on this album. Doin time really lightens the mood. Same goes for Norman fucking Rockwell too, but it’s just not as bop-y to me.

She always has a hard time conveying her work. It's as if she lives it so much she can't explain it. It's always fuel for her naysayers. But her shy quality is what makes her endearing still

She is definitely more confident I would say than she used to be in interviews and on stage, I think she is just naturally an anxious and awkward person though so she always does come off a little weird and will probably never be 100% comfortable in interviews. Young Thug who im also a big fan of is the same way in his interviews and has also got better over time. You can just tell with how fidgety, how they speak in weird patterns and fluctuate how loud they talk and how they always look around that they are nervous when being interviewed.

while i enjoy those lyrics more, i think the new ones fit and change the perspective, due to the song being right after california
i meant the glass shattering part, specifically, not the whole song. Although the greatest has a relatively substantial build up, the perspective feels different: bare, nihilistic, etc. which segways into Bartender, HIAB, and Hope. Like the mood shifts after the final chorus of TNBAR, if that makes sense

I think its just Jack talking but, in the beginning of California u can here someone call out "one two!" and i always imagine it being a captain on a boat ready to take off.. and then the strings and synths begin and it sounds like she's setting sail... my favorite moment on the album i think. Has me in tears

yeterday i bought my first car (truck) in the middle of the day (night) and i listened to the album on the way back and it actually made me cry so much. Also, my mom loved it too! we had a conversation about Lana's impact and how she remembered video games being on the radio stations back in 2011. The fucking bass in cinnamon girl made the seats literally vibrate and it was beyond stunning. Also, the glass shattering in TNBAR scalped me HARD with the sound system. As mentioned earlier, HTD is growing on me and i genuinely like it now!

side note: this was my 100th post <3

I was kind of afraid it wouldn’t work at nearly the beginning of the album. It just seems like a natural closer to me. But nope. It sets the mood beautifully for the rest of the record. It does still sound fresh! It doesn’t overstay its 10 minutes by even a second.

There is so much hate for the percussion on How to Disappear.  I haven't seen anyone mention this yet - so let me share some music history perspective on the "jingle bells" that might help you all have less of a problem with them.

First of all, they are called "sleigh bells" by musicians, and they were a big trademark of Brian Wilson's mid-60s Beach Boys productions.  He used them the way other producers would use tambourines, and they always added a distinctive sparkle to the Beach Boys.  You can hear them most famously on God Only Knows from Pet Sounds.  So over the last 50 years when another artist uses sleigh bells (outside of a Christmas song) it's 9 times out of 10 in an effort to reference/pay tribute to Brian Wilson/Pet Sounds.  Being that Lana is always finding new ways to reference California, Laurel Canyon, the 60s, Beach Boys this makes perfect sense.

    Such a good album I can’t
This truly marks her growth as an artist in every way.
Her voice really aged like fine wine. The Greatest is really one of her most political songs in the sense that she accurately captures the disillusionment in America in light of recent events. It’s just very self aware and almost kitschy but it’s so heartbreaking hearing her reminisce about the past as if she’s trying to run away from the present.

Yeah. I expect Taylor's stuff to sell well and fly off the shelves. But like I said, is it because not a lot of people care for "Lover" or is it because her people were able to have more copies shipped to these stores? I don't know. All I know is you won't find NFR in the store itself and better off ordering it online. It's really sad because I'm seeing a lot of NYC fans upset because they get to the store and there's no NFR. On top of that NYC no longer has big music stores. Virgin Records, Tower Records, and J & R Music closed years ago. There's Rough Trade in Brooklyn but they aren't what I consider a big record store. It's more like a hipster hang out place to buy vinyls and books and sip Latte. Then there's Generation Records in the village and they are a tiny indie music store. I doubt they carry Lana.

California is SO LUCKY they still have Amoeba Records. NYC has nothing.

Heads up for those who live in NYC - Target doesn't have enough copies of NFR. Like literally not enough. I have no problem because I got my CD in amazon but there's a lot of fans who want the "Target Exclusive" which is why I bring it up. I'm hearing a lot of fans from NYC on twitter, Facebook and instagram complaining that when they check out Target's official website to check for CD copies in stores, it says that specific Target store has NFR in stock. Sadly it's not true. Target updates their info every 72 hours, so the info they have on the store stocks is not in real time. From what I was told by my friend who works in a Target in the city, Lana's albums are flying off the shelves. Every time an employee put 10 NFR cd's on the shelf of my friend's store, it's gone within the hour. It seems to be happening in all the NYC Target stores. Do yourself a favor and just order NFR online and save yourself a trip.

What is funny is that Taylor's Lover album has all these huge tower displays in every Target store and her album isn't actually flying off the shelves. I'm not sure if it's because no one cares or because Taylor's record company had people send more copies of her album to these Target stores.

Anyway, this is just a heads up to fans living in NYC. Is the same thing happening to other Target stores in the US?

This is all you see when you walk into any Target in NYC. Lover album fully on display on shelves. Her fans have no issues getting her album.

NFR is so Southern California. I really feel like she achieved everything she wanted to pack in about the Californian lifestyle from her point of view into a beautiful showreel of an album.
I’m also incredibly high but wow what a beautiful, lush album. That 50s oriental sound from the Love demo actually finding a place on the album is amazing.

Every era I love to follow this little fact, I'm not sure if anyone pointed it out yet but she's (unknowingly?) keeping the trend of opening the album with strings or guitar, and alternating it by era:

    BTD: Strings (song: BTD)
    UV: Guitar (song: Cruel World)
    HM: Strings (song: HM)
    LFL: Guitar (song: Love)
    NFR: Strings (song: NFR)

And she's alternates whether or not the title track is an opener or the second song!

I wonder if it's an accident or not

it's a once in a career kind of song… a magnum opus. that psychedelic sound was brand new to us. venice bitch itself can be fairly described as mood music since that's literally the point, and i definitely use it as such all the time. even pull up the video. probably get lost in the mood and end up making little progress on the task at hand, but not always.

also, i'm a sucker for long ~'journey' songs and that one still blows my mind. check out: donnie darko - let's eat grandma, touch - daft punk, century - feist, movies - weyes blood, for my favorite non-vb examples

literally, there are *very* few albums i couldn't fathom removing a single track from. i have a weird way of visualizing tracklists that usually involves an element skewing the representation based on a tracklist's hotspots (making for some wildly different conceptualizations since filler can/will strike anywhere). but this is soooo tight at the moment (nn) like…. i literally go to the tracklist and wouldn't even know where to click. cinnamon girl is tempting since it's a fucking bop and i want it now but love song i could actually end up doing as my first dance, so no skips. then what, doin time? after that video? no skips. FIILY? why?

the only bump could be MAC and VB tracks two and three, but VB is central to the setup for the rest of the album and now i'm also annoyed at the describing of this as a mood album. i personally think it's insulting to reduce any of her albums to that but she does it herself so i digress on thaT. but yeah no i think this experience with the tracklist is, in my mind, pointing to an album with robust, consistent quality, but also the way she told the story in such a half-compartmentalized-half-meta fashion makes it just really gripping and unexpected to listen to. the flow is really immaculate, and thank u lana for this time capsule/treasure/monument/opus like we will literally still be listening to this on our headphones while we're lying in our death beds, if i'm not then something went wrong
