I know this is Norman discussion, but I'm kinda worried about the next album he he   Is Jack producing too?
I don't know why I don't like Norman so much. Folk, psychdelic or whatever are very appealing to me, idk what happened. I still listen to it, kind of forcing to make it grow in me   . I guess the closest and most relatable comment I found here is the lack of imagination one. I just can't visualize something entertaining in my head, even tho I really like the music.

I just wished I liked this album. I remember when Mariners came and then Venice and then HTD acoustic and Hope... I was so sure Norman would become my favorite back then...
I hope WHF brings back that "final push" each song has.

as much as I want to think this will be like Burnt Norton, because yes its the bestest, there is a BIG difference between T S ELIOT'S poems and lana's poems

most people find the style she used in national anthem/ ride / tropico to be unsettling or over the top

and now Lana is more and more like most people

she is moving towards the happy and simple. which isn't bad but it is distinct from her older stuff. mostly I think that Lana doesn't take things as seriously as she did when she was younger, when she was more idealistic and passionate about extreme artistic expression

I Stan the first 2 parts. the nfr part was my favorite visuals of the whole era. I feel like I understand and appreciate bartender a million times more. happiness is a butterfly.... best song worst video, the injustice is sickening..

lana was acting so teenagery, it was so cute to see but kind of bizarre for some reason

if I was not a fan and I saw these videos, id think Lana Del Rey is a girl band of Lana and those two dancers...

I don't like how I have to actively look away from the  eyes of that one dancer (idk which is which) to enjoy it though
also, incoming "Lana is so white privilege she's making videos about throwing food at cops and laughing, while dating one, when police brutality is...." I couldn't stop thinking about how lanaboards members were gonna be so pissed lol

Lana must really love that backup singer as a friend to keep her in the video despite her ummmm... strong facial expressions and body language

lana and one dancer are there being cute and girly and cool

and then the third girl is looking at everything like she's me aged 14 desperately trying to look aggressive and sexy for the first time but ummmm not being very subtle at all

idk, it's not as much ab what her aesthetic is as much as it is ab how it's executed.  Lana has always mixed styles that dont necessarily go together, but it worked a lot better in the past.

BTD: Old Hollywood glamour / hip hop tinges / 4th of July
Paradise: sepia western / road trip realness / California palm trees
UV: lost in suburbia / sad acid trip / old money Florida
HM: European vacation / cult vibes / 20s jazz
LFL: flower power / space explorers / techno-apocalypse / ruined peaches & black beaches

NFR is serving surfing & boats / piano balladry / Laurel Canyon teas / Walmart witchcraft / comic book style / neon green vibes / being too rich for the cops to apprehend you / wasting perfectly good sandwiches and slurpees

even LFL had a more beautiful style than NFR in my opinion.  I for one appreciated the 60s flower child vibe juxtaposed against space and technology even if i didn't really get the Hollywood sign thing.  it's not ab Old Hollywood, it's ab beautiful and meaningful style.  NFR is just kinda bland

This is so fucking cool. Who else is doing this? We have really watched her do a complete 360 and return to her folky roots and original inspirations over the past 8 years.

Controversial, I hope it's just her voice! It'll be heavenly for us to be able to mix them across lush instrumentals from Honeymoon and Ultraviolence.

the fact that lana will (99% probability) attend the grammys in a few short weeks and (might) show up looking like a goddess in gucci again...lit rally madness

Oh wow thats what I've been feeling about this album but couldn't put into words, thanks.

It definitely lacks the cinematic/mysterious vibes the other albums had, and it's funny how Jack said his intention was to leave some space for imagination when, for me, this is her most straight forward album. As you said, it's pretty straight forward so it doesn't leave much for you to figure out or a situation to create on your own mind.

But on the other hand I like this album because it doesn't require much thinking, if that makes sense? Lana herself said this is a mood album and I love to listen to it while doing nothing, it's a great album to listen while lying in bed staring at the ceiling lmao

The Doin Time video does match the story of the song imo. It’s about a cheating lover who makes the other person feel like they’re trapped in a prison, and the other person wants to “hold her head underwater”. That was presented pretty well in the video. She just put a fun twist on it where she’s a huge woman.

If I can “defend” Lana from some of the criticism...
This was filmed a year ago, and I don’t think she had any idea at all how praised the album would be at the time. Maybe she just wanted to film something cute and simple and asked her friends if they wanted to be in the videos with her.
And since this was filmed a year ago, I don’t know if we can criticize her for throwing food at cops (except that it’s such a waste of edible food) because she’s dating one now. They hadn’t met yet, but I’m glad she didn’t delete the scene just because she’s with a cop now.

But yeah, I still don’t know what to think of the music video.
