    You're definitely right

We did it for fun, we did it for free
I did it for you, you did it for me
We did it for the right reasons
    Yosemitee
With all of those statements, she literally deserves us a free online concert.
    Please Lana play for freeeeeee.

By the way, I didn't know this song but it sounds great and fits Lana perfectly.

I was a fan as a teenager.  I though I was the only one here to know this song
I used to think that if VB could actually sing she'd sound like Caroline Polacheck (see Charlift's  Ghost tonight and Cool as Fire).

Thank you ! Well to be honest, it's a very new perspective for me. But I read the lyrics of Don't Judge Me and an analysis of the video and all of a sudden it just made sense.
It's like letting go of a burden (the systematic critic) by approching art differently  If that makes sense
I think Lana would benefit from that perspective if it was generalized.

I agree. What the song is about is very important. Even if the song and video are very straighforward and simple, they are quite touching and of good quality. It is not the earthquake that was Cellophane, but I don't think that she doesn't care about her art anymore.

Didn't she do it for us ? Even if the song was dedicated to her lover at the time, I realize Cellophane could apply to the expectation that the song itself has created for FKA Twigs' career (full circle). Her oeuvre has been so increasingly poignant, impressive and avant garde that a good song is not enough anymore for the public (me included).

I think that it's healthy that she let her hair down for this album. Can you believe that she learned to master multiple new activities for this Magadalene, each especially for one music video (lapdance for cellophane and wushu for Sad day) ? She put her health in danger for the Spike Jones Apple commercial to prouve she could be perfect. As a person of color she's been feeling all her life that she had to be perfect in order to be accepted.   I remember her comment about high expectations, the fact that she felt she always had to be a Nubian Queen to be considered. In a way, this is perfectly linked with the theme of Don't judge me.

Personally I'm deciding now to accept what the artist has to give for what is is without comparison. I realize that otherwise, it's just toxic energy. Same will go for Lana. If the artist delivers a masterpiece every time, it's great. If She/he doesn't but the work is still good, then let's enjoy it. Don't you think ?  It's alway possible to go back to the masterpieces from time to time for comfort. Let's give them love either way, instead of hate and judgement of new work if it doesn't go our way

This whole comment is literally so well stated. I feel like I even understand her recent work further from you perspective. I think that’s such a healthy way of looking at the evolution of an artist.

I know what you mean but I think She’s just evolving. The meaning behind the song is so relevant and video is so beautifully created to express how black people have to try x10 harder than white people to even get a seat at the table. If she wasn’t interested in making music she would not have made a whole album over quarantine that’s gonna have lots of cute collaborations :p

Wouldn't it be easier to just listen to the interlude ?
It's funny how FKA Twigs' version has more lines from the rapper than the rapper's version while not having that much more Twigs in it. I'm fine with the rapping tough.  It gives a more concrete aspect to the meaning of the song.

Like most of you, I like the song but only as a standalone track. After de sacred masterpiece that was Magdalene, we can't expect an OK song (especially since it's not really new). I like it better on first listens than I did  Holy Terrain tough.

I swear Symphony in Blue with those lyrics is the most Lana Del Rey-Ish song released Pre-Lana Del Rey.
It gives me The Blakest Day vibes  :

The cycle is complete because on first listen, that Lana song made me think of Kate Bush in term of sound, especially the Going Deeper and Deeper part.

Rather die young by Beyonce is next, in terms of typical Lana lyrics.

Can you make it more LDRish ? These lyrics sound straigh out of BTD (Blue Jeans, Off to the races,...). I was wondering if it was just a copy / hommage to Lana but I'm not sure Blue Jeans was already out when the song was recorded, they were released pretty close to each other.

I’ve heard a lot of demos, there is no doubt that she’s ready to drop something. For that reason I don’t think we should be worried about when the album is coming... I’d be more concerned about the direction and sound of her upcoming project.
I’d like to hope that she will release an EP before an album, especially for her more ‘experimental’ style of work.
knowing our luck, all her hits will include rubbish features because that’s what the record labels think we want...........

Lana needs to cover this song. It's super melancholic and a perfect fit for Lana's aesthetic.

    I think she's very talented.
I absolutely adore Wounded Rhymes and the Mark Roson collab.  I think most of her other work has some great strength and as well as weaknesses.

    My ranking :

    1. Wounded Rhymes
I think it's an album that sounds really unique yet cohesive and accessible. I think she found her best balance here between Youth Novels' very pop and very experimental sound and breathy vocals, and I Never Learn's overdramatic sound and vocals.

    2. I Never Learn
I think that album is really emotional. I love it but I've got to be in the mood for it (sometimes the overdramatic sound, lyrics and vocals are too much for me. And that's coming from a Lana Del Rey fan.). My favorite track is Gunshot, it really strikes a chord. And I love how the music video was like a fuck you to the Peugeot commercial it was used for.

    3. Liv
I don't know what happened to that super band she formed with Andrew Wyatt and friends. I liked the indie sound and seemingly more careless creating process. They released no album and they didn't even bother collecting the 4 singles as an EP but in my mind it is some kind of Likke Li EP and Era.

    4. So Sad Sexy
I think that the sound worked a lot for some songs like the sophisticated Hard Rain that was really surprising and the emotional So Sad So Sexy . It gets tiring for more uninteresting songs like Jaguar in the air.
I think the tracklist and the album title sounds very Lana-ish. I mean So Sad So Sexy. It reminds me of seing the tracklist for Ultraviolence for the first time and thinking it was fake. Did anyone else get that feeling ?

    5. Youth Novels
This album was a real surprise when it got released. I think she struck me as a very unique pop artist. I think it gets complicated to listen to the whole album at once. Dance, Dance Dance is one of my favorite songs to sing along to and to dance to. It's so simple yet effective. And I love the fragility and childlike quality of her vocals here.

I need more listen to that new song to have a proper opinion.
