Love it when liberals work so hard to be LGBT allies they just become actively misogynistic.

It's amazing how different experiences we all have  connected to the same albums.

In general her music has followed me throughout my twenties, and been very formative, as I imagine it has for most of us on here. BTD and her unreleased material was an awakening to me. I started seeing the world and exploring it differently - everything could be an adventure when seen how Lana sees the world (in her songs at least).

With UV I was still high off that adventourous feeling, but around that time life also started to change for me. With Honeymoon I was in a chaotic evolving state and with  LFL I'd say I was a very different, more mature person who was ready to take on some challenges I had been postponing.

I still love her music to death, but I've also felt the need to disentangle myself a bit from that very sensual way of living in your own little world that her music first inspired in me.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  As a result LFL is definitely the album that had the least impact on me. There are beautiful tracks on there, but it wasn't the life-altering experience that BTD or UV were to me, because I was in different place mentally.

But I'm not counting out the possibility that she will rock my world again. I remember after Tropico, I temporarily had a distinct feeling of Lana-saturation, feeling like she had played out her role as the most inspiring artist in my life. I think I even made a melodramatic blogpost about it. Then she dropped West Coast a few months later and I was right back on the Lana-train

Paradise - this album reminds of exploring the world for the first time. I remember I was obsessed with the Ride opening monologue and the song. This also coincided with the time I went on my first big trip of my life without my family - to LA (I'm from Sydney). Will never forget driving on Californian highways, all the crazy nights, people I met and heartbreak when I left.

Ultraviolence - reminds me of the time in college where I started to learn to become myself. Looking back, I was still a much lesser and more scared version of myself now, but at that time who I was now - someone more confident, go-getting and free was starting to have it's birth inside of a closetted new adult with no confidence. The album made me feel badass, and also spurred my obsession with New York (Brooklyn Baby / Old Money). Old Money was actually my ex's and I's song, and we flew to New York together with Ultraviolence as the soundtrack of the trip. We broke up there, which in a way of makes Ultraviolence even more beautifully sad when I listen to it.

Honeymoon - I was very lost at this time. I thought I had found myself, but the people I hung around and lack of direction means I felt like I literally floated and I wasted my life for a good year. The album makes me delirious in a good way.

Lust For Life - I finally feel like an adult with well-paying stable job, creative and expansive projects and endeavours. I have lots of friends now and am very confident. I am overly conscious of the world around me - I have a sense of existential hyper-awareness tied with socio-political awareness. I want the world and people around me to thrive, and I want to thrive too, but there end of things is always on my mind.

Born To Die was the album I became a Lana fan with. I fell in love with Video Games when it hit the radio stations and Born To Die (the track) really got me hyped for this album. I listened the sh*t out of it and I rarely really play it by now. But each song kind of feels like an "old friend" and makes me a bit nostalgic.

Paradise has this feeling of both freedom but also fragility for me. I don't listen to it very often, but i really love it when I do - every track evokes so many emotions.
I played that a lot around the time I got my driving licence - I was driving around a lot and I also had a big crush on a straight boy by then. So Paradise kind of was my "soundtrack" by then, as cheesy as it may sound.

Ultraviolence is still my favourite Lana album. I was soooo excited during the time it came out, I love the raw, emotional vibe and the more rock-ish, low-fi sound and I love how she really changed up her game for this recoird. It's still among my favourite albums and I love listening to it during summer.

Honeymoon feels like the most mature album she has done yet. It's glamorous and I like the "escapism" vibe some of the tracks have, while others feel like a very hot afternoon. It's monotonous when listened to in full, especially the second half, but it's beautiful and every track on it is great. Took me some time to fully appreciate, but by now I love it.

I agree with you! Video Games is untouachable and very unique.

I often wonder why her other songs co-written with Justin Parker never reached the same level, even though they're great in their own right. Maybe it's the Robopop production that really set it apart? It's kinda weird that she never colIaborated with them again.
It could also be that there's this collective mythologization of Video Games because for a lot of us it was the first Lana song we ever heard.

Women and gay people don't deserve violent abuse either, yet here we are. I dont think that many people actively wished death upon him, or think that death penalty is good thing. But he happened to die, and it does seem a little karmic, given the fucked up things he did. It's quite rare that abusers actually get to repent proportionally for their crimes, so I can't really be mad, that people who have experienced abuse, or know people who did, see this as "divine justice" so to speak.
I personally don't celebrate it, but I'm not mad either. There are other people dying that I'm infinitely more worried about, than a guy who did absolutely terrible shit.

x was a gross dude, and I'm not going to rejoice in his death (even though part of me does). I'm not surprised any of this happened. He was a product of his environment, and was just egged on by fans and the internet. He never had any motivation to improve himself or his life, and now it's over.

Also Ari is so pretty she can make that basic ass album art look good.

Forgot to include this thought in my earlier post:

A lot of people have compared Lana to Holly Golightly, but she's more like Holly Golightly in reverse: a New Yorker of means masquerading as rural southern white trash rather than the other way around.

These are some of the most spot on descriptions of Lana I've ever seen! He doesn't gloss over the fact that she's making up sh*t, but he also sees that it's exactly the kind of eccentricity that makes her so interesting. He genuinely appreciates her for the kind of artist she is.

I wish more journalists could see what he sees. Would have spared the world (and Lana) for a lot of unnecessary think pieces

    You said it very well.

I don't think it's that she's stupid or playing a role as such, but more the fact that her mind works in the least academic way possible. Taking a step back, logically examinating facts and drawing a conclusion is just not the way she examines the world. Everything in Lanas world revolves around Lana, to the point that she can't make a statement about health care reforms without pointing back to herself and how she feels. In short she's good at talking about how she feels, senses and experiences the world through her filter = artist. A lot of artists talk bull when it comes to concrete, real world issues. Not because they don't care or are simple, but because they are way better at expressing how they feel.

I really really really miss when she was fully committed to her persona. It made her so fascinating and enigmatic and meshed so well with the music and visuals :'( . It really was like she was living art each era.

Soon, you'll be like Lana Del Rey; half an octave will be enough.

    - Yeah, you know, that's all you really need.

Of course, as soon as I said that, it occurred to me that you might be best friends with her.

-Actually, I knew her in New York many, many years ago, when she was still going by her real name, Lizzy Grant. And I thought that she was endlessly fascinating, because she was always kind of expressing herself by being a character. She would tell you a story and you're like, "I don't think that's true, but I don't care."

What was the best story she ever told you?

-Well, after we were introduced, she told me that she grew up in Arkansas in a trailer park, and was raised by her grandmother. But I'd already known that she was from a family of means in New York. So I was just like, "Huh, you don't say, Arkansas, trailer park." But it was like being around a performance artist. It's not like they're a pathological liar or something, they're just a person creating a character.

Back then, she was a freshman in college, and we were going to play a show together, so she came to my apartment to work on a number to sing together. I was living with a bunch of musicians, and by the time she finished playing her first song, my roommates were seated around her on the floor, just like little kids when their preschool teacher is singing to them. She's an incredibly unique artist and I think she's wonderful. And yeah, as a vocalist, it's not like she or I — or Bruce Springsteen, for that matter — could go on The Voice and sing all the runs and do all the tricks. But we can get across a song in a way that it feels like it means something.

We knew Lana made/makes a lot of things up but never knew to what extent...until now.
