wow they're pissed at OP lolol,
but idk-  I think there is an interesting discussion that could be had about the whole Jack situation if everyone just calmed down a bit.
I can see good points from both sides tbh

Full agree about not exaggerating it. Being the type of stream-of-consciousness track that it is, with the lyrics very likely being composed spontaneously or semi-spontaneously using a mic, it has all the 'imperfections' (if you'll excuse the term) one would expect from a non-traditionally-composed song. I thought Rayland Baxter did a much better job with a similar kind of 'deconstructed' track on the title song of 'If I Were A Butterfly' and 'Thunder Sound' from the same album.

There is a general tendency for Stans to exaggerate with almost every new release of Lana's, especially those from her own forthcoming albums (and less so for songs like 'Watercolor Eyes'). Sometimes people go crazy over a new track not only because it's been widely anticipated, but because it's completely, or very, different than what the artist has done before, but 'doing something new' doesn't necessarily equate with 'something great' or even 'something good' with any musician or songwriter.

The song has already been added on the AU & NZ New Music Friday playlist.

why does anything less than a totally positive reaction to the song have to be considered nitpicking & meaningless discourse tho

personally i find it interesting/ refreshing  to see some diff perspectives than “‘magnum opus” “best thing since VB” etc

    let the ppl speak!!!!!!!

If we could stop generalizing others, putting people into categories, and letting others enjoy or critique music without labelling, we all would get along much more. Are there people who tend to instantly fall in love with new Lana music? Yes. That doesn't mean they haven't been critical towards Lana's music or aren't being objective. Vice versa! Not everyone is being edgy if they share a valid critique about a song. However, we all should work on being less judgmental towards other people's perceptions about music. It puts other people on this forum on defense mode and it leads to pointless fighting and chaos. Just because a song doesn't resonate with you lyrically, doesn't mean people are blinded by the hype. And like I said, vice versa; just because you really love a song, doesn't mean the track should be immune from criticism. We all should work on expressing our own thoughts and opinions on the music, and stop worrying about other people and putting them into unfair categories that creates wars of ego. End rant.

I agree completely. Some people are more likely to react emotionally to a song, or a new track, while others react analytically, and someone who reacts analytically today may react emotionally to a new track next week or next month. All views and opinions civilly expressed should be tolerated.

As I've said before, the only Lana song that ever brought me to tears is 'Old Money,' and years after I first heard it, when an incident in my life made several of the lyrics resonate. But here, I see members saying they're "sobbing," crying, or "tearing up" fairly frequently. That is an honest account of their reaction. We all have different personalities, strengths, experiences, backgrounds, talents, etc., so finding a wide variety of response here seems like the expected norm, just as we find that wide variety and diversity around us in our own lives.

Exactly. It gets exhausting to see all of the ad hominem and condescending posts over other people's genuine reactions to songs. Some people  might be hyperbolic, others might be way too negative, but instead of calling attention to that by attacking them or labelling them into a certain category, we all should just let bygones by bygones.

i agree that a lot of us have a ‘recency bias’ when it comes to lana’s new releases, but literally who cares 😭 while i think some people are definitely exaggerating, does it matter? we’re all supporting lana, this is a lana forum

of course any discussion on anything should be conducted in a mature, respectful matter- goes without saying.

why wouldn’t critiques on Jack or producers in general be valid though, if critiques on the song are ?
production is a obv a HUGE & important part of what makes up a song.. production IS the song too…(and can make or break it in some cases)  it’s not exactly “frivolous” imo, it goes hand in hand with the lyrics / singing.

    People still fighting?
I mean, we got an incredible photoshoot and a new single many, many of us love… (haven’t read anything in the last pages though to know what the fight is about )

Some takes in the last few pages...there's literally no way Lana's fanbase will forget A&W when it's not new and shiny. It sounds like it could be an underrated cult classic with less streams than some of her catchier pop songs and even then this song slayed on Spotify in the first days.

wait for it to become a certified smash and people turning on it to be edgy including Lana

The new twitter TL infuriates me cause I have to constantly see awful takes about Lana and the album from people that I don't even follow
Then when the album gets released I'll have to see meltdowns when they expect the whole album to sound like Jimmy and it doesn't

Don’t know if it’s been discussed before as the site was crashed for me but lots of people say that jimmy is jim from uv and I don’t really agree with that. Jack called Lana jimmy on a previous insta post and Lana singing about a younger lizzy seems to make the most sense to me. First of all jim from uv is literally a cult leader so it wouldn’t make sense when her mom finds out he’s doing drugs☠️ he is scarier than that. But if jimmy is Lana and Patricia founds out lizzy is doing drugs it would tie the boarding school era of her and also why she’s fucking up big time.

I’m not sure what’s the discussion about Jack I ain’t reading five pages but he’s production really sounds the same all the time. I mean the drums from chemtrails make their return on dyk and the beats on A&w sounds just like cinnamon. You can tell a Jack song by some key instruments and that sucks. Also his beats sounds just like a teenager making music on GarageBand. I mean just compare his beats to summer bummer. As much as I love this song, I love it because of the structure, story and lyrics and i wish it was produced by someone different because when I hear those tiny sounding beats I can’t help but lost all my hype on Lana’s amazing vision and artistry.

I was pro Jack back on nfr because he really does know how to compose a song but on the other hand his production… he was fine for an album but the more I hear his sound I get more annoyed at it.

    exactly

plus, one of the things I love about Lana’s more recent music is how unpolished/raw it can be (and still sound good). Studio chatter left in, sounds of drumsticks being put down, laughing, sneezing, vape puffs… it’s just fun. When it sounds this good and works this well, it doesn’t have to be super polished. All the background noise and sound in A&W is really enjoyable and intentional , if you ask me.

Because this is LanaBoards.com and any discussion not praising Lana or Jack is deemed as hateful, repetitive and annoying, despite these sorts of discussions being just as valid as any other discussions.

Now, don't confuse me for someone that has something negative to say about A&W, because I think it's a fantastic song, with a great production and a quite unusual and refreshing sound for Lana. But I'm so fucking over people glossing over discussions and getting in their feelings when other fans have something slightly negative, or critical, to say--which goes against the general love blanket and makes you feel like you have to watch every damn word you say on a discussion board.
