  2. I agree 100%. As I stated in my post, "I don't think it's Lana's fault that some girls have adopted this attitude (I feel like that comment she made was more casual and perhaps a part of her persona, and let's be real, she hasn't dated a guy older than her for years, so she obviously doesn't even live by that statement anyway)" Although I think parents should be the ones teaching this to their kids, I think it's also important we, as a community, educate them if we see a 12 year-old, for example, saying things like "I want to date an older man!!" I'm also unsure why young kids would even be listening to Lana to start with. Like, melodically and stylistically, most of her music doesn't even appeal to that demographic... plus, the themes in her music would really have no relevance to young kids/they wouldn't be able to comprehend the topics (abusive relationships, love, sex, money, fame, death, loss, suicide, etc.)

    Grimes

So glad I found Grimes recently, her music is amazing and I have had Visions and Art Angels on constant repeat for about a month. It has been soooo long since I have found an artist like this that I love 99% of what they put out! With most other artists, I find they always have a heap of weaker tracks in terms of musicality and level of artisticness. But with Grimes, everything is just pure perfection: the videos are authentic and creative and the music is otherworldly. I haven't really gotten into her other albums yet although I haven't listened to them all the way through, but I hope to soon. My favourite tracks so far are Butterfly, Go, Kill V. Maim, Laughing and Not Being Normal, Genesis, Oblivion, Nightmusic, Symphonia, Pin, Flesh Without Blood and Realiti, although they're all amazing!!
  4. OK, I really don't see how anyone could place West Coast so low on the list, but anyway, I guess everyone is allowed their own opinion For me, West Coast is one of Lana's best songs ever. Those sweeping synthesisers, heavy drums and beautiful tempo change against the coastal atmosphere and Lana's angelic vocals are all so amazing
  5. Firstly, West Coast is a fucking masterpiece. If it's not in your top 10 best songs on Ultraviolence, then where is it? In the bottom 16??? Ok.... Also, I do agree that in a way, it is natural to want to be similar to those you admire and look up to, but there is still a thing called having your OWN personality, mindset and views. It's fine if you are inspired by Lana in terms of fashion, her music, or maybe even some of her own beliefs, therefore you try to replicate some of those aspects, but trying to be exactly like her IS a problem. No one is going to be 100% like anyone else, so trying to live exactly like Lana and act exactly as she does is just ridiculous and completely unrealistic. If someone's goal is to be just like Lana, they're just setting themselves up for failure. They're never going to succeed. I think it's more important to own your own personality and live your own life!! Don't try to be a carbon copy of someone else... The other problem is that young girls are living out Lana's comment regarding her attraction to older men. This is dangerous particularly for underage girls who are potentially fantasising about what could end up being abusive, illegal relationships. I don't think it's Lana's fault that some girls have adopted this attitude (I feel like that comment she made was more casual and perhaps a part of her persona, and let's be real, she hasn't dated a guy older than her for years, so she obviously doesn't even live by that statement anyway), but it is important we don't allow young girls like this to continue making comments like, "I want to date a much older man and be JUST like Lana!!!" We need to educate them, firstly, that they should never enter a relationship with an adult while they are still a child. It's dangerous and illegal, and if they ever end up engaging in intimate relationships, the man will be charged with rape/pedophilia, because they are underage. On another note, I think when Lana was talking about following in the footsteps of your idols by finding out what they did, then doing the same, I think it was more so in relation to achieving the same career as them/getting to a similar point in life as them. I highly doubt she would encourage young girls to be just like her. She's saying, take aspects of the person you admire, and apply some of them to your own life, but don't dispose of your own unique personality just to take on someone else's.

  12. Personally I would have loved a Salvatore video. Just imagine Lana's pursed lips, deliciously licking a sweet ice cream, driving around Little Italy in a black limousine with a hot Italian man by her side. Meh. At least Freak has a very unique sound and I could imagine her doing a lot with it visually, even though it's not a favourite from Honeymoon. I'm just glad she's inspired again, hopefully this isn't the last we see from Lana for like another year though.
  13. I think that despite Lana's enigmatic energy and her inclination to remain secluded and isolated most of her days, she still finds a way to connect deeply with the souls of those who listen to her music. I feel like it is this fact that fuels the obsessive, stalker mentality that some of the fans have developed over time; she's simultaneously mysterious and godly yet a humble human, somehow all at once. I'm sure of most of you would agree that we are all intrigued by the mystique of Lana and want to delve further into her mindset and her world; I think that some people (namely the lunatic Russian girls, the garage camper & the thieves of her car) just take their fixation with Lana's world to the extreme. As much as I love Lana and want to get to know practically everything about her, I could never imagine myself intruding on her private property to do so. When your intense curiosity regarding a celebrity leads you to break into their home, you know there is a problem. These people are alike all of us in the sense that their natural compulsion to be drawn into Lana's world is the same as ours. They definitely stand outside of the majority of Lana's fans, though, because there is something very wrong within their minds. I'm sure all of these people are battling some difficult things, from what I speculate, they have mental illnesses that are controlling their minds to a point of madness. Still, what they have done is almost unforgivable. Although I am sure most of us here on the forum possess an equally obsessive disposition towards Lana, I would like to think we are morally superior and more respectful, as none of us have been breaking into an innocent person's home, or stealing private property. EDIT: At least I HOPE y'all haven't been robbing banks and smashing windows. I suppose you never know for sure who's behind the screen
  14. oMG mess, I read it as she was to be in JAIL for 10 years, not staying away from Lana for 10 years. the 10 album thing was if she was in jail for 10 years, since she tends to release an album a year, there'd probably be around 10 albums out by then. anyway, nevermind, 84 days in jail is quite reasonable. just forget i ever said anything
  15. I was also thinking about this. She also mentioned Bowie in one of her interviews which was released about a month ago. Very strange indeed. If another artist that Lana talks about next year dies months after, I'm going to confirm that Lana is either a psychic or an angel from heaven disguised as a earthly mortal. Probably the latter.
  16. Judging by how often people post comments like "this song is soooo overrated", "this song is talked about way too much" and so on, I think what I am about to say is probably going to be an unpopular opinion, but, honestly, I don't think any of Lana's songs are overrated. Personally, in my opinion, all of Lana's songs that seem to be appreciated the most (songs like Blue Jeans, Summertime Sadness, Born to DIe, Video Games, High By The Beach, Young & Beautiful, etc.) definitely deserve to be so widely liked. The word "overrated" indicates that it is liked or enjoyed too much, and I think that saying such a thing towards such masterpieces is ridiculous. If you said someone like the tasteless Taylor Swift was overrated, I'd agree, because her music isn't art at its finest, like Lana's is, and it's put together for the masses. But I don't understand how people can claim any of Lana's songs are overrated, because as far as I can see, they certainly deserve the praise, love and adulation they receive. If it were a song like Guns and Roses, or Carmen, for example, that was her most popular, then I could understand using the term "overrated", because they're simply some of her weaker pieces. But the fact of the matter is, they aren't her most popular. If anything, I'd say Lana has more underrated songs than overrated.
  17. Omg that is such a harsh punishment though. Oh well, I think he will have learnt his lesson. And when he's out of jail, he'll probably have another 10 Lana albums to listen to lmao so SLAY I guess??
  18. Yes, Granny Swift is 1000x times worse than Lorde in my opinion. In fact, I actually like Lorde and her music is good. I do still love the Lana/Lorde feud jokes though, they're hilarious. But anyway, Granny Swift is horrible in every way. At least Lorde was young when she made those comments about Lana, and she even recently linked to essays that basically confirm she takes back what she said before, so she's forgiven. But Granny Swift will never be forgiven for plagiarising Lana's lyrics, style, imagery, sound and melodies. I mean, it's a perpetual cycle of Granny Swift copying Lana. At least Lorde's music is original and thought-provoking to some extent, unlike Grannæ Swift who literally just copied and pasted everything Lana worked hard for and all of her songs are so redundant and pointless.
  19. This morning I choked of laughter, giggling over this Lorde post and the Lana reference being one of the most liked comments below the picture
  20. Honeymoon is my favourite song from Honeymoon (the album)
  21. I think that Miley definitely has an amazing voice and don't get me wrong, some of her songs are AMAZING. My personal favourites are Adore You, We Can't Stop, Karen Don't Be Sad, Pablo the Blowfish, Rooting For My Baby and Hands of Love (probably a few more as well). BUT, at the same time, she has some truly horrific songs like BB Talk and 4x4, which are extremely offputting for me. I don't hate Miley, I actually like her style and I think she is very talented, but I can't lie and say that all of her songs are good. She tends to fluctuate from perfect to tragic within minutes. Bangerz had some masterpieces on it, but also some horrible songs, in my opinion. I personally think she if she sticks to her more emotional songs in the vein of Karen Don't Be Sad or Pablo the Blowfish, I'd be a huge stan, as they tend to be my favourites. But at the moment, she's just a talented singer that can be a bit hit and miss. Anyway, that's just my opinion. If you love all of Miley's songs, that's great, I'm happy you've found a singer you love, but for me, I struggle to truly follow and be dedicated to an artist that puts out trash like BB Talk. Her impromptu cover of Video Games is good though. I also adored her version of Summertime Sadness.
