Still kinda obsessed with Lana’s background “oh my god” right after Jimmy Jimmy coco puff starts in A&W (right around 5:28 timestamp). Her delivery is just SO good.

This album really gets better with every listen

I’m kinda disappointed that the album leaked early and then we got all these other leaks this week. This album deserves better than for this thread to be lowkey kinda dead.

She instantly drew me in and made me an obsessed fan back in 2012 when I was 13-14. My interest was at its peak in 2012-2014 (through end of UV era) since I was a lonely, depressed, closeted teen with nothing better to do than to stan her and Britney online, and Lana was so unique and different compared to pop music at the time.

I remember getting slightly less interested in 2015 with Honeymoon, not because I didn’t love the album or her, I think I was just distracted with other things. I was excited for and obsessed with LFL when it came out, I don’t like it much now.

Again, I didn’t really follow her between eras, but I did listen to MAC, VB, and DT when they came out. When NFR finally came out, it reinvigorated my love for her. It’s my #2 favorite album of all time, and the NFR/Bartender/HIAB is one of my favorite music videos.

I got annoyed and probably my least happy I’ve ever been with her in 2020 with her Instagram controversies, meeting with fans with the jewel face mask during the pandemic when there were no vaccines, her filming herself while driving on what looked like a curvy mountain road, her repeatedly delaying albums, giving fake album release dates and titles, and false promises, and just her arrogant attitude.

And then I was really disappointed in both COTCC and BB. I like COTCC more now than release, but Blue Banisters might be my least favorite release of hers ever. And it sucks, because everything she’s put out and all her unreleased music has always just clicked with me. So I was super disappointed that her most recent albums weren’t clicking, and ironically, it made me post here more because I’ve been going back and forth between being disappointed and angry and trying to convince myself I like them lol.

That being said, I don’t feel like I’ve ever stopped being a fan or my fan card has ever decreased in any way. Like even with me being more obsessed in 2012-2014, I feel like I’ve been at a constant level of Lana fan status this whole decade where I just will never not be a fan unless she does something truly awful in character. I have very slightly less confidence in her artistic vision now due to her two most recent albums though.

I agree that the lyrics are weaker, that the lyrics and production are less ambitious, experimental, and unique compared to the rest of the album, BUT that doesn’t change the fact that, sonically, Fishtail is one of my favorites on the album and will be one of my most played songs from it.

I think the last three songs all feel less developed and groundbreaking compared to the rest of the album in terms of its themes, lyrics, and production - which is why people keep saying they sound like bonus tracks. They all divulge from the message of the album, the lyrics are less creative, have less effort, aren’t as groundbreaking. Taco Truck didn’t even get a full a song and the whole “Spin it 'til you whip it into a cream, baby” part feels underdeveloped imo.

But same as Fishtail for me, that doesn’t make me love them any less and they will be some of my most played songs. They add a level of dynamism that the album would’ve been way too heavy and slow without. It feels cathartic to have a really heavy, focused, personal album end in what feels like a celebration. “Signing off, bang bang, kiss kiss.”

Literally just finished listening to Kintsugi and it had me tearing up. Also, those ending piano notes are so gorgeous. Perfect way to end the song.

My honest personal opinion on Fishtail and why I think it's the only weak spot on Ocean Blvd: I don't like that it's a straight-up trap song, it sorta ruins the flow of the album, especially after such classic-sounding songs like Let The Light In and Margaret. It should've been more of a trip hop with actual drums instead of 808s. It does "prepare" the listener for the next two songs, but still. The lyrics rely too much on the "You wanted me sadder" topic which was much better executed in previous songs (like Mariners Apartment Complex), and the whole "you told me you were going to do X but you didn't" idea is a carbon copy of Blue Banisters (one of her best songs thematically). Also, the vague Ella name-drop falls flat in comparison with the rest of the album's genius references and interpolations.

I do love the whole intro right before the trap beat, I love how it builds up and feels beachy and breezy. I love the Jump reference.

Overall, it's not a bad song, but certainly a weak LDR song, especially inside of an album that is everything but weak.
