I love the fact that we, intellectuals (well, at least some of us) know the best thing to do is to make a great Instagram + Facebook + Twitter post, release it today, call magazines or whatever to promote it online (Lana Del Rey Releases Album Earlier Due Leak). Bjork's Vulnicura leaked MONTHS before actual release date and she, an intellectual, did that. (as she usually does; does THAT)

The difference I found when it comes to UV narratives is that it seemed to be quite theatrical too (it was her second album, so she was still on the top of the creating-her-persona process). The production was huge -not in a bad way or meaning overproduced, I mean that it created very crafted atmospheres, it had a very wide sound-, so the thing exploded and Lana was there playing so many different roles. But in this case, I think it's just Lana trying to get her pieces together. There's no trail of the opulency of her previous sound. t's just her accompanied by very minimalistic and delicate music. She sounds so, so vulnerable. 

She said there was no bangers on this album.

For the millionth time

I used to be bothered by all the Hope slander, but now I think it's genuinely funny. The fact that so many of you are so delusional to think that piece of art, with it's beautiful haunting melody and it's incredibly introspective, honest, raw lyrics is "ugly" and "boring" and "the worst song of her career"- I have to laugh. I have to fucking laugh.

My interpretation is that it connects to the second line in "Norman Fucking Rockwell" - You fucked me so good I almost said I love you. She's trying to make it sound as if she starts saying I like you, but changes her mind mid-sentence because fuck it."

My guess is the whole “culture is lit & I had a ball” thing was meant to be a contrast between current slang (almost meme culture) & old fashioned slang. Kind of like a reference to her famous lyricisms almost always being old fashioned & well spoken. I don’t think it’s directly about the slang itself but more of a “I’m hip & down w the crowd but I’m still me” type of thing.

The album is clearly a story telling. Here's my interpretation of things from what we have right now, might change when we get the full songs with all the lyrics. Not gonna include Doin' Time in my story because it wasn't there at first.
 
NFR: She meets a new man who's amazing in bed but his behaviour is shit, he's pretentious and childish, so she doesn't know what to do with him.
MAC: She decided she had to be the leader in the relationship, otherwise it would not work, so she tells him he can rely on her.
VB: She basically idealises a relationship with him.
FIILY: She finally realises that she's REALLY in love with him despite his bad behaviour, but their relationship is difficult and she doesn't know how to cope with that in a healthy way.
Love song: the happy side of their relationship.
Cinnamon Girl: He probably knows that he's not so good for her but she's now here to stay and believes he'll be the man who won't hurt her.
HTD: she's ready to leave her past behind to stay with him and it's another idealisation.
California: she wishes she could help him more and ease his sadness, she makes him remember that he can count on her.
TNBAR: can't really tell for this one, the lyrics aren't precise enough and the meaning of the song seems to be different now.
The Greatest: she has enough of living in a fucked up world and feels like she's burning with it.
Bartender: she's trying to maintain a nice relationship with her man despite living in this fucked up world.
HIAB: she finally realises that this man is not the good one for her, he's a "serial killer", and she understands she should stop searching for happiness because it's gonna come eventually.
Hope: she finishes the album on a hopeful note for a brighter future despite all the shit she went through.

The Greatest is completely different from what I imagined the song would be like based off the snippet we got. I assumed the song would deal with losing a lover or someone else close, but I didn't anticipate that the "greatest loss of them all" may be the loss of faith in the world we live in or the loss of the world we once lived in.
