i can see why people think the california chorus has weak lyrics, theyre maybe not super deep at face value. but they hit really hard for me, and i think i get the place lana is coming from. it sounds like to me shes basically saying "if you take me back, i can look past everything youve done and we can do anything you want" ie throw parties. sounds like shes almost begging for him back and reasoning with him

Interesting! I interpret it a little differently. I think what makes this song hit so hard for me is because shes referencing old songs like Flipside and Shades of Cool and combining it with sentiments from references and more recent songs like Get Free, Change, Mariners Apartment Complex, etc. while still being effortlessly referential

Looking back at the UV era, Lana seemed to be in a dark place at times... but now she's in a different space, she's "the board, the lightning the thunder" shes "your man", etc. She knows her lover is still going through things, he's still depressed, changing his mood with the wind, but she's got a new perspective that she can share with him, "I heard the war is over if you really choose, the one in and around you" (John Lennon/Yoko quote, but also Ride/Get Free "I got a war in my mind... I never really noticed that I had to decide, to play someone's games, or live my own life, but now I do" Beyond that its just the extreme lengths she would go to to make him feel safe, comfortable, loved etc. because she still cares about him and is also capable of grounding this man and being strong for both of them.

Regardless of interpretation, its such a heartfelt song. A Highlight for me. I personally love the chorus but I could see how it could be even better with a stronger one. My main gripe with the song (and a minor one at that) is just that the outro should've been more pronounced.

OT: PLEASE @@Elle could you ask about Violet bent backwards over the grass? I want to know if shes got any plans to release it.

Current mood: moping around doing house chores with HTD on repeat like I’m some sort of lonely trophy housewife

taste! It has SO MUCH replay value I’ve had it on repeat for hours today like since I got home from work tbh. I love it so much.

lmaoo literally middle of the night in the kitchen i was playing it from my phone and did a tall stretch, caught myself in the sliding mirrored closet doors and those xmas vibes came over me like a tsunami. it's pure magic, felt great :illumilana2:

it’s honestly kind of forgettable for me idk, I’ve listened through the whole album at least 5 times now & I still can’t fully remember the song.

Has anyone realised that u cant remove songs from your albums now in spotify?? I've been trying to get rid of bartender, the sooner the better. Also i was thinking about scratching all of the grooves on my Vinyl over the track as well so that i dont have to hear it play

I dont know how to get rid of it on my CD yet...

Jack has produced the most acclaimed female album of the decade. He has more talent in his little finger nail than all other producers Lana has worked combined together.

God willing Jack and Lana start dating and get married soon!
