I never said it's a fact.... It's just, like, my opinion.

I completely love and respect the fact that y'all like it. But it seems to be that there are no memorable songs on it, and that we won't have another Love or Video Games on our hands with this album. I'd be hard pressed to add any of the tracks  on BB to a LDR best off. None of the songs, except maybe Black Bathing Suit, carry any weight in terms of her discography, which was far more adventurous and memorable on her past records, including Chemtrails.

But again, this is just one opinion, guys... Why get your panties in a knot? If you're that sure the album is banging, you won't care about what I have to say, right? Just enjoy the record. Love to all (from someone who - remember - has every right in the world to DISLIKE the record, as much as you like it). Peace

All of the songs that he listed are some of the brilliant songs that got us into loving Lana in the first place, none of the songs on Blue Banisters are what make us fans of her, anyone who’s listening to Blue Banisters was already a fan previously which of course is only because its a couple days old but highly doubt any new listeners who will be listening to Lana for the first time with Blue Banisters will be revisiting her discography

the album is absolutely not cohesive, its a collection of songs and its very obvious with a couple of songs that they were recorded at very different times than the rest of the record

everybody's entitled to their own opinions, but it would be foolish to say that somebody's not a true fan because they like the album, or try to say that it's a flop or a bad album because of how well it's doing in the charts/streaming, honestly this might be my least-favorite ldr album at the moment  however, i can easily recognize & see that so many people love & adore this album, so many people feel a special & emotional connection to the songs from this album, and the album isn't doing that bad regarding charts/streaming, it seems like dealer is going a little viral on tiktok!  i would never say somebody is a "fake fan" or anything like that because they love the album just because i have issues with it, we all have unique opinions & tastes, which is the beauty of this forum, some people really love her past work, some people are really digging her recent albums, some people really love it all, and even if you strongly prefer her first few albums, that doesn't mean you still can't enjoy them, even if you aren't a big fan of her recent work, as we all know, my favorite era is the "lizzy grant" era, and obviously that era is a long time ago and it's still very vague & mysterious, and obviously lana's musical style is very different than it was in 2007-2010, but i can still enjoy the music, the aesthetic, & the songwriting, it's okay to not like something, but please be mindful of others who do, saying somebody is a "fake fan" because they enjoy the album doesn't make any sense

literally one of her worst songs, its so repetitive, the melody where shes like “all road that lead to you as integral to me as arteries” she just uses over and over and over again, “I can't sleep at home tonight, send me a Hilton Hotel”, “They built me up three hundred feet tall just to tear me down” , “I'm leavin' them as I was, five foot eight”

Many users have stated time and time again that they wish Lana made songs like she used to. The user I was referring to reinforced that.

I was lukewarm to Lana using old songs as well until I heard them in the project the way she intended us to. With all due respect but simply saying that she’s “lazy” or “unimaginative” because she’s readapting old songs (which leaks she had no autonomy over - what in and of itself doesn’t make it a RE-USE as you said) is just looking at this project through very strained and close minded goggles.

I can’t imagine a previous project of hers being able to fit in Cherry Blossom and Living Legend within their narratives and concepts for instance. Both songs are so intricately tied to the themes of motherhood through very different meanings and perspectives - considering this is the very first project of hers in which she openly talks about her difficult relationship with her mother and the overall impact her family ties have had in her own perception of intimacy building and how the failures of her romantic relationships are intimately tied with her own upbringing, I’d say this is the first time CB and LL (for example) actually make any sense being included in a LDR album; CB is a lullaby to an imaginary child and LL is an homage to her surrogate mother… which then flows right into SC which itself is a direct reassurance towards her sister who’s about to become a mother herself: these three songs in succession being positioned at the back half of an album that gently delves into the toxicity and abandonment of her own strained relationship with her biological mother figure is a good enough reason for those songs to be included. It’s not just going to a vault and picking up whatever demos she thinks are cool enough to be released - there’s a distinct narrative purpose that is very new in her discography and it makes perfect sense that she would feel like those songs found a home in the vision she wants to share with the world.

With that said, I don’t want to keep trying to explain whatever concept or narrative reside within this album. Either you get it/relate to it/appreciate it or you don’t and that’s fine. What I think it’s unfair is to try and extrapolate general conclusions about what’s a real fan or not based on individual responses and opinions towards Blue Banisters. I know you weren’t the one who started out this conversation but you intervened and here we are.

Where did I say that her those albums were cohesive, I said that THIS album is not cohesive, unless your definition of cohesive is different than the dictionary one that I go by, then how can you can consider Thunder and Dealer being on the same album as Arcadia and Sweet Caroline cohesive??? Its obvious they were recorded at different times because they were, not only sonically but lyrically cherry blossom, living legend and necter of the gods are thematically entirely different than the rest of the record???

Also improve your reading comprehension skills, I was merely making the point that NEW listeners which doesnt include you would PROBABLY not DEFINITELY, not be revisiting Lana’s discography if the first they’ve ever heard of her was this album

This album relies HEAVILY on already being familiar with Lana “by the way thanks for the hate I’ll pray for ya”, the references to her daddy issues etc, and these references would go over peoples head if they weren’t already a listener

Haha. Glad you agree the reviews are ott.

In my opinion, those who rate this album super high aren't really true fans. Because they would know that songs on this record are a far cry from tracks like Ride, Blue Jeans, West Coast, Young & Beautiful, Venice Bitch, White Dress etc. on almost every level.

A few years down the line, no one will remember any of the tracks off it, the public will have ignored it in its entirety, and it will end up amongst her lowest ranked on Spotify and other streaming platforms, right alongside Honeymoon and Chemtrails.

Lana is one of the most streamed female artists ever, up there with Taylor, Ariana, Rihanna, and with more streams per album than Miley, Katy Perry, Beyonce, Selena and many other “big” female artists

At 25k projected sales Blue banisters will have the lowest first week sales than the lowest selling albums from each of those artists, this is lower than Smile and Younger now which were also considered horrific commercial failures

All of Lana’s other albums have reached more than a billion streams and (depending on the news source), have had opening week sales of more than 100k including Chemtrails

This album sales are horrific, she’s sold more albums than Nicki Minaj, Lorde, Dua, Billie, and almost all the female artists that premiered in the 2010’s, (except adele) and still managed to have the lowest selling album of all of them

I’ve always thought it was kinda cringey when artists release “sad” albums and promote the album like they’ll be on the Ellen show and be like “Hey come listen to to my album where I talk about my suicide attempt and crippling depression and my abusive boyfriend, out on Friday! “ and then parade it for being authentic and whatever in an attempt to sell this idea that this new album they have out is the realest version of them and that everyone should listen to it. And i feel like w this album the entire lack of promotion might have been because Lana might’ve felt it would be inappropriate for her or like just weird to be like “hey guys go listen to my new singles where I talk shit about my mom and be sure to buy my album where I scream about not wanting to live”

Or it could also just be that she’s lazy

    just a thought

oh also on future albums can we start having a separate thread just to discuss sales & streams ? it feels like whenever anyone brings up sales in the post-release thread they just get jumped on bc “Lana doesn’t care about sales !!” but it’s not even about that , a lot of us are v into pop culture and find it fun to be tracking sales & streams and are interested in that kind of info . So it’d be nice to have a separate thread for it where it can be purely sales & streams & charts talk

She gunna see everyone begging to make dealer or thunder a single then do the opposite and pick another boring song like beautiful as a single and then stream its only live performance on igtv on her instagram that the majority of the fanbase doesn’t have access to and we’ll have to watch on shitty youtube uploads and snippets of on tiktok

It's honestly just a pity party and I cannot get past the lines with the cars
Although we all know what she means, the way those lyrics are worded just doesn't make sense to me
    Of course it's her favourite

I honestly feel like I'm the only one that finds 'Arcadia' to be insufferable. From the first time she teased it I was enthralled with the opening line, but the song as a whole now...

every album since Lust For Life is more of a mixtape/collection of songs than an actual album and they all seem somewhat unfinished

Based on what I heard from people who don't worship everything she releases, Lana definitely values quantity over quality. She really feels the need to release an album every year full of mediocre songs and a couple of decent ones instead of wanting to wait a couple of years until she has a spark of inspiration. She started from having no skips in BTD, UV and HM, to having a couple of in LFL and since then she has more and more skips and the songs being background noise. I don't have the leaked songs but I feel like half of the album will be skips. I look forward because it's Lana but I don't have high expectations. I wish she experimented with higher tempos or more upbeat songs.

We've talked about it in here before but she really does need to stop with these diary-like lyrics. Enough.
Ever since VBBOTG, it's as if she thinks that every single word in her diary is so fantastic that needs to be bestowed upon the world in the form of a song or poem. As I've said before, there's no filtering, and there's also no development of thoughts.
I also don't understand the people who say such lyrics are relatable. I go swimming in my friends' pools too but I don't listen to Blue Banisters and tear up because Jenny swam in Lana's pool.
Her lyrics of the past invoked feelings because the ideas and statements were more developed and therefore much more meaningful. There was an element of wisdom and now that's missing.
    Possible album spoiler statement
I hope she takes a long break before she threatens to release her next album (covers excluded) because I think, without one, it's gonna be more of the same
