I’m pretty sure she is bipolar. It runs in my family. I have it. This is part of the reason why I relate to her so much.

My father is bipolar and he was physically abused by his grandmother. He was also abused (corporal punishment) in Catholic school as a kid. He developed a drinking problem at a young age. Lana also developed a drinking problem at a young age.

Certainly a Bob Dylan reference. His work has had a huge impact on Lana.

This is really a brilliant work of art. I'm going to need to listen to it again several more times, read the words several more time because you need to do that with poetry in order to interpret the deeper meanings. We all know that Lana is a very deep person obviously so there is a lot to take in here.

But congrats to Lana on a job well done. Shout out to Jack Antanoff too!!

So this is the ultimate rebuttal of everything America has become under Trump. We have a President who denies climate change and does not even try to unite the country.

Lana sees America has being fragile. We think of our nation as strong, but we are only one incompetent leader away from being a mess which is certainly the case now.

Lana sees what is really going on. She can speak out about it but if she doesn’t then Trump prevails plus Lana ends up in the psychiatric ward. Kind of reminds me of when Lana called out Kanye for backing Trump. She said that a Trump winning was a loss for the country but active support for him was a loss for the culture.

Lana believes in an America that lives up to its promise.

Then there are the biblical references about Adam and Eve; when we take and take, we destroy the paradise that we can have.

All in all, Lana is challenging Trump’s populism and this culture of greed that has been holding society back.

I may never know that either until I'm dead“

Been thinking about this part. So many people come to LA expecting magic to happen. The thing is you make your own luck in LA. So many people move to LA thinking the city will solve all their personal problems that they bring with them. Lana says that she won’t know her true legacy until she is dead. No artist ever finds out their true legacy because your legacy isn’t written when your alive. So this is very powerful.

I bet some other artists (probably not Taylor or Billie though) will try doing this. But none will do it like Lana.

Lana flying a plane... being an airplane nerd myself I can see Lana pulling back too hard on the yolk! But that’s okay because Lana is a poet and I know airplanes!

5150 line hits a bit too close 2 home lolll, I like this one though. feels like she's either finally understanding or finally showing that she understands that her little aesthetic was a dream. "her" America was a dream. paradise is coming crashing down, it is literally burning to the ground for her. where is she to go, an orphan without a home? an orphan without the strong redwood trees to stabilize her. an orphan with an ocean that was once a place of peace, littered with trash. her world is falling apart. the curtain is pushed back, the blindfold is off. she has to wake up to what is happening and what has been happening and what she has been ignorant to. beautiful poem

i'm really impressed. i was pretty ambivalent to the idea of a poetry book (still am tbh) BUT i'm so in love with lana so i went with it. and i'm glad i did. very well written, much more raw than anything i was expecting. a lot of it feels just like she's talking.

what i appreciate about this work (and the majority of her discography) is that there isn't necessarily a big thesis or storyline to it. she just kind of dwells in her own headspace, and takes us along with her. she's just in it, she's just there. they're just snapshots of how she feels, what she thinks about. there is no obvious "point" to it, it's just kind of a collage of her emotions. and that's more real than any "concept" or "storyline."

the trauma of her past hangs heavily over this project. this is a woman torn between her past and her future. she is haunted by a series of abusive and broken relationships, and trying to find out who she is in the wake of them. she tries new things, she goes new places, but she is inexplicably drawn back to old habits and bad memories. she's lost, not quite unhappy but still unfulfilled. she doesn't necessarily miss her past, but she can't help but think about it often. this is mostly (at least the lens i looked at it thru) a piece about recovering from your past and looking for your future. hope is a dangerous thing for a woman with her past, but she has it.

    really blown away

You said all the right words, I couldn't agree more. It really is tragically authentic. And on top of the way her writing has magic to it, these pieces are far longer and much more extensive than any lyrics of hers have been, so it really does offer a much more transparent and vulnerable understanding of the person she is. This really spoke so much to me. I also felt understood, I'm sure so many have while listening. I'm so glad she went ahead with this medium. And thank you again for originally helping to piece these lyrics together!

I know many of us didn't really sleep lol, but now we can die sleep peacefully to this

OMG I am truly floored. Just listened twice.

Absolute masterpiece of atmosphere and storytelling. I'm pretty much speechless tbh what a compelling and unique journey she's put together, I'm so proud of her. The payoff of the last two tracks is so amazing and I am left completely unnerved by the ending. I think this definitely gives us an idea of the direction she's going with Chemtrails and also Behind the Iron Gates.

I don’t think she’ll ever move back to New York. She is one of those people who keeps moving forwards rather than backwards. I know she lives in LA now but I have no idea where in LA she lives. She’ll spend the rest of her life in Southern California.
