Last night, Lana Del Rey stopped to meet Elle while shopping at Dillard’s in Huntsville, Alabama.
(yes, im aware there’s already a thread for this outing, but let me have my moment. & yes, I added a ton of the built-in IG filters to our selfie bc I had literally been sleeping in the car shortly before this and hadn’t touched up my makeup because I did NOT expect this to happen.)

I'll just leave her reaction to winning her first VMA here because it's priceless:

She's building her legacy. Honestly what we have from her is nothing compared to what the bigger picture will look like in 20 years. She's inspired by Marilyn because she is a timeless icon of fame, femininity and America, and Lana is aiming for that level of global recognition (she said Marilyn was as recognisable as Jesus), without the tragic ending. Lana had a beginning but she has no end -- see: Candy Necklace video.

So do we think the covers album is next? Or the country-esque one?

When I think of 'American classics and standards,' I don't think of 'Rocky Mountain High,' but I can see how Lana might, and it is an 'American classic.' But the music of the Seventies isn't generally considered 'American classic,' especially, like the music of the 60s, so much of it came from Britain.

'Standards,' to me, are songs like 'I'm a Fool To Want You,' 'Laura,' 'I've Got It Bad And That Ain't Good,' 'Skylark,' 'Love For Sale,' "Lilac Wine,' 'In The Wee Small Hours of the Morning,' etc. and there's literally hundreds or thousands of them.

If Lana is thinking of 'classics' in terms of the 60s and 70s (perhaps as well as earlier), I'd love to hear her take on the Beach Boys' 'Caroline, No' and Cat Stevens' 'Morning Has Broken,' my all-time favorite 70s song. What about Al Green's 'Love & Happiness'?

If the standards album is ever released, it's the one album I would like to be cohesive, not an album that contains 'Rocky Mountain High' (let's say) and 'My Funny Valentine' or 'When Your Lover Has Gone.'  I'd prefer it be older songs like 'Lilac Wine' and 'How Deep is the Ocean?", and then maybe a second, or a two-record album, with post-1960s songs.

I swear, if you can't see the seven worlds behind those eyes in this photo, you will never see them.
Also, the bow in her hair makes me contemplate the origins of good and evil.

This sums up her evolution throughout her career :
from heavy metal glam surf hawaii rock
to country folk elvis rock'n roll.

I always loved to see her with a guitar, but this time it's very stylish !
    What a serve !

In reading a lot of old articles about you, both with or without your participation, you seemed to have a lot of ideas projected onto you without a lot of room to respond. Was that your experience?
That made there be no room. I wonder if that’s why I’m allowed to have my moment. But I’ve heard some good stories about some of the writers that I did not like. One of them ran up their company card on prostitutes. I love that. It just goes to show you that it’s not personal. Sometimes, the things you read, there’s a little bit of projection there. That’s the only guy who I’ve ever remembered his full name, but I’m not going to say it.

I don't usually celebrate album birthdays, like all other things, because I consider birthdays to be for people, in order to remind them that life is a precious gift and that we must celebrate every moment of it.

That said, that doesn't stop me from telling all the good things I think about this album.
I didn't really liked it at first listen, but it has since grown so much on me.

No smashing hits here, it's more bluesy and jazzy. It's a slow album which tells a journey through Lana's tormented emotional life, the story of a young woman who tried everything to keep her love alive but finished on her own again.
The first track sets the pace. It's bittersweet.

My favorite songs are Honeymoon, Terrence Loves You, High by the beach, Freak, Salvatore (this one is special for me I don't know why) and The Blackest Day.
After all these beautiful songs, the closing track "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" is the perfect cover to conclude this wonderful album.

    Lana's masterpiece.

I personally love the two covers, as someone who loves American standards. Summertime is a haunting ballad really suit for Lanas voice. Don’t get all the hate on her covers.
    without Shades of Cool tho

if you don't count AKA and sirens, honeymoon is probably my favorite lana del rey album (although sometimes it's hard to even say that when ultraviolence and born to die exist, honestly it's just a testament to how amazing her discography is) honeymoon really is lana at her absolute best, it's breezy, oceanic, luscious, atmospheric, mysterious, haunting, floral, romantic, moody, yearning... so many fascinating and thought-provoking qualities all in one terrific album, not many people can craft a body of work that displays so many moods, feelings, emotions and vibes as effortlessly as honeymoon <3 happy 8th birthday!
