Maybe you all should stop listening to 3 seconds leaks? Wait for the whole fucking song, don't ruin your first-listen experience.

the back to back Rocky Mountain High John Denver & Don't Forget Me Harry Nilsson interpolations are so brilliant, the synergy of it all

there is the overarching/general theme of memory which ties it all together but then she tackles two separate thoughts on it in each track:
remembering vs forgetting, specifically: wanting n choosing to keep the memories of her loved ones VS. fearing they won't (want to) keep theirs of her

& sonically, it's also beautifully paralleled in the way "like Rocky Mountain high, the way John Denver sings" & "Don't forget me" both get echoed throughout the entire songs in their choruses but build bigger & turn into something grand towards/by the end, of course with the help of her talented background vocalists.
there's something very symbolic in that too i think, like these are such important things to her (remembering her loved ones/being remembered by them) that she can't help but get louder & almost "shout" it out to make her point undoubtedly clear. it's very passionate actually.

tldr: The Grants & Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd are just such perfect sister tracks & the way by using those two 70s songs to help convey her own feelings on the matters, in turn she also made us remember/take note of them 50 years later is this sweet little bonus.  i wonder if she knows that 50 years from now the world will also still be listening to hersorry for the articulation skills on level -5000

People are entitled not to like this song or this sound for Lana.

I personally find the song to be beautiful as it is, love the production, love the use of the different instruments, the sound effects and the intro.

But acting like it's her best opener? It's giving recency bias. Ask again in three to six months and you'll have a different feedback in the post-release and "Unpopular Lana opinions" threads.

gonna ramble a bit here on the grants so just ignore and scroll pass if you don’t want to read long scattered thoughts.

there is so much depth to this song oh my god it’s unbelievable. there aren’t a lot of lyrics here but the lyrics that are present convey so much meaning and so succinctly and perfectly that honestly i think any more lyrics would just muddy it. i know a lot of people don’t like it when she sings about her family and to a certain extent i get it! but i personally love it like i maybe i’m just uncultured but i don’t know any singer who touches on topics like overcoming familial and generational trauma like lana does (i guess bjork does it a little in songs like quicksand and ancestress but not as in depth as lana does). it’s so beautiful and inspiring and i really relate to it as someone overcoming my own “karmic lineage” and just trying to be a better person. trauma in a person looks like personality; trauma decontextualized in a family looks like family traits. like there’s literal proof that trauma passes down your bloodline and i’m trying really hard to heal so i don’t pass it down to my family and maybe i’m just being silly but it’s so cool to see someone like lana talk about it openly like it’s just such a brave thing to do idk.

ok ramble over sorry for cluttering this thread oops

"It's a beautiful life, remember that too for me," followed by "When's it gonna be my turn? Don't forget me" in the next track really illustrates this concept of longing for your own contribution to a familial line and legacy. That really moves me, as I'm sure it does so many others – I'm really glad she's exploring the family theme in more detail because it truly is an enriching and rewarding aspect of your life to labour upon.

The Grants is the perfect opener for this album. I think it's an entrance into the world of Ocean Boulevard and I'm honestly not sure that the album could start any other way. I really feel like I hit the nail on the head when I said it would be Lana's Tapestry

IDK about u guys, but everytime it comes to the last verses I cry... like literally.
It's so beautiful and touching, the way she says ''It's a beauiful liiiifeeeee, remember that too for me'' it's so haunting. For sure this is one of her best tracks to date, and this album has everything to top NFR and become her most acclaimed record.

when she sings "like rocky mountain high the way john denver sings" with the building piano, the strings, the echoed vocals and her vocal performance there...
