Hi, just wanted to notify you that "Jump in the River" in the Masochism section is just a Sinead O'Connor song (a great one!) Those are definitely not Sky's vocals so it couldn't be a cover either

NGL the reception that this and the SOPHIE album are getting honestly just proves how much damage expectations can make. No matter how good a body of work is, if it doesn't match up exactly with what fans are expecting, lashings are to be expected. Which is both understandable and pathetic imo. 
 
You're not always going to get what YOU want and what YOU want is sometimes worse it also doesn't make sense to me for fanbases of such expectation-defying artists, to be so...close-minded in what they want from the artists they adore
 
 

No, exactly. And also all of it is coming from people who are either pissed that NYBD, TMTD, Burn Rubber and etc. didn't make it or from those who are pissed at the fact that this isn't OOEPUI 2.0. It's honestly very f*cking ignorant and unfair. I also feel like some people expected the album to be a nonstop cunt-fest (for some reason?), when in reality it's very much in line with this quote from that The Face interview from 2020: “Whatever is put out into the world now needs to somehow be reactive to [the pandemic] and learn from this situation,” she says, birds chirping in the background. “I feel some kind of shift of consciousness is occurring, whether that’s me coming into this more reflective place or whatever else it is, and I’m curious to know how that might manifest itself musically.”  
 
That said, I don't even remember the last time that I wasn't annoyed at a RYM score so...

I'm not exactly feeling much about the new interview, I think it'll all come out eventually and we'll have new Sky Ferreira music. My real concern is what comes after that. I really think the final obstacle for this album is that her entire brand identity is NOT releasing music now. It's to have released music a decade ago. What will she have left when it's out and reviews come out saying it's not the album of the decade? The year? I'm hoping she proves me wrong, but she has spent the better part of the past 11 years being the ingénue who's been silenced by label executives or whatever. I can see why she'd be scared but it's also time to do it and move on.
Also she needs to release Descending. It'd be a huge misstep to do yet another come back and not release that song of all songs. All My Lovers Die is probably not strong enough, if it's finished and she has two unique verses with intelligible lyrics.

I bought an exclusive-to-radio CD of Downhill Lullaby on Vinted a year or two ago hoping she'd revive her career and that it'd gain value. Starting to think even an ugly NFT would have done the trick better

what makes this funniest to me is that if this album exists and comes out, regardless of how good or bad it is, it'll be career suicide. that she's so elusive (possibly a compulsive liar, possibly a drug addict, possibly in an abusive relationship with her label; you name it, we've seen it) is what little she has to call a career. she's so in over her head you can't help but watch in fascinated horror when something new comes out about how silenced she is
