Barrie claims (through his It's Barrie James Spotify playlist) that he co-wrote Black Beauty so I doubt they'd write about an ex of hers together tbh.
I think it was both of them celebrating their broken perception of the world and how there's no one else for each of them but the other.

I don't think she was ever a stripper, she was just using a certain imagery that she liked & elements that would potentially fit the whole white trailer trash phase she had

California HAS to be about Barrie. It's sure as hell not about Francesco (the lyrics just don't make sense, and considering how they ended, I highly doubt she feels that much compassion towards him). I don't think anyone else from Lana's past is in the realm of possibility, unless she managed to keep it super private. I genuinely hope she and Barrie work it out; I actually really liked them together and she always looked so happy in the Summer Wine video. 

And Happiness is a Firefly Butterfly is likely about an assortment of dudes; she said today that it's about not chasing people. We know she and Chase have broke up a few times because she's been spotted with other dudes in between, and one of her charming friends leaked that story about the relationship being stormy to Radar Online.

California is definitely about Barrie. You could tell by her face she was deciding what to say ... and in the end went with an answer vague enough to answer the question whilst still leaving some uncertainty.

  Barrie is from Scotland. Most people from the UK aren't acclimatised to warm weather, so him "hating the heat" makes sense.
  The song contains UV references ("Flipside" for example) - she wrote UV while she was with Barrie
  "If you come back to California" - so the person has at least BEEN to California, but more likely, they lived there at some point. Barrie.
 
And today she said "he's still in London". Barrie is from Glasgow, Scotland, but he definitely has lived in London and he goes there a lot; I've seen stuff on his insta stories. He may even be recording his album there.

Well, authors, songwriters, poets, or whatever actually do write using the first person perspective and the texts are not about their personal life. So I still think that lines in songs can be about other people - using first person perspective. And I didn't say that the whole song is not about her because I do believe the verses are defo about her. In the lyrics she also adresses someone else:

At last it was just a thought that came to me reading the interview.

Im an MMA fan and know of him, the whole part about him fits him. Even the "getting high as they fight" it's really common for MMA fighters to get high before training particularly when doing jiu-jitsu, Joe Schilling and people he trains with are big into smoking weed.
 
The parts "moves mountains and" was I think a sneaky way of Lana putting MMA into the song and the part about "pounds them to ground", Ground & Pound is a big part of MMA - something Joe is actually bad at as he was a kickboxer used to stand up fighting and was quite poor on the ground and at jiu-jitsu.

So, I know it’s not my place to say Lana should get back with him, but I always thought they seemed so adorable together.

I mean it's very likely she's supporting Chase financially, too ... he has only ever done like two movies and in one of them he literally said one word.
 
She's pretty much always going to be the more famous, richer person in the relationship ... unless she dates someone else who is very high profile, and if so, the pool is much smaller. So on her end she's probably accepted that she's paying for all the shit.
 
She didn't pay for Barrie's album, though, but maybe he won't let her . (I'm not saying she should, before anyone jumps in)

Also, it actually sounds like she's talking about Josh. They dated when they were young but there was also photos of them later, like roughly 2011 or so?

Do we know for sure that Barrie and Lana knew each other before VG? This is the one part that doesn't fit... sounds to me like he's seen Lana for the first time in the music video.
