sparklrtrailrheaven 8,354 Posted April 28, 2020 Lately, I've been thinking a lot about a very singular era of Lana's career: the transition period lasting from roughly late 2006 to early 2008, moving from the acoustic, folky sound of Sirens to the classic "surf noir" sound of AKA. I see this as kicking off with the Ben/Run Motorcycle/YGLM session, and lasting until she began working with Kahne -- there's a darker edge in these works, and her songwriting was at, I believe, its peak: songs like Pin Up Galore, Pawn Shop Blues, Yayo, and Elvis all came out of these years. So, I tried to put together a little playlist of some songs that exemplify this period. It's kind of rough, simply because it's a mix of finished studio tracks, rehearsals, self-recorded acoustics, and studio sessions, but I tried to cull the best of her songwriting and cultivate a very specific tone: the desperate, deep South-flavored, dive bar gloom that only barely peeks out on AKA -- the original, largely forgotten brand of LDR sadcore. Featuring an edit by @@Trash Magic that came at the perfect time and was weirdly exactly what I was imagining, here's "FLORIDA DARK":

Furor Poeticus 15,547 Posted January 29, 2021 Hi y'all This is something I came up with a few years ago, when I started listening to Lana's unreleased songs: I compiled those which I've found stylistically similar and created somewhat cohesive "albums". I'd love to share you those, feel free to share your own "unreleased albums" whose tracklists were deduced by you! Album 1: 1. Boarding School 2. Resistance 3. Every man gets his wish 4. Jimmy Gnecco 5. Pin up galore 6. 1949 7. Trash magic 8. Never let me go 9. Wayamaya 10. On our way 11. Velvet crowbar

sparklrtrailrheaven 8,354 Posted March 16, 2021 Liberally inspired by @Sitar, god of LDR organization and playlists, I decided to sort all of LDR's unreleased work into album-sized playlists based on era/producer/all that fun stuff, and attempted to use LDR-sanctioned album titles where I could (but not always). Only the Lizzy-era playlists are solidified for the moment, but here they are!: DISC 1: MY ONLY GOD - 2006/7 session and acoustic tracks. Very stripped-down, guitar-heavy, moody vibe. Cover swiped from @Skid Row Cherry Pie's sickening sig Spoiler DISC 2: GOD BLESS AMERICA - My humble approximation of Mertens' AKA, with Mermaid Motel restored to iconic closing track. All Mertens studio work, with The Man I Love fan-edit to maximize the surf noir slayage Spoiler DISC 3: TRUE BLUE - All 2008/9 self-recorded acoustics, plus laptop demos that were shared on Myspace. Worry you not about the rest of the laptop demos, they've got their own gig Spoiler DISC 4: TROPICANA - Post-AKA studio tracks, 2008/9. Very flirty, very fun, very offbeat, with an earth-shatteringly gorgeous cover by @le garce that doesn't actually say Tropicana, but shh the vibe is immaculate Also, super conflicted on the order for the second half of this Spoiler DISC 4A: DAYTONA METH - THE holy text; all 2007-9 laptop demos that didn't already appear elsewhere. Spooky, sexy, genius. I'm obsessed with this one, even if I'm once again struggling with ordering the second half Fucking incredible cover by @/blueribbontrailer on Instagram; don't know if they're here or not Spoiler So, yeah! There's still 12 (!!!!) LDR-era unreleased albums to come, but I'm super proud of what's here, and really excited to share the 2010-present stuff
