I've read every single post on this thread and damn, am I impressed with all of your perspectives and analyses. Thanks to you guys, especially @@DeadAgainst and @litewave, I've come to appreciate Lana's artistry even more. Thank you so much!
Which album do you guys think is the "richest" in terms of meanings?
And what do you think she'll bring to the table for future albums? Like, what else do you expect her to write about?

What is the song actually about? Is it about the burden that comes with fame?
What I picture when she sings "Love, I said real love, it's like smiling when the firing squad's against you; and you just stay lined up" is exactly this:
The firing squad as the ones shooting (!) pictures of her.

I didn't necessarily interpret it that way, but it's interesting nonetheless.
To me it seems that she went to Alabama in a desperate attempt to find happiness, as she is unhappy with her current life and she used to be happy there. She's looking for something that connects her to a sense of happiness and she can't find it. It makes me sad, because I can imagine the intense desperation: her looking around her and realising that there's nothing there anymore that reminds her of those happier times: the trailer parks, the Christmas lights, but also her old boyfriend - who "introduced" her to Jesus, they have all gone.
However, by "talking to Jesus" she is looking to connect with her former boyfriend again (and therefore to her old happy past) by saying "I ask Jesus to take me out of this life baby". The word baby seems to indicate that she's talking to the boyfriend, which gives the whole thing another sense of desperation.
Ultimately, I don't think it's about suicide, but more about: I used to live a happy life, "I fucked up (I know that), but Jesus" and I'm unhappy, and I want to live a happy life again. Something like that idk lol

UV: "Blessed is this union. I'm crying tears of gold like lemonade"
MTWBT: "Nothing gold can stay, like love or lemonade"
Meaning that the union she once held so dear has fallen apart? "I'm on my own again" (TBD)
I love how she makes these references. It's like she's openly reflecting / commenting on her previous perspectives / experiences.

There's a lot to unpack with this song but imo it is up there with Hope, lyrically
I think the opening lines set the scene really nicely: "haven't done a cartwheel since I was nine" (that was the turning point in her life when she was forced to grow up/realised things and nothing was carefree anymore) and the line about Patty. And she goes on to lament that she can't be normal and have normal relationships.
It's only speculation but I wouldn't be surprised if "American whore" is something Patty called her given its context in this song. It seems almost sarcastic to me. And I think the "your mom called," etc is more so something one of her boyfriends said to her because she says it in a sing-song taunting voice and that also makes more sense in the context because it's a very introspective song
The part about being maimed/r*ped I immediately thought of Harvey (or another rich, powerful man) because
I mean look at my hair
Look at the length of it there, and the shape of my body
suggests this was a relationship where she was in the public eye at the time and that if she were to talk about it (or testify) people would refer back to photos (?) and say "well, look at how you were dressed" typical victim-blaming shit
And then I thought about how she would've been 33 in 2018 which was just after LFL and that was when she started writing all her poems and I remembered the line from one of the poems that was like "took a ride on a billionaire's jet" and I remember getting the impression from that poem that it had to do with a secret relationship with a billionaire. And maybe all this has nothing to do with what she's singing about but it's just stuff I have been thinking about

ivy liked a post in a topic by Manson in Real "Sirens" Tracknames confirmed
Hey guys,
So I have NO CLUE if y'all knew this already, but I didn't see it anywhere, not on the Lanawiki page of the album...
I uploaded the whole May Jailer album to YT, and it got blocked (Interscope owns the rights to all Sirens songs, didn't know that also) and as you might know, blocked music is listed under the copyright warnings. So I suddenly saw track names that are definitely not what we have been calling these tracks before.
Track 1, known as "Drive By" is actually called "For K"
Track 7, known as "Dear Elliot" is actually called "Westbound"
Track 9, known as "Peace" is actually called "All You Need"
Track 10, known as "You Know Me So Well" is actually called "I'm Indebited To You"
Track 14, known as "Junky Pride" is actually called "Pride"
Track 13, known as "Move" is actually called "Find My Own Way"
The other tracks, especially like "Birds of a Feather" were unconfirmed titles (going by Lanawiki) but are actually correct.
Can anyone update the info page on Sirens maybe?

Do you know at which point you hear that male voice? I've been trying to listen closely and the only male voice I can hear is this sampled piece (Mountain's Long Red). Is it the sample?
Interesting to note is that the "goddamn"-sample was used in a demo version of BTD.

Why? Who? Me?
I was casually listening to BTD today; and for the first time the beginning of the song really resonated with me. I started to wonder like "who is she talking to?" and "what is the significance?"
I'm curious to know if anyone here has also wondered about that? If so, how do you interpret it?
PS.
Some of you might think of this as a silly question and would probably say that "it's not that deep," which is fine if you do. But I really enjoy thinking about this kind of stuff, especially because Lana herself had said that "they judge me like a picture book, by the colors like they forgot to read". And this is a LDR forum after all. Sorry if I seem like a Graham to you

I don't really know where to post this, so it's here, but mods if you can find the right place, help a twink out? This article just came out, before the new Black Keys album releases tomorrow and Dan talks about working on UV and being open to working with Lana again in the future.
Here's what was said and I'll link the article here as well:

I remember when WC was released and the btd Stans hated it
When the album was released they hated that each song sounded too much alike, but that was just the cohesiveness of the tracks and the world building
Will never be repeated, and I’m okay with that

Agreed. I think the other previous three lines also refer to those meetings. They made me think of what she said in the GQ 2012 interview:
I feel kind of uncomfortable for doing this, because I feel like I'm being very invasive. But I think these lyrics are one of the best examples that show her skills as a writer and how eloquently she constructs a narrative to express her feelings.
Spilling my guts with the Bowery Bums Speaking freely with other alcoholics (in possibly an AA meeting). A reference to New York. Things she's loved and lost: alcohol. Is the only love I've ever known Confirming that alcohol is/was indeed the only love she's ever known. Except for the stage which I also call home when I'm not serving up God in a burnt coffee pot A hopeful notion: she's found another sort of love. And in a more recent interview (L'Officiel 2018):
Love is not alcohol; it is hope. And both are dangerous for her.

Also, I've recently made a couple of notes on every track off Honeymoon and I think the entire album is some sort of reflection on how she experiences fame. I'll try to work out my notes and post my findings in the Honeymoon thread. There's a lot of inter-referencing (?) going on in the album, which is honestly fantastic
