black lagoon is definitely one of those anime’s where the dub is better. especially given how multicultural it is, so it feels more authentic for the characters in that aspect. some of my fav scenes that live rent free in my head for example that just don’t hit the same as the sub skdksks:

well in my case from 2012 when i found marina and then got into lana through her part of it certainly was the fact that they each had their own unique sound from other artists at the time.. in contrast i guess lanas was way more theatrical and baroque while marinas was more synthish and electronic and what have you (along with piano ballads) in sound and this was during lana and marinas heavily and prime old americana inspired eras which is something i also deeply resonated with since my mom was obsessed with that aesthetic and literally had our kitchen made into a 50s diner theme at my childhood home (which is more of a personal thing more than anything skskss). my nana is also similar as well.. so aesthetically i found something that i really connected to and admired. they’re also both immigrants so i think being the first born in the states the american dream and idealization kind of thing was just kind of like…. part of me i think the most important element is how personally connected they are to their own lyrics too. but can also play them up into some sort of extremes or fantasy as well. also i was just incredibly mentally ill without any outlet since like talking about my experiences was always something i felt i had to avoid SKDKDKD but uh. it was really nice to have these artists to finally connect to with who wrote about alcohol/ drug addiction, different forms of abuse, difficult relationships, and parental/family issues and just reflections of themselves and how they’d want to present themselves to others. cause that’s like all i knew at the time. and they somehow made it comforting and i finally has something to connect to at that age since i couldn’t really get that with anyone else LOL also lana and marina are both Leo moons… as am i… our moons are in Leo indeed… so i think it was just destined to be from the moment the stars formed. born to be a lana del rey fan. you know what i havent listened to buy the stars in a hot minute… so that’s what im going to do now

honestly i feel like speculation isnt that bad so long as we respect that it’s only speculation based off songs and things she’s said and what have you. (there’s a couple threads here that speculate on different aspects of Lana’s life for example). is it really any of our business at the end of the day? not really. no. but i don’t think it’s that bad. and brings some interesting thought into how she creates her music through personal experience and/or fantasy. however whats really bothersome is people convincing themselves and presenting it as fact (and then spreading that to other people who also believe it ). similar to how people who are like “AKA WAS A VERY VERY VERY DARK TIME FOR LANA WHERE SHE HAD AN E.D, ADDICTION AND WAS IN ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIPS!!! SHE HATES THE ALBUM AND FEELS UNCOMFORTABLE WITH YOU LISTENING TO IT!!!”

humbert is the narrator of lolita and the perspective the book is taken from some of his crimes include: rape and molestation of a young girl murder (which might be one of the few somewhat decent deeds he does considering it was another pedophile and child pornographer… i guess) and just…generally being a pedophile, manipulative, narcissistic, obsessive, and jealous (to a point where he is basically doesn’t let this child have her own life)

if that is the case then they definitely lack taste! but also i know there’s a very stupid amount of people who have convinced themselves through some parasocial relationship where they think they know want lana wants and has gone through personally and get to have a say in spreading the word that people shouldn’t listen to the album cause it was the worst time of lanas life where she was (apparently): addicted to *insert drug*, had an ED and this and that and definitely would not want you listening to the album because of that. - which i understand being speculative based off lyrics and/or interviews but like…. they state it as pure fact and then use that to be lanas knight behind a screen and talk down to others who enjoy the album * which i assume could turn some newer fans away from that material
