people always talk about her early lyrics being too clingy and submissive, and talk about songs like video games, off to the races, ultraviolence, etc.
 
why does no one talk about religion?? those lyrics are fucking disgusting (and i love it). literally worshipping a man like a god, and not-so-subtly comparing sucking dick to prayer/worship

I def think lana is a hater towards the other pop/alt girls. I remember she did a pre-UV interview where she basically said she was the only female artist who actually puts in the work, and that she “just can’t associate” with the other girls in the music industry.
 
and then she lowkey told on herself when she said her producer was scared to tell her he was working with kali uchis because she’s “similar” and he knew Lana could be “feisty.”
 
And we all know she fucking hates/hated Halsey, lorde, lady Gaga, now Ariana, etc.
 
She def has an attitude and looks down on some other females artists, and her IG rants confirm she thinks she paved the way for them (in her mind that prob means she thinks they copy her).

I think that the thing with Religion -as with all that album, sadly- is that no one payed attention to it from a deep perspective. Anyway, I think that the song isn't as problematic as the ones you highlighted. The fact that she depicts a blowjob or a very intense romantic experience (and in a truly beautiful and poetic way) doesn't come necessary as submisive, I think, when the mysoginist narrative is quite explicit in many other of her songs.

Some fans on this very forum are still on her dick for that, for real yeah it's problematic, but at some point you realize that these are just lyrics and you grow out of that. I've said it on another thread, I'm pretty sure even Lana finds some of that earlier lyricism/persona to be cringe. Like she now vehemently denies needing a person in her music, and also refuses to sing 'Ultraviolence' as well as 'Cola' and even cringes on stage singing certain lyrics in 'Gods & Monsters'.
 
I reckon there's been tremendous growth on her part these past couple of years.

i was about to assume it was that too. it got old to the general public by that point and it was sort of redundant to try and criticize all of her songs. also the blow job/praying comparison has been done before by madonna anyways

the title "chemtrails over the country club" to me brings about images of glamorous people being completely oblivious to their impending doom. like, i just see rich white girls in hollywood facing death from above. and not even realizing it. 
 
which is extra interesting because vapid white girls chasing love and luxury was kind of her whole brand, especially at the beginning of her career. so it's almost like she's deconstructing the archetype she created for herself.

But fr, it's obvious that who she hangs out with has a huge influence on her. Hanging out with only her possibly abusive or at least toxic ex boyfriend's might have made her seem more magnetic and untouchable but clearly her friends these days are far healthier for her and I can be happy with that .

don't get me wrong, i didn't follow her in her earlier career, but i feel like she was never seen with any female friends? it was always barrie or chuck. she always seemed kind of isolated. she never just hung out with anyone. 

To be fair, all these emo bitches ARE her sons, but she sometimes comes off as bratty about it.
