I think that look is definitely a reference to electra heart, but I don't think she's playing electra heart again or that this is a continuation of the story.

i don't fully agree with that post, but they aren't completely wrong about the anti-capitalism messages being overdone by her by now. the pro-women message is overdone too at this point from her -  we get it, women deserve rights (abortion, etc) but how many times does she have the same thing to say before she's finally done saying it? and let's not forget her business relies solely on capitalism and yet she's against it, it's weird and feels disingenuous

I mean I'm a little bit tired of the political songs, but it's her art and career, I think if she feels the need to keep singing about it she can, and if I don't want to hear anymore of it I know I can just not listen. Also, I don't even think she has that many songs that are particularly "anti-capitalist," it's like one or two lines in one or two songs lmao. 

 

As for the claim that she’s being disingenuous for criticizing capitalism.... everyone participates in capitalism by working, buying, and selling. Just because we live and act within a system that currently has no practical alternative doesn’t mean we can’t critique its flaws, and I don't really see an issue with her using her platform to shed light on that.

I'm sorry but where is the anti-capitalist lyric/message in this song? or cupid's girl? or butterfly? she's literally not said one word about capitalism this era, and she actually acknowledged fan criticism about purge the poison at the time, which she usually doesn't, she ignores it and moves on. marina isn't perfect and she is definitely out of touch at times and I'll criticise her when she does something dumb, as I have been doing, but I don't think this is a valid complaint.

1. I, personally, am not a Lana fan. I've never ever called her a puta the short time I've been in this forum. In fact, I haven't even mentioned her in this thread because this is Marina's thread. I have read many posts of people comparing Lana to Marina to degrade the later one, which absolutely sucks.

2. Marina has clarified that she thinks capitalism made us poor mentally, and yes, of course: her business relies on capitalism. What did you expect? she's an artist, and now an independent one. I do think her prices have been a bit too high, though, but how come you will drag her for selling stuff when her career is being an artist? how do you expect her, based on her career, to make money?

i think the history that surrounds and the diamonds also has something to do with it. when i think of MARINA, despite it being like 7 years since she changed it, theres not as much history or moments that stand out in relation to the name. like, marina and the diamonds is so reminiscent of her roots and beginnings as an indie artist on myspace. creating iconic moments like the ones ive and many others have personally tied to and the diamonds is harder to replicate with just marina

 

i think she changed her name cause she was going through depression and a very abusive relationship and she thought that maybe if she changed everything about herself (her sound changed, her city changed, her name changed, her lyrics changed, pretty much everything) then it would be better, but obviously that wasn't the case

IMO her criticism just sucks! like it's so bad. plenty of artists have criticised capitalism in a way that is meaningful, smart and not corny. marina seems to be unable to do so
