I don't know if y'all realize but Adele worked with Emile Haynie for part of her album. In b4 we get Born to Die 2.0 - Adele style At least it won't be trash like Copycat Swift.

I think that both Nicole and Neil are amazing in their own ways and I feel like the work they've produced has fitted with their respective eras; I couldn't have imagined Neil shooting the BTD promo pics, as his work would have been organic for BTD, which had a very avaricious sound and style. I also couldn't have imagined Nicole shooting the UV or HM shoots, as they would have been far too polished for such dark, emotional & natural sounds on UV/HM.

I agree more with the interpretations stating that this song is directed to Lana herself. I highly doubt this song is about Azaelia at all. I feel like Lana is speaking to a past version of herself, back in her wilder days. This would also make sense considering this song comes directly after Freak, where Lana says "looking back, my past, it all seems stranger than a stranger." It's quite possible that perhaps Lana positioned Art Deco after Freak because of this lyric, she is foreshadowing the fact that she is about to look back at her past. Art Deco to me seems like a critique of her own personal life. I don't think that Lana and Azaelia are even that close honestly, especially considering that Lana often considers her relationships to be more than what they really are (there are rumours Lana never even dated Jimmy Gnecco, and she just admired him so much that she wrote a plethora of intimate songs about him) & that Azaelia tweeted quite recently in reply to a fan who was asking whether she is still friends with Lana: "I think we're friends?" (paraphrased). I doubt Lana would write such a personal song about someone she doesn't even know that well. IF this song is indeed about AB, however, then I feel like a lot of the lyrics are still more related to Lana more than anything. What Lana often does is sing songs seemingly about other people, for example, Carmen, Lolita, The Other Woman, among many others, that appear to be about someone other than Lana, but are more recalls of her own life. From a psychological viewpoint, this is a defence mechanism of the ego called projection. She projects her own undesirable stories and personality traits onto other people or characters. In this case, it could be quite likely that she wrote this song about Azaelia, but is applying traits to her that she really struggles to accept about herself. For example, the lyric "they all say hello, you try to ignore them", could be about how Lana detaches herself from others to maintain a satisfactory level of privacy and to profess a certain level of elusiveness. But because Lana doesn't really want to admit that this is a part of her own personality, she projects it onto someone else, in this case, AB (if the song is about her). Regardless of who this person/character is, Lana pretends to direct the song to someone other than herself. "YOU'RE so art. YOU'RE looking to score" etc. It's quite possible she's really talking to herself about her own past & personality.

Cruel World - Honeymoon Ultraviolence - Music To Watch Boys To (TIE) Shades Of Cool - Terrence Loves You Brooklyn Baby - God Knows I Tried West Coast - High By the Beach Sad Girl - Freak Pretty When You Cry - Art Deco Money Power Glory - Religion Fucked My Way Up To The Top - Salvatore Old Money - The Blackest Day Black Beauty - 24 Guns And Roses - Swan Song The Other Woman - Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood UV: 9 HM: 5 Honestly, UV is just the best album in my opinion. The majority of Lana's best songs all came from that era (West Coast is the most intense song in the world, so beautiful but dark at the same time, Brooklyn Baby, Shades of Cool, Ultraviolence, Florida Kilos, PWYC, and so on are all perfect). HM has some intense moments too but for me it just doesn't quite beat the masterpiece that is UV. Also, Honeymoon only seems to cover topics relating to love and fame, whereas I feel like Ultraviolence managed to cover so much more than this, which is another reason why I like it even more.

Kinga Burza on Music To Watch Boys To behind the scenes
delreyfreak replied to Wild One's topic in Latest News
I agree. I love how Lana is always the one who comes up with the idea and then just gets others to work around executing her vision. She's such a true artist. -
Honestly I'm kinda on the fence about any collabs Lana does. I mean, Summer Wine, Iron, Riverside, Prisoner and Ridin' are all ok songs but there's nothing super special about them and I'd much rather just spend time working on her own music. Plus, I don't think many people really understand Lana's vision or her artistry very well and often Lana's style doesn't mash very well amongst the collaborator's. Anyway, I doubt Lana would work this guy anyway. There have been so many people that've wanted to work with her and even when she says "I'd love to!" nothing ever happens, so yeah.

Sorry for reviving this thread, but goodness, some of Lana's unreleased lyrics like this song really do seem fucked up! If she is really referencing a relationship with a priest, oh god, I don't even know what to say. I don't think the lyric is "priest's son" because 1) Seeing as Lana is a Catholic and it's most likely that's the specific Christian denomination she's referring to here, and priests aren't allowed to marry and it's EXTREMELY rare for priests to have had children, so I highly doubt she's mentioning a priest's son. 2) A lot of lyrics are in reference to the expectation of this guy to be holy, and for some reason I just can't see there being much of an expectation on a priest's son to be holy, but rather just the priest having an expectation to be holy. Idk, maybe she's not even singing about a priest here, but either way, the whole idea of this guy is fucked up, and reminds me of Put Me in a Movie a little bit.

I get this song stuck in my head ALL THE TIME, it's one of Lana's catchiest songs SEND ME TO THE SKYYYYY

Music to Watch Boys To: Official Music Video
delreyfreak replied to Subversive's topic in New Releases
The video is absolutely stunning and the concept SLAYS, but yet again, Lana just HAD to go ahead and make some "artistic" decision that actually ends up ruining the concept. and it's not the first time she's done this: Ultraviolence (video) had an amazing concept, even though it's simple, it's really thought-provoking and the fact that she ends the video on the altar by herself in her wedding dress is so amazing, BUT, she decided to ruin her concept by recording it as a LQ video on an iPhone. Tropico was an amazing short film but the resolution of it is just AWFUL. High By The Beach, again, amazing idea and love the message it has regarding the media & the paparazzi, but she decided she wanted someone sloppy to edit it and add random jump cuts and shaky filming. But it was "all for the art" so it's ok. And now MTWBT, another brilliant concept that would have SLAYED us all completely if it weren't for more than half of the video being in black and white, when the natural colours were perfect anyway!! And the problem is that no matter how many mistakes Lana makes in her videos, no matter how controversial she is in her interviews, no matter how little promo she does, no matter how cringey her lyrics are sometimes, I always end up back here. Oh Lana sis you're so elusive and weird but I still luv you and you've got a lifelong grip on me even though I can't stand how many shitty mistakes you make lmao -
LIFE IMITATING ART AKA HAUNTED BY LANA DEL REY
delreyfreak replied to AngelHeadedHipster's topic in Lana Thoughts
I had to go searching through my history to find this thread, because oMG this morning I had to go outside to hang out the washing on the line, and I am listening to Music To Watch Boys To, because it's my favourite song on Honeymoon, and suddenly I hear this massive drilling noise and I turn around and there are two shirtless guys on the roof of the house next door, drilling something onto the roof. and then Daddy #1 bends over and omg I don't even know what to say, it was such an intense moment and it truly was life imitating art as I was literally watching boys while listening to the song. Let's just say it took a lil longer to put the washing out this morning -
