Tbh Chemtrails isn’t even as bad as everyone makes it out to be, if it had a better album cover and the era wasn’t traumatic, and you cut 2 tracks it’s perfect

The mention of Picasso makes sense, because her album is about colors, especially the color blue. Picasso is famous for his "blue period," so she's not really comparing herself to him, but wants to show that sadness played an important role in his artistic life. Being sad and singing about it can produce something beautiful. Also, as one of the most important singer-songwriters of our time, I think she has the right to make this comparison.

I'm honestly glad that none of the BTD outtakes made it onto the album. I can't image songs like Paris, You Can Be The Boss or even Serial Killer on the same album as songs like Off To The Races and the rest of the album for that matter. The only outtake I think could've fit in with the rest of the album is Paradise and even that's a stretch. I can see a final version of Hollywood's Dead fitting too, but I'd have to hear it to confirm that.

While I'm at it, I'm glad that most of Lana's outtakes didn't make their respective albums. I think a lot of them would've thrown the flow of the album off unless they were entirely reworked. However, Your Girl should've been on Ultraviolence.

Even though it has its flaws, I wouldn’t erase Lust for life at all. The last 4 tracks, especially Get Free, are career highlights.

I just wish the track list was edited, that’s all.

She is no longer the pop star of yesteryear, and I don't think she wants to be. Her focus is now on writing poetry, you have to pay more attention to her lyrics and that was already the case with Chemtrails.  BB was not quick, the core songs like Black Bathing Suit go back to early 2020. Like honey dew said she is now on another level.

Mary.. all of those things you list are just smoke and mirrors tactics that people with no real talent depend on to make you believe they're world class musicians. Lana is on another level now. Anyone with enough money behind them can make a chart topping song and wear designer in a high budget music video and people fall for it every time when really theyre just serving Mcdonalds music. Look what happened to Justin Bieber. If i heard Blue banisters playing over Kmart speakers I would k*** ******

Most of Lana's streams are coming from NFR and BTD (and BB right now) from the GP, so the reason why Honeymoon's streams are lower is because it really is mostly or even only fans streaming it  Honeymoon deserves so much better

I couldn't care less about Lana's tracklists being cohesive. If I like the songs, that's all that really matters to me. I think that's part of why I love Lust for Life despite so many people hating it

I think there is a tendency to equate complexity with masterful writing, and simplicity with amateurism but that is a fallacy. Simplicity can be powerful, and overwriting can obscure the soul of a work. I see a lot of the criticism of IYLDWM as falling into this trap. Is the chorus simple ? Yes. But, it is because that is all the song needs to say. Padding is bad writing. The verses paint a vivid picture and the chorus adds the necessary emotional context to understand the picture. Using a lot of big words does not make meaning profound. If you are discussing the profound it will bleed through the words whether your style is simple or complex, and Lana, well is vast and contains multitudes.

I personally still find her lyrics to be relatable despite them becoming more personal. I don't think relatable has to mean "omg it's me she's singing about!" but instead being able to relate to the emotion behind it.

I also don't want/need to be able to insert myself into all art. One of the best things about good storytelling is exploring that world and discovering the little details and connections to uncover a deeper meaning, that you can then apply to your own life and learn from if you choose to. As Lana's writing becomes increasingly personal, she's inviting us to dive even deeper into her life and discover things about her, that also reflect her observations of the world at large, and for me at least it makes her consistently thrilling to listen to.

Apparently this is unpopular now, but the singles from Blue Banisters are some of the best tracks she's ever released. Ethereal and sublime.

    as well as...

"the sway of the hips & arms
    will cradle you from afar
    they swing 'till you're tired
    and send you to mars
    nighttime is almost ours"

i completely cherish this work of art... <3

    The headlights from passing cars
    They illuminate my face, and
    Leave me in the dark
    The voice of Nirvana says
    "Come as you are"
    And I will
The night time is almost ours

One of Lana's most haunting and evocative lyrics.

Oh Say Can You See is a masterpiece, and I can see it being placed on Blue Banisters, right between Nectar of the Gods and Living Legend.

I just know Potato Fanta says mad shit about Lana like he's stuck in 2012 where it was the national sport for music writers to shit on Lana Del Rey.

On a more serious note, this guy just fundamentally does not understand Lana as an artist. He sorta became a fan of Lana overnight when she released 'NFR!' AKA her most digestible album (like most sycophant music writers have) and has been acting like it's the blueprint of her album ever since, but that's beside the point—this review was just seriously ridiculous. Mind you, this is the man that rated 'Born To Die' a 3/10 and 'Ultraviolence' a 2/10.

He's literally only taken "seriously" because, for some obscure reason, he's like the only semi-famous music critic on YouTube?

i feel like if any other alternative female artist experimented like lana did with this album, with polarizing vocal styles, tempo-changes, "scream" vocals, & confessional, thought-provoking lyrics, etc. they would receive praise & acclaim, but when lana does anything that's not in the perfect little nfr "she's changed & she's happier now!" box she gets draggd & laughed at, people really need to forget about the lana del rey "image" which she was perceived as in 2011 and see her as the person & artist she actually is

It’s actually mind-boggling to me how no critic has even bothered to look into the layers and layers of the lyrics. Like, I have read the reviews, and even in the positive ones (which I am not complaining about at all) each journalist offers such a shallow, surface level interpretation of the lyrics, with some critics making a laughing stock out of her. And when someone backhandedly  and condescendingly mentions, “oh! This is Lana Del Rey telling her story,” it’s funny that they — someone with the privilege and esteemed-intellect worthy of a platform to write critically about music — still cannot get it. Somehow, Lana’s unrelated “controversies” can be woven into reviews, but context clues she’s littered graciously about the album to help piece its hidden narrative together are nowhere to be found. Tragic!

tbh if ANYONE else put out PMIAM they would be hailed as brave and revolutionary bc its so obv satire ab past trauma but bc its her, ya she would get torn to shreds. ppl never gave her the benefit of the doubt when she wrote "provocative" lyrics which is so sad bc a lot of the things she's been criticized for sharing obviously come from a place of past suffering and pain.

There’s nothing too exciting about a simple life with a child in a backyard and yet here you are in a fansite of hers. Do you enjoy being a contrarian just for the sake of being? How can you even fathom the idea that the songs in these past 3 records aren’t complex just because it doesn’t suit your Lolita fantasies? How can you say she’s not experimenting with her sound when you have TB, Dealer and BBS as prime examples of an experimentation within her own sound? At this point you’re just babbling things that make virtually no sense. Just say you’re not as interested in the themes she’s exploring and move on?
