Lust for Life is a great album with a terrible tracklist order

This interpretation made appreciate the tracklist more. I end up forgetting about 'Lust' and 'Life' concepts entirely while listening through. It's a great concept though and I do almost wish she created two separate albums/EPs for this, as I find some of the transitions between the political and introspective songs jarring

13 Beaches not being used an opener, especially following Honeymoon, will never make sense to me

Blue Banisters made me get into Chemtrails, and I've been listening nonstop. What a fantastic record! The title track is for sure her best one. The photoshoot for the record is probably the prettiest she has done so far and she looked magnificent, and it's maybe the only blonde Lana we'll get on an album cover. I just think they designed the vinyl really poorly, the gatefold being the worst with the cluster of pictures with different dimensions that don't go well with each other. The group pictures are so beautiful and reminded me of Fleetwood Mac so I wanted that to be the cover and gatefold.

That's a pretty limited idea of what flow means. It doesn't mean every sound needs to match the previous song. An album can be all over the place and still have a good flow to it. It's all about twisting the story, vibe, and emotion at the right moment to deliver an experience that resonates in all its ups and downs, which this album very much does.
Dealer comes at literally the perfect time

They trampled her dreams and mocked her, and she broke. and now, her revenge is like leaving the equation, where she takes all that's good with her away, putting all of that love back to herself and what she cares about.

it's an album that's big on self-respect and reclaiming one's self.

she wants to continue sharing thru music, left social media to then having a private account.

it's like she's saying, hey i'm here, but only for those who care enough to actually want to get to know me and see me for me, nothing else.

and then what adds more to the record is that it's just so stable and solid enough to be her last record. as a long time fan, i'm having trouble thinking about what her next step might be for the next record if what i'm theorizing above is true. because this is such a beautiful and just response to the outside, and a more intimate answer for those who've stood/listened to her for the longest. I KNOW this record is going to be remembered as being something pivotal in her career, even past it's beauty.

i've always been the sort of person to sort of peer into someone's perspective first than my own to understand them better first than forming opinions, so connecting and understanding her work past the upfront was and is a real extra genuine pleasure. this album just wraps so much of what her public professional career has been the past years. for those wanting more on lush and intricate production, as enticing as that'd sound, the atmosphere, personally, and from a cultural standpoint/counterpoint perspective, I think blends perfectly for it's own. I read somewhere that reduction is actually an act of mastery, and she does so beautifully w holding and creating the space she does w this album.

ofc I'd love to hear more music and projects from her, but for me, like how she's shifted from NFR to making listeners shift their way of listening to her music from more grandiose, direct fashion, to a more contemplative and immersive delicate place NFR onto COTCC, to now the very much more tenderly-charged, tender BB. I know a lot of people might've not noticed, but this all gives the kind of experience and feelings when getting to start actually knowing someone, to then having them disappear. as a fan, it's truly heartbreaking to know that she's been through so much to have to have raced through all this, but makes me even more happier that she's able to start moving past it.

I hope she keeps sharing the beautiful and unique pockets of universes that she does w her work. a lot seems to be answered already, but maybe some more movie soundtracks, maybe even directing? the poetry's still very much gladly welcome. and of course maybe she'll get to better write the album of her dreams, that'd really be something. maybe more gradually and little nods.

I'm real happy to know that we've been part of and get to experience her career like this firsthand. Universe pulled and is pulling through wow ah

Said this time and time again, but thanks Miss Rey. It's been and is incredible.

I had the exact same thought!!!! While I love Text Book as an opener (the suspenseful pause, the mature spin on the “daddy issues” trope she was criticized for, etc), I love the idea of her opening with WFWF

For one, WFWF is the epitome of BB to me: unfathomably personal, a concise response to the intrusiveness of critics, and a summary of her personal commitments with the record.

I even think it could have made a great closer as a sort of self-revealing finale that ends “in flames.” I also just like the idea of the last word of Blue Banisters being “learn” to transition into the next record lol

i still lowk think Wildflower should have opened BB. it's just so powerful. those opening chords are so badass and , "here's the deal / i know you want to talk ab it" ICONIC

i also think IYLDWM and Dealer should have been sequences, the horn outro leads perfectly into the more alt-rock influences synths and drums on dealer for some reason
i be listening to it like
    WW
    BBS
    Beautiful
    Violets for Roses
    IYLDWM
    Dealer
    Thunder
    Nectar of the Gods
    Living Legend
    Text Book
    Blue Banisters
    Sweet Carolina

Love to see some appreciation for such an amazing album of hers, but I actually really love the concept she executed for the tracklist - I don't think she's ever outright said this was her concept, but from what I can see, she was trying to divide the tracklist into two parts as if it were a double album of two 8-track records: "Lust" & "Life". It's clear that the first 8 tracks are all about the trials and tribulations of love and lust, while the latter 8 tracks are all sociopolitical or general reflections either of her own personal life or the world at large. Sort of like what Marina did with Love + Fear. Really the only change I would make is having the record open with 13 Beaches instead of Love. I think 13 Beaches as track 3 was really odd placement. & if not the opening track, I think 13 Beaches would actually make a great track 8 too as the opening monologue sample and the song overall makes a great little interlude and transition between the two sections of the record x
