  1. Honestly Lana could release a totally full bubblegum pop album featuring Calvin Harris or whatever right now and still she wouldn't sale as much as BTD if her label DON'T support her. Lana was never meant to be a radio hit singer and that's fine( whatever happened to European radios playing her song was definitely something that couldn't be predicted). What really helped BTD was the longevity - in a year she released 6 videos! None of the singles were instant hits but still managed to continue grow her popularity. While UV it didn't really have a chance in the first place - it was supposed to be the sophomore album of an artist that sold 5 million copies of her debut but they put her in this "internet artist" tag.The promotion of the album was literally abandoned 1 month after. Lana did tried to save it working with VICE to release a video for UV but turned out be that video which didn't help at all - she was already focusing on something else. I do think if they ( and LANA who cancelled a lot of her promotion stuff) had worked more on this album in the long-run UV would be more sucessfull than already is - it was released 7 months ago after all.
  2. From Billboard interview: "It's very different from the last one and similar to the first two, Born to Die and Paradise." New album is called Honeymoon ;D http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/6429534/lana-del-rey-big-eyes-honeymoon-album-interview
  3. This is my favorite album by Lana. As Chuck said in the Galore Interview ( I think) as a songwriter it was her top moment creatively speaking. The lyrics are so genuine and the album offers so much diversity than anything she ever released after this. My favorites songs are Kill Kill, Pawn Shop Blues, Gramma and Yayo
  4. This title sounds very Driving in cars with Boys 2.0 aka the greatest pop jam ever. But personally I didn't like because it doesn't have the same impact as BtD or UV.
  5. First, why the reporter mentioned nothing at all about the songs she played for him? A brief description would totally help us to live for the next 8 months Then she finally confirmed what we already knew: UV is dead and gone. But is funny that we've been calling her a lazy and she was actually working on new songs for all this time. PS: I'll bet that the first single video of this new album will be very "inspired" by this documentary just like Let's get Lost Someone watch this please for further proofs
  6. idk if I'm being optimistic but I think is possible a new release still in 2015. She already has a top producer she seems satisfied, 10 news songs, how she wants the sound to be.
  7. Not the full interview but the source of the Mark Ronson collab is http://m.grazia.fr/culture/news/cette-semaine-lana-del-rey-se-confie-en-exclusivite-a-grazia-720448
  8. Funny how after reading this thread and all the complaints about ICF I just can't listen the song in the same way again Big Eyes tho still it's a great song to me although I still don't like the 'Big eyes, Big lies' chorus - she can do better. When it comes to the lyrics of both songs I just loved the fact we were able to listen something that isn't the typical Lana Del Rey lyrics. UV for example is great but lyrically we all can agree she went even further on the subjects she already approached before - almost like repeating the same character over and over. Hopefully for the next release she takes a long time to live her life more and discover new things to write about.
  9. It's really good to see Lana in every single blog/magazine list who ignored her in 2012
  10. This year turned out to be so much worse than last year when it comes to bad publicity for Lana. Feminism and space, ultraviolence lyrics, the "I wish I was dead" quote, the revelation she fucked with a lot of guys of the industry, Eminem diss and now rape to add to the list. I'm kinda worried about her career now it seems even in the Uk/Europe people hate her now '-'
  11. I've read some reviews from Variety and others big names on industry and so far none of them mentioned the song which is very odd. Is really reliable this source?
  12. I literally just read the title of thread "Lana's best album tracks", I didn't know it had to be non-single
  13. There was a time before VG where she was heading to a more pop style - Kinda Outta Luck, National Anthem, Hey Lolita, You Can be The Boss were released before VG (of course it's not really the convencional pop songs but still more pop than what she usually does nowadays). Basically after VG they changed all the songs to fit the "indie noir" thing they were promoting her - that's why the demos of BtD songs sounds so different of studio versions. "Shockingly enough, 'Video Games' was a key moment for me. I was chasing hits, fast songs. I would be wondering 'how am I going to pole-dance in the spotlight to this, then?' I put up 'Video Games' for myself. It was slow, it was a ballad, it kind of had no chorus. I put it up on Youtube and it worked. Every day there were thousands more views. I just sat there wondering where these people were coming from. I had no idea how they'd heard it but people came and started talking to me because of that song. It was not what I expected. But what a relief. If I could have a shot at singing my Hollywood glam ballads as well as my more upbeat gangsta brother versions of those songs, that would be great. Just not having to try and sing like other people." http://www.vicarstreet.ie/component/eventlist/details/10215-lana-del-rey-live-at-the-marquee-cork.html
  14. Pre-Born To Die Era It was pretty exciting because we had AKA , leaked songs all the time and were expecting BTD...I still remember when I was addicted to DMD demo and I didn't know about AKA and then I listened and my life changed.
  15. AKA - Pawn Shop Blues BtD - Radio Paradise - Cola Ultraviolence - Cruel World
  16. I think Lana has so many songs lyrically strong to put her in the same categorie as a musician like Cat Power. Her lyrics have this cinematographic quality, like she can capture through words her whole world. Her lyrics are like a bunch of footage vintage clips put together in her videos: they're separately different but when you put in perspective there's a sense that transform those images in something more.
  17. I would literally sell my soul to be able to watch this show. You guys are so lucky you have no idea
  18. For me Ultraviolence presents the same character or persona but in a different light. To genuinely understand this album and its different facets and ambiguities you need to understand what came before that - we wouldn't have this record if it wasn't for Born to Die. This album sounds more an Act 2 or a continuation than anything she ever released ( even more than Paradise). There are this obviously contrast thematically where she's no longer the hopeless romantic that believed that not even death could separate her from her love. In the first line of the record she sounds defeated and this sad perspective continues for all songs. Even though thematically she is all over the places in this record she still build somehow a coherent work as a whole. The other aspect is the conscious decision to put so many ambiguous lyrics to attack the ones who attack her and at the same time to defend her of the critics. She goes further and further on the themes she worked before, she took everything it was said about her and decided not to deny but it takes as truth. Only to affirm: 'this is my show'. AND THIS IS JUST GENIOUS. Feminism? Bullshit, she gives them a song with the most non-feminist lyric of all times. Isn't she a sell out? Yes because she only wants Money, Power and Glory. You guys need to enjoy the album for what it is: "Ultraviolence has an air of "HI HATERS" drizzled out in gasoline, and an immaculately-manicured finger flicking a cigarette in slow-motion onto the ground." This just sums up the record so fine (thank you Zoladz for this)
  19. at the El Rey theater shows at LA http://www.youtube.com/embed/BrPjNInRjxU
  20. For me the sound she was looking for was pretty close to his vision for the album and without him probably it would have been a cheap version of the final versions that ended up on the tracklist. Based on the sound of the early demos of BB and AFFA and the tracks that were produced before Dan ( Pretty When You Cry, Money Power Glory, Guns and Roses) it was always meant to be a rock album. It wasn't meant to be a Paradise Part 2 or something like that. So I don't really care about the songs without his production but I'm more curious about how the record would have sound if all the songs were produced by him. The first part of the record is what she calls "narco swing", exclusively produced by Dan. But after Sad Girl the record starts to sound a lot more darker and heavy than I think it was supposed to be ( she said they changed the trackslist after seeing the photos of Neil for the album). And then in the end of the record we have Florida Kilos, this upbeat track that definetely it doesn't fit the album at all if we analyze as a body of work. But maybe (just maybe) after the "narco swing" part the songs they produced together ( and according to her they danced after finishing each one of the songs) were more "happier" or more "west coast vibes" inspired. This definitely would have changed the album as we know it.
  21. She also cancelled the performance on BBC and they didn't make a fuss about it, it's very unprofessional for them to boycott her. An artist can cancell a gig at anytime, it's not uncommon. It surprised me to see how Lana became such a easy target for those so called fans to attack her. She cancelled an event and suddenly she doesn't care about her fans? ( even though she demonstrated over those last three years to be one of the most kindness and generous person ever). Well, I guess that's what you get when your fans are 16 years old who "love" a singer different every month - they just fail to see her as a person capable of getting sick or having feelings.
  22. Three months now since the released of the album and after repeatedly listening I can definitely say that is one of my favorites album of the year. It's devastating, fun, heartbreaking, ironic, full of anger and resentments and nostalgic. Her vocal delivery for me in unbelievable good and flexible, the album is full of memorable moments ( like the mid-tempo change of West Coast, to the powerful chorus of MPG and Shades of Cool, that heartbreaking interpretation of Pretty when you Cry). Anyway, I felt so surprised by how good this album I didn't expect this at all - she could just release the same thing as BtD and it would be as successful but she decided to take risk and do something greater artistically and just this simple fact makes me love this album even more. Ps: Also I have friend who writes reviews for a brazilian indie music blog and he loved it and a lot of my friends who kinda hated Lana started to actually enjoy her music and this made me really happy. This album definitely changed the things for her.
  23. I'm more excited about the Brian Wilson collaboration but I'm curious about this track.
