I’m gonna get hate for this but The Grants is very much just okay for me personally. I love the verses but the chorus is kind of just there. It’s just not that melodically interesting to me. I actually think I might prefer Sweet but not quite yet.  Fingertips feels like a diary page and I don’t even feel comfortable having an opinion because it’s so dense and personal topically (a tad boring though I must say).

So far: 

Grandfather > A&W > OB > The Grants > Sweet > Fingertips

I haven’t listened to anything other than the released songs but I already know she’s outdone herself. The way she carried herself last night and talked about emotionally processing the theme of family in one of the interviews indicates this.

 

I feel like this is the end of a karmic cycle that first presented itself in May 2020.  It’s as though her karmic lineage and grief of the last 3 years has been worked through to a point of relief. Lana winning the award and connecting with the other women in music stands for much more than just those two acts - it’s emblematic of her triumph and a happiness (as declared in her speech) that has finally been grasped. I hope I’m right.

Fingertips was always going to be controversial and divisive but it is objectively a brave and fascinating work of art. Not saying everyone has to like it as a song since it's obviously untraditional and challenging but it does deserve appreciation for doing something new regardless of how you feel about it. I personally think it's a gamechanger in terms of how she's approaching her art and what she is capable of. This album is going to be a full blown theatrical experience. 

 

It's going to take me years to fully absorb Fingertips. More of this, PLEASE.
