i think lana getting the original west coast video denied by her label is what set her back in her artistry. she wanted to release it and do the cult thing for Ultraviolence, but since she couldnt it discouraged her and shes still in her artist block

I read Howl a few times, i have a book called Howl and other Poems so i read some of them. I have On the Road but haven't read it yet. As for the movies i watched On the road and i really liked it. I am not a big fan o Kristen's acting skills but i liked her in this movie. Also saw Kill your darlings and liked it and Howl starring James Franco. There is an amazing animation of the poem featured in the movie someone posted it, i quoted the post.

And Since 2012 i wrote many poems and songs and i feel so good with myself because i turned a bad condition into something beautiful Also Lana introduced me to Barrie's music with whom i can relate very much since i myself have gone through a very dark period in my life. And both of them are my biggest influences (+ Jeff Buckley who i also learned because of Lana).

I'm on the final chapters of "Tender is the Night" by F. Scott Fitzgerald and will be starting "The Beautiful and Damned" by him again either tomorrow or the day after.

I didn't mean the next album, I meant as a separate project. Maybe she recorded it for a special someone in her life and it was never meant to be heard by anyone else? It's not right trying to justify the leak by assuming that she was never going to use it. No point in discussing further though. I know she wouldn't use rejects on future albums, artists rarely do that.
 
I'm glad that everyone else can enjoy the song now.

Y'all act as if it was her duty to do M&G's.
It's grateful of her to do it and judging from how extremely obsessive and annoying many parts of her fanbase is, it's understandable if she a) reduces these M&G's or b) even drops them.
So many stars don't do any M&Gs. If you go to a Marina concert, you go there to hear her sing (or to scream lyrics in the ears of the people who'd actually love to hear her sing, if you're that kind of fan) and she's not owing anyone a M&G.

Maybe she cancelled the meet and greets cause she's been attacked in the last few days for everything she was doing. I guess that she's tired of this

Actually i'm reading On The Road and i'm loving it. I have plans on reading Owl from Allen Ginsberg and other Kerouac books. After reading OTR (it's the first beat book i'm ever reading) I will watch the film.
What books you guys recomend, why do you like the beat generation? Let's talk about it .
 
Did someone saw Kill Your Darlings? What you guys think about it? I saw it a few weeks ago and it was because of it I started reading On The Road, I was fascinated with Kerouac and Ginsberg world and I felt the need to read their books. They seemed, I don't know, so real. They kinda made a revolution at that time and I found it amazing.

A Dance With Dragons - George R.R. Martin. I need to get caught up on Game of Thrones once I finish the book.

Paralelly with previous, I am prepairing for "Wide Sargasso Sea" by Jean Rhys and would terribly love to consequently explore "The Madwoman In The Attic: the Woman Writer And Nineteenth-Century Literary Imagination" by Sandra Gilbert and Susan Gubar.
I have read "Ariel" and collected poems of Sylvia Plath, as well as her "Johnny Panic And The Bible Of Dreams" and "The Bell Jar", but I yearn for her journals, to have a sneak peak into her bare, aching and pulsating soul on fire.

You guys are so intelligent in the reading department. I'm reading City of Bones by Cassandra Clare. Don't judge me, I just love angsty fantasy books, baha! I think of buying leaves of grass by Walt Whitman. It would be interesting to read the poems that inspire Lana's lyrics. Aaand I like poems, always have. I have a book where I write down interesting poems and quotes I come across :smiles:
Seeing your love for Lolita makes me think I should read it too.

Had I not been scanning LB Entertainment, I would have missed this. Is Acid Bird going to release Cold Coffee, or is he still having release issues?
 
My feelings are generally really positive. I mean, he did go a different route than the EP, I think, and I'm still digesting that. I liked the idea of the lo-fi ambience in songs (prepared piano as primary synth sound, minimal synth and muddy guitars, reverb), liked his falsetto (night burns, angel tears). Liked that he redid Mary to retrofit the CD style (makes the original single a bit more collectible?). He also seems a bit poppier on songs, though in a melancholic way (angel tears, wherever you go, pictures, could be alt-indie hits?). 
 
I kind of missed the Art of Horror, which could have headed the album (and the intro for the album would make some sense as the outro for that song). I also missed the Art of Resurrection (only hearable in ScumBag video) that could have ended the album. This might have given the album more cohesion as a "statement-type" album (for me) and showcase more the guitar side of his instrumentality, but my only real agenda in this suggestion is that more Barrie is more Barrie (and I think those 2 songs were on the original track list he released). I don't know if he would have had to retrofit the songs' styles too much given the Chivalry is Alive ... song is included unchanged, but anyway, I hope those two other songs end up later in his formal discography.

Yeah, I get that but I feel like they made the wrong choice.
 
Lana would have been the controversial queen of 2014 and the streaming would have been HUGE for ha.
 
I mean the cover promoting smoking (original cover) [badass and controversial]

- Shades of Cool (death scene in video right after controversial guardian interview)
- UV (Jonestown omg)
 
Honestly speaking, it was controversy (well on top of good music) what made Born To Die so huge and iconic. First the accusation of authenticity (Lips, Surgery, blah), Snl, etc.
 
The UV era would have been truly "Ultraviolent", but it was intentionally tamed down.

When we finally get this video, I hope someone can edit an offcial UV video with all of the clips we got from this video and the MTWBT one.

Till this day, I don't understand why so much was cut from West Coast and why these clips weren't used. Ultraviolence era would have been so different and amazing. Father John Misty was suppose to be in the original UV video wtf..Things would have turned out differently.
