I feel personally attacked by this.

    No I agree wholeheartedly
Also, lots of lyrics are worded very awkwardly. "In the month of mid July" was the beginning and now we've arrived at "run your hands over me like a Land Rover"
I know what she's trying to say but it's expressed so awkwardly that I think it makes it sound like a Land Rover has hands that run over people. Bad attempt at expressing that metaphor imo
I haven't found any of her lyrics to be particularly brilliant lately. Insightful maybe, but not cleverly crafted. Wildfire is probably the best of the four lyrically
Her lyrics used to be very nuanced and filled with subtle messages that you had to really contemplate and Arcadia's lyrics are so simplistic and transparent that they almost sound like they belong in a song by The Wiggles explaining the circulatory system to 4 year olds

out of all her albums, honeymoon has the greatest replay value

It just has the vibe of her and Charlie fucking around and that's not wrong per se, but it doesn't suit the song at all.
She utilises her friends and family in her professional life too much and undermines her work imo
    Time and place

The Arcadia music video is a complete trash. We like it because it's from Lana, but it's terrible. The visual effects make it worse and she really needed to stick her tongue and show the middle finger twice?

At least the song is better than LMLLAW

It’s probably best for her musically too. I don’t vibe with her lyrics when they’re about things that social media has caused, e.g. writing about the media misunderstanding her, using internet slang or virtue signalling due to hate, etc…

When she was talking about her revenge and the end clips of Arcadia video, I thought the whole “I don’t give a fuck” thing was her protesting a bit too much. I don’t think she has that attitude deep down. I think she gives too much of a fuck hence why a lot of her lyrics now revolve around the public’s perception of her.

Hopefully, she can learn to be unbothered by the masses now that she’s out of the public eye. It must absolutely destroy someone’s mental health

her best opening track ever. there is nothing like when the song starts and she's just

"I SHARED MY BODY AND MY MIND WITH YOU...."

This. Personally, I’d add that I feel like she’s not all there anymore. It’s very interesting to me because her lyrics seem to be more soul-baring than ever albeit in a diary-entry level, and not the unique self-expression she’s known for. I guess she’s all tired of it and just puts it out there now, trying to explain herself in the most « authentic » (according to herself, I think) manner, and if it works for her, it’s all good but it falls a bit flat for me. Overall, it’s interesting to see her change over the years.

I feel like being even more unpopular than usual, so:
I have been contemplating Costco why she left socials and I actually think it has less to do with the media/hate than it does with burnout in relation to her art.
In actuality, it's likely that the former exacerbated the latter. I know she's doing two albums but one is covers and the other is basically half old concepts.
Idk if it's writer's block exactly. I think she might be finding herself not enjoying the process anymore, which in turn would lead to a downturn in creativity. I hope no one interprets this as a personal insult towards her because it's not. Many brilliant people can suffer burnout.
And so by removing herself from socials and by extension, her fans and all of the pressures associated with releases and keeping up appearances, she's probably hoping to simplify and find her way again.
And maybe when she said she's leaving to seek transparency she means getting in touch with her own feelings and being honest with herself instead of trying to be and do what other people want, which she has seemed more prone to do the past couple of years.

I think it's sad that Blue Banisters will be her first album without a 5 star title track.
BTD, UV, Honeymoon, LFL, NFR and COCC's title tracks were all among the best tracks on their respective albums. Frankly, I'd put Blue Banisters at the bottom of the four songs we have for that album rn and I'd definitely expect - and hope - that other songs on the album would surpass it, too.
ETA: Also, given that AKA didn't have a title track, I think she should put one on her next album to make up for it
The power that a song called "Lana Del Ray AKA Lizzy Grant" could have

Okay but this just doesn't make sense to me. Can you please elaborate as to why you feel this way?
IMO, what makes Honeymoon so good is that it's such a classic mood album. The entire album has this vibe that's like ... idk how to articulate. It just reminds me of those days in the summer that are so hot that they make you feel tired in the afternoon, but in a peaceful, happy way. I love it so much. And then it's just really cinematic and vibrant, too.

Still love her forever and her music remains my favorite.. nothing she releases is bad to me.. but this is the truth. I'm just thankful we even have BTD-Honeymoon because clearly it was life changing for us. I'm so happy she continues to make music though. There's some amazing songs on LFL NFR & COCC but she really started out so strong and so unique there's just no way she can match or top it. There's not a single song id remove from her discography, its all important but I would be just as satisfied and happy if all we ever got was BTD-Honeymoon.. it was just SO good.

I don’t think she’ll ever meet the standard of BTD, UV and HM again

it's still objectively better than '...you trace with your fingertips like a Toyota, run your hands over me like a Land Rover'

some of her new songs are becoming too wordy for me. she's a great songwriter and i acknowledge how much she's improved (though she's always been great) but sometimes it feels like she's putting too much together and it breaks the flow of the melody.

for instance "all roads that lead to you as integral to me as arteries, that pump the blood that flows straight to the heart of me" is beautiful, but it doesn't run very well

To me, Lana’s songs aren’t really sad or depressing the way people make them seem. They are thoughtful and contemplative, and they definitely elicit an emotional listening response, but I think everyone conflates sadness and reflection. I’m never put into a “depressive mood” when I listen to Lana — if anything, I feel uplifted and understood!

    THANK YOU!

    That's an actual unpopular opinion.

I know people will go to length to say that the AKA version is superior (even though it's great). The Paradise version of Yayo is the best. It's eerie and hauntingly beautiful.
  22. Lemonade Tea liked a post in a topic by Flowerbomb in Unpopular Lana Opinions
Yayo Paradise is definitely the best version of the song we have and here's why:

Okay so I know many people don't favour this one, however, I feel Lana really captures the ethereal essence of the meaning of the song as well as the sound. Her voice is mimicking the lyrics "You are a tunnel lined with yellow lights on a dark night" - The Paradise vocals truly capture the sound of Lana's reverbed vocals being in that yellow lit tunnel. Her voice is travelling all the way through that long tunnel and out the other end, hence why her enunciation is slow, unclear and reverberating on the Paradise version. This is quite clever, and although it may not have been planned, it certainly adds to the realistic charm of the song and the melancholic feel Lana is going for. Her wailing vocals are mimicking cries. They raise harshly ever so slightly, almost in a wailing manner (such as the way she sings "ink bluuuuue" and "you have to take me riggghhht now"), and then softly descend into a quiet tone on the end of each sentence. You hear that pain in her voice, but the pain is subtle. It's modest.

The piano is gentle, sweet, and reminiscent of 1960's romance scene. It's simplistic yet tastefully different. There's not an awful lot of complexity, but it's just enough to pull you in like a silk rope and make you melt into a sea of feathers. It has a girlish charm to it, and the music box/xylophone instrument that harmonize with the piano adds to this quality. That's something the AKA version lacks in my personal opinion.

Why people say the Paradise version is overproduced, I'll never know. The instruments and vocals are rich and clear, but that doesn't equate to overproduction. This is a very important thing to remember when evaluating music, and I feel like people get this mixed up far too much.

This isn't to say the AKA version is bad, but to me it's just a more rugged/dirtier version of the song. It has nice synths and strings (which make it feel full and grand without being overly pretentious), and the echo of her singing "dark niiiggght" is an amazing touch, but personally Paradise Yayo will always come out on top for the reasons above.

Above all, I don't like the compare AKA and Paradise Yayo too much. They're both great songs in their own right, however given the meaning behind the song, I feel like the Paradise production does it more justice and goes wonderfully on the Paradise EP.
