Web article: Lana Del Rey is so sad, but it’s actually political
Lirazel replied to Beautiful Loser's topic in Lana Thoughts
I feel like looking at Sylvia's entire work and life through the lenses of her unhappy love life is very naive and stereotypical reading that does not do her justice and made me not want to read the rest of the article. -
I am so goddamn envious of her skills of self-mythologizing. I wish I could do that in my writing! Maybe I am lacking talent for that, or self-confidence. Can't help but love how she spuns tales of her life. I am torn about Hope is... when it comes to the sound, but I am so in awe of the narrative (though I hoped the Sylvia reference to be explored more, but it is what it is, I guess). Think I might do some close reading of her lyrics.

Lana spotted at Hillsong again - January 30, 2019

That might have been a bit excessive, yeah. English is not my native language so expletives have less weight to me - that and I feel like it's so common to exaggerate your words on the internet. I do think that ignorance is not that good defense, but it's the best what we have, unless Lana is a secret agent infiltrating Hillsong. I don't like what it says about her if she is supporting them in any way. Sidenote, but so many people in my country are criticising Ellen Page and saying that judging others for being homophobic is as bad as judging them for being gay (due to a slight mistranslation of her tweet). It's sad for me to see such a vile organisation getting support becauase it's Christian and so many people are still hateful toward minorities. Anyway, I will always be thankful for Lana's art, even if it all goes downhill and I will lose my interest in her person. I hope this will not happen, but who knows? -

I don't care if you think that I sounded aggressive, that was not my intent, but I am entitled to speak my thoughts just like everyone else - and that's how I felt at the moment. I know she changed her stance on feminism (whether for real or for clout, we don't know, but yeah) but it was extremely ignorant and holier than thou of her to imply that caring about issues of marginalized members of society is somehow beyond her because she's moved on to bigger and greener pastures aka Tesla and Space. That's like peak I'm Not The Other Girls Especially when you are disconnected from the 'real world' and strangely fascinated with shit situation many women are in because they don't have better options (and if she wanted to portray the sex worker by her own choice in her music, it's also really shitty to imply that woman's issues are just not that cool as smelly Elon Musk). I don't hold it against her now but it's a proof that she can be incredibly uncaring and ignorant when it comes to social issues. Actually we don't know much about Elizabeth Grant, only the persona she portrays as Lana Del Rey. Believe me that I want to believe that she is this talented songstress/poet with beautiful and dark soul. But I don't know that, not for real. I love her music and videos, look up to her talent in turning her life and fantasies into writing and take great pleasure from reading her interviews. I was always defending her when people where shitting on her not being feminist enough for portraying a 'problematic' woman and singing about uncomfortable issues, so it's not like I am blinded by a cancel culture/SJW agenda. I am allowed to not agree with her choices and be disturbed by them - I would say 'disappointed' but I don't feel entirely comfortable with that because while I am a fan of Lana, I no longer live on her every word (in the way that stans do, I am not talking about being an actual psychofan, kek) and in general, I do not feel this kind of personal connection to celebrities that I had in my teens and early twenties (yes, I am that old - and for sure I made things that made me cringe in the last few years, but mostly in the 'Jesus you are a socially awkward idiot' way, not 'supporting people with an -ist agenda'). I do not like or get what she is doing and I wish that it will turn out to be a red herring or a quickly abandoned, shameful phase. But things don't look that great now. I do not wish to fight with you, but I wanted to explain myself better, though I know that we will agree to disagree. Peace. First, I must say that I overall agree with you. I am just wondering why Lana keeps going as a musician if she does not want that for herself? I think that being famous/releasing her music out in the wild must have some appeal to her despite the bad sides. Unless she is forced by some contract, of course. I am glad that she is not going anywhere but at the same time wondering if she is really that unhappy with her fame (I need to catch up on some interviews from the last year FYI, I might have missed some). -

Either she's being a dumb, ignorant cunt again (remember her "feminism? I'm too smart for it, I care about BIGGER things like space and God, fuck sexually abused and murdered women because I am not one of them even though I like to portray myself as some poor sex worker in my songs" bs?) or she's a really vile person deep down under her artsy fartsy, depressive persona. Both of those options are fucking horrible, but as a stan who has much love for her art and person, I hope it's the first one, though it's becoming a bit hard. One word: disgusting. Sorry for the harsh words, but she makes loving her really hard sometimes. -
Which ending do you feel is similar to Donnie Darko? Now that you mention it, I see a resemblance, but it's not that comparable, in my opinion. I agree that the episode was weak, though.

I guess they really got the best of us didn't they They said that love was enough but it wasn't vs Walking is an art, so is my body

Funny thing is that the same thing happens if you choose yes. I went back cause I was hoping for something more but it was the same scene. I felt like the concept was interesting, but could been made better. Games like Heavy Rain have utilised the 'interactive movie' premise much better. . I really loved the Colin character, he was so fascinating and charismatic. Too bad I will never see more of him.

Is this poetry book even still a thing?

@ I am always so happy to see your posts, especially on topics I don't know much about, like Mylene. You always write such insightful things. Thanks for explaining Innamoramento to me. And yes, I would love the file with translations! I can't understand French at all so I would really appreciate them. I want to talk about Mylene more with you too. I really miss recently being obsessed about some kind of an artist and reading up on their 'lore' like I used to do with Emilie. Too bad we are not in Opheliac era anymore... I wish I could get to know Mylene more.

Seen her live a few days ago as she was on tour with A Perfect Circle. Love her powerful voice and darkness but not sure about the songs - they sounded pretty samey but that's probably cause I heard them for the second time in my life (I gave Hiss Spun a spin some time ago, but did not seriously get into it). I think I will listen to her more. Hopefully I will fall in love in time.

There is a new album finally? Great, I was checking on her like two months ago and was disappointed to see nothing new beyond a single or two... I like her a lot, though the Bjork inspiration on Chrysalis was a bit too obvious for me. I loved I 'd still kill you and I'm a robot... Her John Wick 2 appearance was spellbinding as well. Looking forward to hearing what she came up with this time. I hope she gets big one day, she deserves it.

Fuck yea, this game deserved a sequel. Can't wait to play it. It was so much fun to just fuck around the school and run away from the prefects and teachers.

I'm so happy!!! Another reason for me to purchase Switch. So looking forward to playing this, the new Pokemon game and Zelda. Life feels good sometimes

Minor General Questions that Don't Deserve Their Own Thread
Lirazel replied to Monicker's topic in Lana Thoughts
Whatever happened to the album with unreleased songs that was supposed to come out? -
Same but I unironically enjoy Rupi Kaur even though I know she is not really a good poet. I'm rather worried that the critics will trash Lana's poetry book but hopefully she is able to deal with this shit now... I'm very excited about the poetry book, I hope that I will be able to get it online as epub or a physical copy via bookdepository or something. She has to release many copies, her fans will buy it after all You guys, I'm so excited for 2019... New Animal Crossing for Switch, LDR6 and a fucking poetry book. How cool is that?
-
How did you guys know the video is reused? Was there a teaser of HIAB released? I'm so impressed with people who can read lips, I can never do that.... Also the song is great, perfect for a rainy September. Love it very much and looking forward to the next singles and LDR6.
-
No, unless you count the tiny copy for my BJD Do you own a photo of your first love?
-
With all due respect, I disagree. It was too tumblresque and felt too removed from the record and Lanas usual style. Please no more of this crap. I also think that Lana looks so old on the L4L cover... Its so bad though I love the vintage aesthetic, but a better photo could be chosen.
-
No Do you own a choker?

@@annedauphine OMG I came here to post about this game! I discovered it a few months back and I'm replaying it now, taking the side of Angus this time instead of Bea (though it hurts me, as her and Mae's friendship is so touching!). It's so cosy, relatable and heartwarming. I've never played a game with such great, realistic dialogue. I also love it for the depiction of the working class life.
-
I like L4L but it's nowhere near as good or iconic as BTD or Ultraviolence. The promo with Lana being a witch was embarrassing, as well as ~casting spells against Trump~. While it's nice that Lana shown a different side of her, I don't want her to dabble into politics no more. I just want into step into the melancholy and glamour world of hers.

Not sure if there are any EA stans alive on this board except for me, but - YAY! After years of waiting, we get a new record on the 22nd of September. It's more Asylum Musical stuff, but that's something, at least. I've doubted that she will ever release a new album, so I'm quite glad. As a side-note, I'm considering buying the Asylum paperback though I've heard that it's a bit censored in comparison to the old, big book, which I have printed out and cherish very much.
