You're right but I guess it's our internet age. It's Sunday morning, almost 11:00 and I'm wearing yesterdays shirt trying to muster the energy to take a shower. Yet I still believe I know what's best for Lana!

i've seen people complain about the lack of snippets and spoilers in this era but personally i'm glad for it, they just water down the excitement and first-time listening experience (HIAB was the worst, i genuinely thought it was gonna be a 9 mins track considering how long the snippets were   ) 

the thing about surprise releases is that i feel it's less about, sayyyy, how much financial power an artist has or even how big their fanbase is - i think it has a lot more to do with how socially acceptable it is to like an artist and their ability to be trendy and talked about universally.
 
frank ocean, for example, dropped a surprise release and everyone talked about it and it worked bc he as an artist is well liked, considered "cool" and has that ~aloof~ vibe, his fanbase demographic is MASSIVE and diverse, and he's a fave on twitter and IG, even if his numbers don't match that of someone like Lana. if Megan thee Stallion, who is social media's current favourite girl (she's earned that dont get me wrong!) surprise dropped an album tonight, it would be ALLLL YOU SAW on twitter and IG bc she's a social media darling and to *not* listen to her or like her music is almost shocking in a way, so the majority of people would feel compelled to listen to her album even if they've never listened to her stuff before simply out of FOMO, a desire to join in w/ trends and an urge to see what all the fuss is about.
 
Beyonce is obviously a massive artist but again, the case is it's more shocking NOT to be a fan of her than to be a fan of her.
 
being a loud and proud Lana stan isn't hugely socially acceptable tbh - it's not considered weird, but it's not considered cool either. despite all her success, talent and critical acclaim, i'm not sure a surprise release would generate a big amount of buzz outside of her more intense fanbase really. i can see, like, a straight 25 year old dude from London checking out a surprise Meg album or Frank album or Beyonce album if he sees someone on his twitter timeline gushing over it - but i can't quite see that same dude checking out a surprise LDR album if he sees someone he follows gushing over it, and i find it even less likely he'd then go on to tweet about it himself and ask his group chat about it. you know what i mean? she's not universally loved online imo, especially not after Culture-Gate.

What I would really like is a validated release date. Validated by the record company and real promos that just say new album from LDR to be released on xx/xx/xxxx. No snippets or early releases just a count down to the release date. That would be exciting. As it is we can't depend on Lana's version of things and I don't want to see clips of her making cage free scrambled eggs while singing 30 seconds of a new song while a cat howls in the background.

I think we all misinterpreted what Lana meant by a surprise release. I don't think her intention was ever to drop an album like Beyonce, out of the blue. I always assumed she meant no promo cycle, no pre album singles etc. Like she's referenced the album a couple of times before she mentioned a "surprise" drop. I think she just meant it would be more low-key and kinda would just happen, rather than there be a build up to the release date.

I think it's a shame that most of the reviews for this album will be reviewing that dreaded Instagram letter rather than the actual album. Same thing happened with violet.

I have an unfortunate update regarding the site software & server upgrade, and I've been going back and forth the past couple of days with if I should reach out to guys regarding this or handle it myself. Forgive me if my wording is a little jumbled here, I just feel really uncomfortable making this post.
 
We were unaware of this before starting the process, but $350 is needed to permanently upgrade our site & server.
Melly & I are able to contribute $50 each to this now, but I wanted to reach out to you guys to see if anyone would be willing to contribute to the remaining $250.
I know money is tight right now among everyone amidst the pandemic including myself, but I want to be able to bring this update to you all as soon as possible. 
 
I absolutely hate having to request donations, but again I do want to provide you all with the promised update asap, which is why I decided to do a donation interest-check. 
 
I mentioned in some of my other Site Update posts that in addition to new upcoming themes that will be available to everyone, I will also be creating other various new themes (including past-era themes) that will be exclusive for the Supporters 2.0 category along with other perks I'm going to explore once I see what options I have following the update. (right now, current Supporters 2.0 perks include a lavender nametag, expanded PM space, and larger profile picture upload size.)
That being said, I'm planning to revamp the Supporters 2.0 category to be a monthly low-cost fee rather than a one-time payment, similar to other forums's VIP systems. (as the reoccurring costs for the larger server will also be more expensive than they currently are)
 
So, as an incentive to donate to the $250 needed for the site/server upgrade, if you choose to donate now, you will receive these existing and upcoming benefits for LIFE, rather than the monthly Supporters 2.0 option we will be introducing.
(Everyone who is already in the Supporters 2.0 category from donating previously will also continue to receive the category's perks for life to be fair.)
 
Don't worry, LanaBoards will always continue to be a free forum for all Members, and all accesses that you have currently, whether it be in the standard Members or Supporters 2.0 category, will remain the same. There will just be some added bonuses in the revamped Supporters 2.0 member category.
 
I don't want to make it seem like I'm forcefully asking for donations, so if by this time next week the $250 goal has not been met, I will go ahead contribute whatever is missing so we can go forth with the update, and I'll worry about the money later.

Music video, album cover, magazine cover, album promo photoshoot, whatever it is It's gonna be a HUGE serve, that location is stunning. Can't wait to see it all and hear the album that's gonna be out on SEPTEMBER 4TH and WILL debut at NO 1 on the Billboard hot 200 

It was from Twitter It was posted several pages back. As far as I know people said that is a well known troll account so it’s considered fake at this point. It did have a nice little aesthetic to it though.

Lana has always robbed her music of worthy music videos (these days). The amount of fantastic things she can do with her songs but lately she just... doesn't, and the main reason is because she isn't working with professional directors. You don't even have to be professional, just be good at it. I swear to god i hope we dont get anything like that homemade music video we got last era, the songs deserved more

Is there a reason you guys think this photo shoot is for the album cover? Because it is screaming editorial for me. The shoot could literary be for anything.

As if Lana gave a single f about what fans want 

If the era is going to have more visuals like the editorial pictures we're expecting from the Nicole Nodland shoot I feel like we might get the high quality MVs we're all hoping for. In the NFR era she already posted the homemade stuff in snippets so we kinda expected those terrible Chuck videos with her California besties, but this era everything feels more professional imo.

Okay I must admit that this era is giving me mixed signals. When NFR era was about to start I kinda got where she was going to go with the marine theme, homemade videos and apocalyptic-nostalgic feel - I am not entirely sure what we're going to get this time around. 
The visuals seem to be gearing towards the "inland / desert" theme, with the shirt she keeps wearing and the location of the shooting and all that but the album title is giving me ethereal vibes and the snippet is giving me sultry vibes that just do not fit in with the whole folskish aesthetic that I've build in my mind. Of course this is mainly my bad, I tend to prefer concept albums like it really bothered me that Doin Time, Cinnamon Girl and the ruined version of HTD made the NFR tracklist. 
But like I am not getting the vision. Anyone else feels the same?
