But under almost no condition should YA be allowed. I don’t want us to be snobs but we should have some standards. Also it would be cool if we got to most of rhe books lana references in her work ( this has its own thread)

Come one, come all, to this tragic affair!

    We're starting a book club!

So, I'm going to post a survey each time we finish a book and we'll pick the next one!! Maybe we'll do like 50-100 pages per week, I don't want to exclude anyone if they read slower than someone else.

Also, there's a good source for ebooks if you can't afford to buy books or don't live near a library (libgen), check reddit for the official link (since it's technically piracy, I don't want to link it here)

I know @DeadSeaOfMercury is interested, if you're interested please post here and you can join us!!

    Please fill out this survey!
    https://form.jotform.com/222215483579057

    Please suggest books here!

So far, it looks like people are pretty much interested in everything, so please submit your suggestions!!!

For the first book, we'll be reading

I can't be the only one that feels a close para-social sentiment towards Lana's music, and so I wanted to cultivate a kind of safe space where we can share/ or even just talk about (even to/ for our own selves) the listening experiences we've had around Lana's music, and the impact it might have/ t've had for us.

I had a long day and I usually just push myself (it also makes for good sleep), so towards nighttime, Lana's music has been a calming atmosphere when I don't want or really need something as aggressively stimulating. It's just the right amount of many things.

I've mentioned this before also, in how some of Lana's music just happened to be released in times of my life, where I'd be experiencing similar things, and being much to myself most of the time, having her music accompany thru similar circumstances really helped me recharge, and ultimately, heal.

I understand that many parts of the forum won't want to share these sort of things, but I thought it might be a nice space to have every once in a while.

Share some moments you feel comfortable sharing around Lana's music and those moments if you wanted to below.

honestly I would love some dark americana from her. NOT the trendy pop country we've heard a million times over the past few years...it simply would not work with her voice at all

country Lana would not be Hinga Dinga Dergen, she thinks my tractors sexy, achy breaky kacey muskrat, before he sheetz, pop country bullshit,
it would be slow and beautiful Americana country ballads, acoustic guitar driven, heart wrenching melodies with a touch of golden sun warmth and rural comfort.
Lana Del Rey isn't fuckin rascall Flat

    Lana cover Whiskey Lullaby

It could be personal in the sense that she is also afflicted with media scrutiny. Fame is only truly understood by those who have it, so she can feel super close to them. She also once said she believed she had a special, personal connection with people long gone before her through their art. I'll update this post if I find the interview.

Found it: “I knew then, really, that my closest friends would be people I have never really met before,” she said. “I was different and I didn’t know many people who felt about mortality how I did. As a result, I do feel a personal connection with the icons: John Wayne, Elvis. I loved how nice Marilyn was, I related to her. Finding girls who were as loving and warm as her is hard.” https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/elvis-presley-lana-del-rey-feels-friends-dead-celebrities.html/

I’d like to imagine the reason for the silenced parts were purely out of respect for those artists who have been heavily targeted by media and general public which contributed to their early demise. So as not to open up another discussion like “LDR name-dropping Amy Winehouse and Whitney Houston on her new album” or whatever. It’s like she’s saying they’ve had enough, they’re “free” now and must be beyond scrutiny. On top of that, you can put in those gaps any artist that you like who’s not with us anymore or even people dear to you who passed away and meditate upon what the song is trying to say as such.

Edit: Sorry that this is not really answering your question or in response to you, I just wanted to express my opinion on the silenced part when you happened to mention it. ♥️

eyes wide shut (1999) i think its my 26th time watching it because theres so many philosophical concepts hidden throughout the film my guilty pleasure is reading blogs dedicated to it that just explore different themes/hidden meanings

resurrection which is brilliant and incredibly brutal; rebecca hall's performance is !!!! (perfection). one of the better movies i've seen re: depicting shame and how it feels to be under the thumb of an abusive person and lose yourself completely.

Sounds like "Prettiest Girl in Country Music" might be on the album if Lana means what she says (a big "if"). Would not be mad about it.

Winner and champ pretty much mean the same thing, but still I think it makes more sense that she sings “winter”, for the coke is referred as “snow” earlier in the song so he’s snorting the “winter” in.
