She definitely tries, and I admire that, but her passion doesn't translate well in her recent efforts. Sometimes it feels like she has a statement she wants to make, doesn't entirely know how to go about it, and then tries too hard to piece it all together. Hopefully in whatever project is coming soon, we can get more of the passion and powerful lyricism we love

Oh but you're right, it's very true and as a huge fan of her I've been concerned about it too. 
 
Let's be honest here, it even shows on the way she'd been tweeting recently. The way she speaks too, it's like she doesn't know shit of what she's talking about. 
 
She seems to be very passionate about society and I genuinely think she does care a lot. That being said, it's true she doesn't really know how to express it correctly or at least through songwriting I guess. 
 
She ain't no activist so I won't judge her that hard tho, she's trying her best. She does better when the lyrics are close to home, and that's okay. That's why Sex Yeah will always be 100x times better and more emotionally shocking than Savages or To Be Human.

Again, she's lost a lot of her bite when it comes to making social commentary in her music. Savages was a cute attempt, but everything past Electra Heart has felt really surface level when it comes to making a statement. 

i mean...no? this is a really poor example of her being political. literally "racism exists " is all she said lmfao

Emotional Machine is a really great song, but it's just another reminder that L+F as a whole could have been much better. I get that she was trying to go for deep, introspective tracks with minimalist production, but the only tracks I feel like that really nailed that concept well are End of the Earth and Emotional Machine.

Savages does have some "though" around it like, it is basic but it's well built in metaphor and so on.
To Be Human is... throwing a lot of things at a wall and trying to stick. It doesn't have any "depth" because there's no main subject. Like... yes the song is mean to be general but... it's just TOO general.
 
And then there's stuff like "There were riots in America just when things were getting better" and it feels like... Getting better for who exactly? 
 
For sure her heart is packed with good intentions but it just feels a bit... shallow and trying hard to be something. 
 
 
To Be Human middle8 tho... she made some points.

Savages is literally perfect no FROOT slander

I feel like Marina's lost her edge a bit when it comes to writing songs geared more towards political/social commentary.
Sex Yeah was a great representation of what she's capable of, but songs like Savages and To Be Human feel a bit watered down, and surface level. I feel like once she gave up that angrier edge that Electra Heart offered, she lost some of that bite with it. She wants to be deep and make a statement, but it feels like she's trying too hard to be nice about it. She wants to make a statement without stepping on anyone's toes.

this has the potential to be an amazing record: satire, 50s/60s sonics, sassy lyrics. i just hope she doesn’t switch up and take the LFL route (as much as i still adore that album, i don’t want a 2.0). and by that, i mean, i could see it being another record with “political” undertones and/or topics.

This is exactly how it feels, it's like "aww shit here we go again" and just accept that we'll be here frequently again

This era has started way sooner that i anticipated i really didn't think we would hear anything about this album until at least the end of the year, especially during this quarantine cus i thought she's gonna be promoting her poetry first. So excited!

chemtrails over the country club... i feel like she has a lot to say on this album! i'd love to see her explore a sound similar to born to die with the heavy storminess of ultraviolence. like off to the races with a cruel world/mpg twist.

Do you guys remember the very first promotional picture we got for the NFR era, with Lana wearing jeans and snickers and sitting in the sand, and with electric poles in the back? That’s how I imagine the album cover.

If you click on TBA by her name on Sept 5th it just links to the story a few days ago. Their source is Lana not the record company.

Consequence of Sound listed this album for the 5th September as well. Does it mean that it really will come out on a Saturday? Just curious bc usually albums got released on a Friday... Lana said 5th but  I thought she actually meant 4th September but no matter what it's only 4 months and I'm excited !!!
