This was so good. I think this is a short film more than a music video so everything makes since. The random cuts away from the scene bring the whole story together. Really gorgeous 

Wow, im stunned. At first i was confused where the music video was going, then it immediately clicked when she started talking about her vision for the video. Shes portraying all of these women who were let down by society that were expected to be 100% star power all the time. The bts footage puts you in the place of this star whos lived multiple lives and its just such an interesting concept. I think her at the end with the hollywood star represents her being an angel, she has no candy necklace on. Its a lot to digest still but im in love. ALSO OMG THE HAIR THE LOOKS????????? I WAS SCREAMING i hope we get more footage or pictures!

This made me even more excited about what's next for Lana (like she even herself said "where do we go from here")

The music video somehow reflects her entire career. The rich old man represents the music industry, the diamond necklaces her success, which becomes more and more a burden. In the end she exchanges them for simple sugar necklaces and is happiest with them.

the video was amazing, well worth the wait, even BTD lana materializing right before my eyes

it is exactly what I feel... like 'very Lana Del Rey' it gave me BTD, National Anthem, West Coast vibes, old Hollywood, old man, black&white, glamour, blood 
 
Just look at all these woman stories, Dahlia was killed, Marilyn committed suicide, and media STILL 'glamorise' their death...
 
And the last shoot of this mv is probably what would happen to Lana if she was dead - glamorising her death making film about her 'pretty' BTD days even tho media hated her back then.
 

it's perfect. In the video, she dies and gets a  Star on the fucking Hollywood walk of fame. Just like Marilyn and so many others she's channeling here. And for what? Being famous and celebrated? Were those icons happy? No.
the video couldn't have been more subversive and clever.
 

"sitting on the sofa feeling super suicidal" while she's portraying marilyn...

I want her to drop the new coke necklace so bad but at the same time... i fucking despise using LDR village for anything... sketchy at best

i feel like everyone hating on the bts shots are missing the whole point of the video...

Not Taylor fans saying it reminds them Wildest Dreams, when that song borrowed the melody from Without You 

I definitely think she's reflecting how much alike she is to these historically idolized women, or how much they've influenced her in the past and now. She was kind of expecting this life from the beginning of her fame; i.e. "I can be your China doll, you want to see me fall." 

Did anyone else clock the truck at the beginning? Looks like the same make from the BTD and LFL album covers. Her mind! The layers!

To my understanding, the 'Candy Necklaces" are all women in Hollywood, or really just famous women, being objectified and glamourized and overall dehumanized. 
I (think) the first might be Jackie Kennedy? The second woman portrayed is obviously Marilyn Monroe. I (also think) the third is a Jessica Rabbit, or a real life Jessica Rabbit-esque woman. Then its the Black Dahlia, and finally, Lana herself. They are the candy necklaces. The constant behind the scenes shots are meant to humanize these women, showing that they're more than figures or representations in the media, they're real people. 
The blood, to me, signifies the often tragic ends to this style of life, being idolized, etc. It could also just be a reference to the tragic end to Elizabeth Short (Black Dahlia), as her scene was shown right after the blood.

Honestly love it. The behind the scenes aren’t really behind the scenes they were always planned to be part of the music video, ya know? 
 
while I get not liking it (that’s totally valid), if it was just Lana looking pretty as these different women the whole meaning of video would be lost. 

If we only got the actual scenes from the MV what would the story/concept even be? Looking old Hollywood glamour and pretty? 
 
It's clear that she doesn't use MVs as promo to boost songs so I'm glad she can develop interesting concepts while still giving us visuals and looking amazing as always anyway 
 
We'll eventually get standard medium-big budget MVs like the Chemtrails one at some point but it makes so much sense to release this one for Ocean Blvd.

the hair is definitely giving old LDR, it's interesting how it reflects on the media and seems like her message to criticism - this shot makes me think of the acclaim she got during NFR, but the murder being used to symbolize how she "glorifies abuse" with the man in the car who was looking at her throughout the second half of the video, but it could also symbolize how the media murders her for being vulnerable and being herself, which is almost just as abusive of a relationship as her being with a man who beats her and she sings about it
