what's your damage heather? why are you trying to discredit her by saying she's "only mildly relevant on the internet" just because she's not your cup of tea? her stuff is incredibly innovative, not to mention she's totally changed the game by being a solo female artist who has (hundreds of times) gone on stage completely alone. she worked her way up from absolutely nothing - completely writes her own stuff, does her own artwork, directs her own videos... don't reduce her to some internet fad that will fizzle out in a few years when she's been extremely successful, developed a huge following & produced tons of great songs. her making it onto a lana del rey tour is a testament to that.

Maybe she just likes the word honeymoon sonically. She likes the mix of the words 'honey' and 'moon' because 'honey' reminds her of a sunset in the morning and 'moon' reminds her of the night and she thinks that's interesting because night and morning are kinda the opposite of each other. Also she really likes the word 'moon' because it reminds her of space and she loves space and finds it way more interesting than feminism and just life in general.

Visit Fordham University's Rose Hill Campus where she attended college. Listening to "Fordham Road", wander through the Bronx (careful, it's a "bad neighborhood"!) on your way there and see if you can find the cheap coffee place on Valentine or the "stone Mary in the garden". On campus, stop in to the McGinley Center there and check out the ballroom where she sang at a fundraiser. Cross campus to Rodrigue's Coffee House in Alumni House where Lana played several gigs (including her first known gig and another one the same night as the fundraiser). Get caffeinated imagining Lizzy singing "Get Drunk" and "Pawn Shop Blues" here while playing acoustic guitar.
Visit more venues where she performed in her early years. They're all listed in the Early Shows section. (Keep in mind that some venues have closed or moved since then. I've tried to list the original addresses in the show threads when possible, but I'm not sure it's 100% accurate.) Explore her Williamsburg stomping grounds at night listening to "Oh Say Can You See". Wander through alleys and look at the bars.

Visit the trailer park where she lived, Manhattan Mobile Home Park at 4828 Tonelle Ave. in North Bergen, New Jersey if it hasn't been demolished yet. (It doesn't appear to have been based on Google StreetView photos from December.) Take the Lincoln Tunnel which inspired the "tunnel lined with yellow lights" lyric in "Yayo" as you take yourself "from this dark trailer park life."

Definitely visit Coney Island. Walk down Mermaid and Neptune Avenues. Eat cotton candy and explore the boardwalk while listening to "Mermaid Motel". Ride the coasters and the Wonder Wheel. Stick your toes in the sand while listening to "Kill Kill". Lie in the ocean singing her song. Check out the aquarium before you go. Come back for the annual Mermaid Parade.

You might also consider traveling down the Jersey Shore to a couple similar boardwalk destinations, Seaside Heights, where I think she wrote "Trash Magic", and Wildwood, where one of her classic photo shoots was taken.

And if you're really hardcore, consider a road trip to beautiful Lake Placid, where she grew up.

If you do any of this please take pictures and post about it!

So she might start varying her setlist with unreleased tracks including some of my biggest faves once I decide she's not worth seeing live again for awhile?

That blonde hair on the AKA cover is clearly bleached. Plus it doesn't match her eyebrows or eyelashes at all.

Many people are born with blonde hair that darkens during childhood. I was born blonde and now I'm not.

She's changed her hair color so many times that I'm not sure if she's ever left it natural or undyed that we know of.

  7. fraises liked a post in a topic by evilentity in Lana to feature on Barrie's upcoming album!
For an artist as talented as Barrie, it must be frustrating to continue to live in the shadow of a more famous ex while simultaneously dealing with the break-up, that much of the interest in your music is based on music made with your ex, and to be inundated with messages more interested in your ex than you.

From what we've heard from his album so far, I get the sense that a lot of it was inspired by his relationship with Lana. And from what we've seen on his social media accounts, he doesn't seem to be handling the end of that relationship particularly well. It wouldn't surprise me-- and I wouldn't really blame him-- if he decided he no longer wanted to release "Riverside", or perhaps even the album at all, as it was originally conceived. Maybe "Hate" is more what he's feeling right now.

Absolute nobody? Maybe to someone who's only been around 5 minutes. She was only one of biggest influences on one of Lana's biggest idols (Kurt Cobain), not to mention alternative rock generally.

Hm. maybe if we weren’t living in a world where you’re more likely to get expelled for plagiarizing a paper than you are raping a girl in your dorm…. where rape is one of the hardest things to prove & rarely EVER persecuted…. where ideas about victims somehow being inherently guilty of something are not perpetuated...where rapists are not constantly being defended and excused…. yeah maybe if all that wasn’t going on, depicting rape in some eli roth styled trash wouldn’t be harmful. but in this day and age, do you really think it's good to be depicting rape as something sexy, with goofy slow mo shots of her hair whipping back like she's a model, nails digging into his arm (which could be a clip of any standard softcore porn), shit like that? its glamorization and hyper sexualization of a crime that is centered around control and degradation. a rape scene shouldn't be hot.

Seriously y'all need to chill about the whole Jim Morrison thing
It's not like it's gonna send the characters spiraling "Who is this Jim Morrison???" "What did he do???"and suddenly change to AHS: DIscovering Jim Morrison
It's really not that big of a deal. Just enjoy the show!

I hope its not SS, I like it but its so obvious.

Old Money wouldn't be a bad choice either for her character actually, if she uses the metaphor of ''Ill run to you'' as her wanting to be a star.

Young & Beautiful, although obvious, does sort of fit her character and is grand enough too, otherwise I'm thinking Born To Die or something.

To be honest though it could really be a lot of her songs because the show adapts that well. I doubt anyone thought we would be seeing Sister Jude singing 'The Name Game' In Asylum but it happened.

Ok, it took me some time to give my final judgement and the never ending comparisons to BTD & P. I may be not as eloquent as some posters here, but I will give it a shot.

Not that it really matters cause this place has become pretty dead, but hey...

Just like on BTD, we have some standouts on UV that strike me after a few listens: Shades of Cool, Brooklyn Baby and West Coast. I think these three tracks along with The Other Woman execute at the very best what she was going for with this album: a soft mood, sad but relaxed, laid-back record. Like portaying herself and her lovers from a distance, observing.

The sad thing about this album is that you can actually hear, that she really had trouble writing it and putting it all together. She has talked about it in several interviews that she had basically stopped writing, because she had nothing to write about, she felt numb and defeated by everything going on around her.
Some people on here and other places blame the production of Dan Auerbach, but the production is actually not the main issue here, it's Lana's songwriting and her lack of a vision for this album.
Something that also doesn't play into her cards is that with a rock and jazzy sound it is even more difficult to cover up  the lack of ideas in terms of songwriting. With hip hop beats, electronica and strings you can at least vaccum it in a nice way.
Regardless of the flaws on BTD, you could close your eyes and you had all the songs almost like a movie lined up in front of your eyes, playing and evolving. UV doesn't do that. It feels like she didn't know where to go with it.

Lana is still a sad potato, she still writes songs about the men she loves and how she will do anything to make their relationship work while wearing her red dress and being a mess and so on....
The problem is: we have all heard it before and it was pretty well executed, we don't need more semi-likeable versions of it like on Cruel World which draggs forever and Sad Girl or Pretty When You Cry. Lana just has not improved when structuring a song, not adding shifts and breaks (except for West Coast).

She has talked many times about how she always reads the same books & poems, watches the same movies and listens to the same music. I am just wondering how she has managed to write 200 and more songs while always being exposed to the same stuff. Maybe after this record, she should turn to something new & fresh.

What I miss is the actual fun in Lana's music. Despite an album called Born To Die, I could always sense some joy and even a sense of humour in her music during the most time. Only in Brooklyn Baby she manages to do it on UV. Songs like MPG and FMWUTTT are supposed to be sarcastic and powerful, but they sound uninspired, flat and unfinished.
If she wanted to be sarcastic & angry then turn it up, girl! Don't tone it down.

What also bugs me about this era is her complete absence of interesting visuals. Nobody can tell me that the videos so far have been great, not even the best one for SOC. She seems so desinterested and bored, you sometimes fear she will fall asleep to her own music in her own video.

This lack of vision, interest and care leaves us, the fans, wondering and unsatisfyied.

There will be always people on here who will say: OMG, she is an indie queen and she is rock now and so much more mature than before. Sadly, she is not. She has just chosen another direction for her music, which as I stated before doesn't really compliment her lack of ideas for this album.

I grew up listenting to Tori Amos and PJ Harvey. I know how great artists can make alternative music sound, how they work with song structures, never allowing the music to be predictable and flat and how much they care about different layers in their music.

Maybe she actually has found her sound on the previous record, not executed at the very best by Haynie for sure, but maybe it's something that suits her better than trying to be an artist she is not or simply lacks the musicality to get there.

She really needs to take the opportunity to re-master the album on CD so it doesn't sound like murky sludge

I mean, I know she probably has tinnitus, but girl, it could be a lot better ...
