Norman Fucking Rockwell - Pre-Release Thread

Recommended Posts

is this that moment where high fashion decides that low fashion is high fashion?? with the Met Gala ruining the "camp" theme and Vogue Italia running an LDR as play pretend librarian at some weird modern Grey Gardens (Technicolor Gardens?).  whatever theyre trying is failing.  i'm not really feeling it tbh.  feels like the fashion world is just running out of ideas.  meanwhile, no NFR.  doesnt Lana understand that poetry is just stripped down music?  like to me, music is a more fleshed out, comprehensive form of poetry.

so if Lady Gaga fans are "little monsters" and Mariah fans are "lambs" --- are Lana fans just "clowns" or "little fuckers"?

I kinda want to unstan because she really didn't give them an interview but at the same time I must say this bitch has some nerve because as far as I'm concerned the only other artist to cover Vogue without an interview was Beyoncé so  :creep:

I need the music like I can't believe we got a whole photoshoot and still no news :(

.

This is another important juncture where we should be being officially told that NFR is indeed still the new album’s name. The Vogue article should mention it, obviously, at least in passing.

An album title change is not really such a big deal as far as the media and publicity is concerned, if it does come to that. There’s already a precedent with Honeymoon, which was initially announced as Music to Watch Boys To.

i saw someone claim that distributors were refusing to stock the album because of the explicitness of the title - idk if it's a reliable source or what the precedent for that kind of thing is but i guess it's possible

Nah we've pretty much been through this already. They have to stock them, no matter what.

The thing is: people who listen to Lana Del Rey like to give off a cool image, especially people who are not really her fans but "pretend" to like her music to come off as a hipster, indie, cool kind of person. It's the truth, the majority of people who listen to her are like that and if you don't believe me just see a picture of the crowd at her concerts. And now Lana is... just not cool. She's not that bad girl who parties at Chateu Mormont with tons of older men, goes to fashion shows wearing all leather and sings about being in the land of gods and monsters. Right now she's just a white female who goes to the church, parties with her other white friends, drinks green tea and sings about going to the beach. She's just bland.

Compare her to Britney Spears, for example: on instagram, Britney posts videos of her working out, pictures of her children's doodles, doodles SHE paints herself and those motivation images grannys find on google. But her audience knows she's like that and her audience kinda connects with her that way. Lana, on the other hand, appeals to a very hip cool young crowd and recently she's just not it. If "real" fans are already dropping her imagine how casual fans must feel lol.

I promise this is the first and last long post I make on this thread  :toofunny: don't wanna get too invested like some of y'all.

Yall understood everything wrong. Lana said in September 12 that she will release on top of next year (October- December) and the poetry book will come come first, maybe in 3 months. I don't think it has being delayed

'Top of the year' is admittedly vague but the top of the year means the start, e.g. January-March. Here's a link to a translator's website who wanted to clarify the meaning: https://www.translatorscafe.com/tcterms/en-US/question.aspx?id=34435     She went onto her old twitter and answered someone who asked when it'll be out with 'who knows.' We're not misunderstanding anything.

Tbh I genuinely think this era could have been amazing in a lowkey way. Yeah she attracts the cool-kid listeners but the cool kids are wearing glossier makeup instead of brighter brands and are getting into the environment, it's not the same as it used to be and this $1 poetry stuff could have been good and fit with that aesthetic. I get wanting to wait to release it late summer- if that's what she's planning, god willing- but still. To reiterate, no, we're not mad just because she hasn't released it. She could have waited until summer 2022 to drop it, if she didn't say it would have been the top of 2019. My favourite band are off doing independent projects and the fans know we won't get another album until 2021 at the earliest. No one's mad because fans, even discussion board invested fans, want quality over quantity when they fall in love with a quality artist. If they'd announced that a new album was done, ready for release in a few months, and then just never mentioned it again and sent photos posted on their instagrams to music magazines and gave absolutely no indication of when they intended to drop it, then people would get mad. And rightly so. Artists shouldn't be expected to cater to their fans' every whim, but shouldn't jerk them around either. It's a two way street and miss del rey has closed one of the lanes for the foreseeable future.

I'd honestly forgive this era if she was that stupid to not know what "top of the year" meant and genuinely believed that she told us it would be out in late 2019

maybe because she is over 30 now and she doesn't wanna be walking around like a rebel teen with daddy issues anymore

imagine if she was like 40 and still doing all of that "bad sad girl" image

leave that to the actual teens like billie eilish

her image and sound are much more mature and grounded now, so is her brand

her being totally unprofessional this era is another thing

I agree 100%.

When was the last time the hipster DJ in-crowd was very enthusiastic about her music, took it and remixed it en masse? 2012. She hasn’t been considered ‘hip’ to that varied crowd since ‘Paradise,’ at the outside. She briefly and successfully presented herself to the world as an international style icon and influencer, which impressed millions, but then abruptly pulled the plug on that. Since then, her public image has been erratic, inconsistent and poorly-defined.

To me, for all intents and purposes, she hasn’t really been Lana Del Rey since ‘Paradise.’ She was someone else in the last three albums, perhaps ‘’Elizabeth.’

Either way, she is not ‘hip’ now, not ‘cool,’ not ‘in.’ At the upscale Manhattan salon where I get my hair cut, they have a great LDR mix tape, but everything on it is from BTD/P. I say, “Have you heard the music she’s released since?” and the answer is typically something like, “Does she HAVE other albums??” or “I didn’t know she’s released anything else.” To me, that’s telling. Does it tell the whole story? No.

I accept what she is now, but that’s not the same thing as liking it. I like MAC and VB, but I am wary of her increasing PC-ism in both her life and her music. I don’t like to see her constrained by it or advocating it.
